Don't miss the opportunities that the Paralympics bring.

As the Paralympics approach, now is the perfect time to amplify your brandโ€™s voice on social media. You've seen how last week's Olympics brought out the best in everyone so why not capitalise on that from the 28th.

But how can you stand out amidst all the noise?

Here are some tips that I will be implementing in my own social media strategy.

๐ŸŽฏ Create Paralympics-themed content that resonates with your audience's passion. Whether itโ€™s behind-the-scenes footage, athlete stories, or interactive quizzes, tie your content to the excitement of the Games.

๐ŸŒŸ Join the conversations: Engage with trending discussions. Share your insights, and interact with fans and influencers and if you feel you have little to add ask questions and add your praise.

By doing so, you can position your brand as an authority, or as one not arrogant enough to think they know it all, and this will help you to become part of the larger community.

I would love to know what your favourite app is that helps you with your business. I have a few, but right now Iโ€™m loving an app called Brain Toss.

Itโ€™s amazing for capturing any ideas I might have, whether Iโ€™m at my desk, on my bike, playing padel, or with a client. Itโ€™s super simple โ€“ you can leave a voice note, send a text, or take a picture, hit a button, and it arrives directly in your inbox. Bingo ๐Ÿช„

Then when I next sit opposite my computer, Iโ€™m reminded of the idea โ€“ which, letโ€™s face it, is far more reliable than my memory, which seems to be failing lately. ๐Ÿ˜…

At this time of year, there is much talk about swimwear - Tankini's or Swimsuits or Bikinis or Trunks or Budgie Smugglers ๐Ÿ˜‚. What will you wear on your summer holiday?

The style doesn't matter but the colour could save your life!

Involving influencer activity within your social media strategy will increase your engagement rate by 16 times.

Yes, that could be someone with 100โ€™s of 1000โ€™s of followers or it could be someone with much fewer followers but who is better connected.

These are your influencers:

A member of your swim club who has enjoyed your facilities.

Someone you have taught to play Padel who has gone on to play in the local league.

A friend who took your advice and achieved a PB.

So look around you and think who could spread the word about you AND also think how you could spread the word about those around you.

I recently did some Facebook and Instagram training with a new business that is about to launch based on the concept of assisted stretching. Part of my reserach was to look at content ideas for them.

Here are some examples of successful health and wellness posts, drawing from engaging content ideas that have generated significant following and engagement:

Big update from Meta! (That's Facebook, Instagram & Threads!)

Meta's rolling out new subscription levels for businesses after trying them out in Australia, New Zealand, and Canada. These plans are packed with features to help businesses make the most of Meta's platforms.

What's new?

๐Ÿ”น Standard Plan ($14.99/month): Get a verification badge, better search rankings, protection against impersonators, customer support, and more for one Facebook or Instagram account.

๐Ÿ”น Plus Plan ($44.99/month): Enjoy extras like linking in Reels and more ways to customise your profile.

Sounds good, right?

Well, it might be for big businesses, but smaller ones might feel the pinch. These plans could put a dent in small business budgets, especially those used to free tools for getting noticed and engaging customers.

My biggest concern is that the different price tiers could widen the gap between big companies that can afford more and small businesses that can't.

As businesses rethink their social media strategies and budgets, opinions are split on whether these changes are good or bad.

For business owners in the sports industry, creating engaging content on LinkedIn is about more than just sellingโ€”it's about building relationships and establishing credibility.

Constantly posting sales-oriented content can actually backfire.

Much like in a personal conversation with someone in a bar or on the side of a cricket pitch, where relentless bragging can become tedious, a continuous sales pitch on social media can turn off your audience.

Instead of drawing people in, it often drives them away because it lacks the elements of engagement and value that people seek. No one likes being talked at, they like to be talked to.

When every post centres around a sales pitch, it can make your brand seem one-dimensional, self centred and out of touch with your ideal client's interests.

Research shows that content that focuses solely on selling tends to perform less well as it may fail to properly address customer pain points effectively or engage them on a meaningful level.

So if you are not going to sell what should you write about?

To keep your LinkedIn content varied and engaging, think about incorporating these four types of posts:

1๏ธโƒฃ Educational Content: Share insights about the latest trends in sports, training tips, race results or innovations in sports technology.

2๏ธโƒฃ Community Highlights: Post about events, team achievements, or spotlight key players and their stories.

3๏ธโƒฃ Behind-the-Scenes Looks: Offer a glimpse into the day-to-day operations of your business, showcasing how your products are made or what a typical day at your office looks like. If you are an event organiser share how you put together a typical event.

How to grow your account without sacrificing your sanity!

So you have a presence on social media.

You understand that it's a tool to help grow your business.

You've read posts from people, like me, explaining that success is about increasing the reach of your posts (ie getting them in front of more people) and the amount of engagement they receive (ie comments and saves) in order to start conversations.

Simple?

Maybe not!

Because all you hear are stories of accounts growing by X thousands of followers over night, posts going viral or 1000's of impressions from others.

Before your anxiety levels start to rise because you can't understand why you can't produce similar results, stop and BREATHE!

Here's why your posts may not be doing as well as others.

Different subject matter receives different results.

For example one of my Equestrian client accounts on Instagram has grown phenomenally over the last month.

A great achievement BUT one major contributing factor is the content focus. Horses! You see the horsey world loves to engage and share their own posts whilst tagging in others. Which means much of the work is done for you.

Also part of the strategy was to partner with a better known brand thus automatically exposing it's own content to many more eyes.

So next time you start to stress about how your account compares to others,
โ€ข think about the focus of your content
โ€ข consider the quality of the engagement you need
โ€ข review your own analytics and set realistic targets

Yes the numbers matter and will help you refine your content but big numbers don't automatically mean big sales.

And if all else fails post a picture of a horse!

"Social Media doesn't work."

"Social media isn't social as no one ever comments on my posts"

"I waste so much time on social media it just isn't worth it"

All comments clients have said before they start working with me.

It's true social media is all the above AND MORE if you don't have the right approach.

โŒ It isn't an easy to use free tool that will get you in front of 1000's of people or organisations by posting a pretty picture and a few words. - sorry to burst that bubble.

โŒ It isn't an extra bit of tech that you head to when sales are down or you've suddenly got a new product or event to promote.

โŒ It isn't something you can outsource to someone's daughter or nephew because they are young and their generation "gets it".

But with the right strategy and a plan social media (LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram - you name it) can be a vital sales tool for your business and can really work for you.

How? I hear you cry!

It's simple. By having the right strategy in place - an actual plan.

Having a strategy means:

โœ… You know who your audience is and how to proactively find them.

โœ… You have an engagement strategy and comment thoughtfully on their post and comments.

โœ… You have identified the topics you want to talk about and why your audience will want to hear about it.

โœ… You turn up online consistently and thoughtfully.

โœ… You see your platform of choice as a sales tool and once the connection is made and trust established to carry on the conversations offline.

15 years ago, when I first started using Instagram and Linkedin for my business it was easy - post something and reap the rewards. Now it's much harder BUT not impossible and with some help and a bit of inspiration, it doesn't have to be viewed as the necessary evil.

Here's why trying to publish perfect posts isn't working for you.

Do you run a perfect race every time you compete?

Probably not!

It takes time and it's about building confidence and expertise and understanding what works and what doesn't. It's not about being perfect the first time.

Don't let the search for perfectionism hold you back when it comes to posting to your social media channels.

In the world of content creation, "done is better than perfect" holds so much truth for us mere mortals.

โ€ข It's easy to get caught up in the pursuit of perfection, endlessly tweaking and editing your posts. But here's the thing: perfection is an illusion, and waiting for it only delays progress.

โ€ข Every piece of content you publish is an opportunity to connect, inspire, or educate someone somewhere. Whether it's a training plan as a blog post, a piece of nutritional advice via video, or a social media update, getting it out there is what matters most. Don't waste time making it perfect because regardless of the imperfections your content has the power to make a difference.

โ€ข Remember, time spent procrastinating is time wasted. Instead of waiting for the perfect moment or the perfect idea, seize the opportunity to share your voice and your message with the world. Think of it as a journey of continuous improvement, like your race training. Remember that each time you work on something it will bring you one step closer to your goals.

So, let go of perfectionism and embrace progress. Take that leap of faith, hit publish, and watch as your ideas reach others. Because in the end, done is better than perfect.

2. Where they liked to hang out.
3. What their pain points were.
4. What content topics she would talk about.
5. How she would proactively connect with them rather than wait for them to find her.
