Paris 2024: What can we expect from the opening ceremony? The world is getting ready for the 2024 Olympics, with the opening ceremony kicking things off this Friday in Paris.
After our success last year, we're so proud to have been shortlisted as finalists at this year's Get ukactive Awards in the following categories:

Swim England's Swimming as Medicine series shows some fantastic examples of how the healthcare and leisure sectors can join forces to improve the health and wellbeing of Communities. 🌟
It's no wonder that swimming and other aquatic activities pop up in conversations that healthcare professionals have with people who are managing long-term health conditions. Where nurses like Michelle have the power and influence to help patients with their lifestyle changes, we have places to help them get to it!
Going for a swim or doing an aqua class are great ways to improve physical activity, aid recovery, boost mobility, and prevent illnesses - as David, Glynis, and Dawn say so in the video below. They are proof of how the benefits of swimming can be more powerful for the wellbeing of Communities than other healthcare interventions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1EMavWtLGk

Now that we've finally got over the football blues, we wanted to say how proud we are of our Three Lions team!
To make it to our second consecutive final is a phenomenal achievement. We’ve loved cheering them on throughout the tournament in Germany (especially that goal from Palmer!) and they’ve created an amazing legacy that will see more trailblazers follow in their footsteps, both on and off the pitch.
It all starts somewhere, and it could be one of our centres. 🧡

It's , an important time to raise awareness about the condition and what it's like to live with it.
This year, Diabetes Week focuses on the value of having health checks. Perhaps you're not sure what checks you should be getting, or you feel fine without having them, but regular diabetes health checks are vital for ensuring people living with the condition stay healthy. Some checks can even be carried out at home.
Diabetes affects a large proportion of our Communities and we're committed to working with the wider health sector to help combat the condition, particularly through our involvement in a diabetes and peripheral neuropathy study with Sheffield Teaching Hospital. It's crucial that more people living with diabetes are able to access required support, such as physical activity, to manage their condition.

Posture is such an important part of our health and wellbeing, yet it's still overlooked by many people. While there is no "perfect" posture, improving it begins with being aware of your everyday habits that may be affecting how you sit, stand, and move. 🏃♀️
We've put together some guidance on how to improve your posture in our latest Pointer blog here: https://brnw.ch/21wKiOF
It was a day to remember at Tooting Bec Lido yesterday!
Our "Big Splash" event with Wandsworth Council marked the reopening of the much-loved south London swimming spot after it closed for refurbishments to enhance the infrastructure of the lido, all the while protecting its precious heritage.
As a cherished place for the Community and one of the UK's biggest open-air freshwater pools, the reopening certainly made a splash. We were lucky enough to be joined by five-time Paralympic gold medallist, Ellie Simmonds, as well as Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan!
We're so proud of everybody involved who has ensured that Tooting Bec Lido remains a place where Communities can take a dip, meet like-minded people, and make memories for years to come.
You can read more about the reopening here: https://lnkd.in/dmHcMuzS
We were delighted to support our partners, the Royal National Institute of Blindness (RNIB), at their See Differently Awards last week!
The awards recognised individuals, teams, and companies for their outstanding achievements in breaking down barriers for people living with sight loss. There were so many inspiring stories shared throughout the night and everyone should be proud of the difference they're making to the lives of blind and partially sighted people and their wellbeing.
Our partnership with the charity aims to do exactly this, creating thriving places where Communities feel welcome, safe, and included is at the heart of what we do. That's why throughout our centres, we host RNIB-led sessions which explore practical ways to make our facilities more accessible to blind or partially sighted people.
Over 2 million people in the UK are currently living with sight loss, and we believe this shouldn't be a barrier to them staying active, finding a love for a new sport, or living healthily.
To the gym-goers or breath-slowers, the goal setters and go-getters. Whoever you are and no matter the path you’re on, we’re with you every step of the way. 💪

We enjoyed welcoming Shadow Sports Minister & MP for Barnsley East, Stephanie Peacock, to one of our centres in High Green, Sheffield earlier this month.
Alongside staff at Thorncliffe Health and Leisure Centre, there were some inspiring conversations had around the work that we facilitate both within the centre and for the wider community to improve access to sport and leisure. Stephanie noted that it was great to learn about the award-winning Big Sister project, our joint project with Women in Sport and Hey Girls, which aims to get more teenage girls involved in sport, exercise and physical activity.
We look forward to continuing our work with our partners and authorities to provide the vital support that Communities need to thrive and live happy, healthy, active lifestyles. It's a huge part of who we are and what we do!

Mental Health Awareness Week gives an opportunity for the whole of the UK to come together and raise greater awareness around mental health. This year's theme is 'Movement: Moving more for our mental health' and aims to encourage people to find moments in their day to move more.
There's a strong link between taking care of our physical health and protecting our mental health. Whether you're going for a brisk walk, doing some chair exercises, or dancing in the kitchen - it all counts!
We know that despite movement being so important for our mental health, many people find it tough to stay active. 1 in 4 people will experience a mental health issue of some kind each year in England, and this is a number we want to see improve both within our communities and for whoever is in need.
There are many mental benefits to be gained from incorporating more movement within our daily routines, some of which we have pointed out here: https://brnw.ch/21wJNjR
