Zen Goshin Ryu Martial Arts

Although I'm away this week all the classes will be open as usual. They will be run by some of our amazing instructors so please make sure you get down and take part. Am sure they will take it easy on you!

We have an amazing year ahead of us. Lots of seminars that we will be taking part in and new classes opening to offer spaces to the waiting list that we have.

One of the first seminars we will be attending, is taking place in Loughborough in February. The seminar is to help raise much needed funds for a local homeless charity. Instructors will be travelling from across the county and Europe to share their knowledge so it should be an amazing event.

The seminar is open to all students, regardless of club, age or ability so if you are free please take the time to come down and support it.

What a spectacular way to end the year. Following their 3 1/2 hours grading on Sunday, I'd like to congratulate Harry, Eddie, Flora, Morag and Isla for passing their 1st Degree Black Belts and to Kathryn for passing her 2nd Degree Black Belt.

They all showed an amazing level of maturity during their gradings. The skill, techniques and effort that they demonstrated was outstanding and they should be extremely proud of their achievement.

They are a credit to themselves, to the club and to martial arts. Well done to you all.

I'd also like to thank Sensei Keith, Sensei Ben and Sensei Ian for helping out and adjudicating the gradings. All the instructors are an active part of the gradings as its the best way of seeing if the techniques work. It's also great fun being punched, kicked and thrown around for over 3 hours.

Finally thank you to the cadet/junior students that managed to get down this week to take part in our special Christmas sessions. Good to see so many amazing jumpers being worn.

Looking forward to the club going from strength to strength next year.

Who will be attempting their 1st Degree Black Belt and to

These gradings will be the accumulation of 7 years training for the Black Belts and 10 years for Kathryn.
As with all our Black Belt gradings, the students will not be told if they have passed until the following week. This gives time to fully assess their performance and enhances one of the many virtues of doing Martial Arts, patience!

Another cracking group of gradings last night. Congratulations to Adam, Dan, Carissma, Lauren and Charlie for passing their gradings and taking another next step along their martial arts journey.

Always good to see the lower grades putting in so much effort.

Congratulations to Alex and Ajay for passing your Brown Belt 2nd Kyu and to Antonio, Jo and Kyle for passing your Green Belt 5th Kyu gradings last night. Great effort by you all.

Excellent session last night with some of our junior students. Working on basics and self defence. Is wonderful to see how enthusiastic they are towards their training.

Fantastic day out in Hull attending Chris Edson Martial Arts multi-style seminar. Is an honour to be invited to these events and to train with some amazing students and instructors. Always great to catch up with my brothers in arms Rick Bache, Chris Edson and Craig Peacock. See you all again soon.

Congratulations to Hermione Oxman for her promotion to assistant instructor. As part of her instructors training, Hermione (2nd on the left) has been helping with the cadet/junior classes over the summer as well as assisting with student gradings. Shes a really asset to the club and fully deserves her promotion. Well done Hermione.

Great night of training with 11 cadets and 22 junior/adults turning up. Fantastic effort as always. Remember next weeks training will be on the Wednesday night

As usual, I will trying to keep the club open as much as possible over the summer holidays. As I know lots of people will be away next week, I will be cancelling both nights training (19th/20th July).
For the rest of the summer I will be alternating between the Wednesday and Thursday nights. The dates I'm current looking to run them on are:-
Wednesday 26th July (class 1 5.15 - 6.15 class 2 6.30 - 8.00)
Thursday 3rd August (class 1 5.15 - 6.15 class 2 6.45 - 8.15)

I may open up both days if we start to get really busy.

It's been quite an amazing weekend of gradings. Congratulations to all those that have passed and taken another step along their martial arts journey. Each session lasted nearly 2 1/2 hours and the effort, determination and skill that was demonstrated was of the highest level.

Some outstanding moments, especially from William who gained a perfect 10 from all 3 instructors for his kata. This is only the 2nd 10 that's been given in the past year and as far as I can remember, is the first 10 given for a kata. Well done William.

Congratulations to Zach who also passed his cadet blue belt last week.

Special thanks to Sensei Lauren Walker, Sensei Ian Graham and Sensei Keith Turner for giving up part of their weekends to adjudicate the gradings with me. Thanks also to Flora who helped with one of the grading sessions as she works towards her assistant instructors badge.

Congratulations to Harry, Eddie, Morag, Isla, Flora and Kevin for passing their 1st Kyu Brown/Black belts today. This is the final step before they can be considered for their Black Belts. For 5 of the students their journey started over 7 years ago. Its amazing to see have much they have developed over the years.

For Kevin the journey started over 25 years ago as one of the clubs original students. After a short 20+ year break due to moving away from the area (and gaining a Black Belt in another system), Its great to have him back training and grading with us again.

What an amazing day in Hull taking part in the first multi-style Martial Arts seminar of the year. You couldn't wish to spend a day with a nastier group of nice people. Thank you to Chris Edson for organising the seminar, to all the instructors for giving up their time to share their knowledge and to all the dedicated martial artists that took part.
