I've started a refurbishment project earlier in the year to do in my spare time.
It's come a long way from where we started. now with the bathroom being tiled in the next week.
One thing I have had to do is get the entire attic and landing skimmed as well as a few other walls and ceilings. It makes such a huge difference when you have someone that cares about their job. Absolutely brilliant, from getting a very bad attic ceiling and walls to a perfect finish. Clean, tidy, wipes and hovers everything up and respectful. I look forward to using them again! Some of my fantastic customers asked me to help them make use of the spare space they had in their entrance way. Using bespoke fitted units from The Lubina Kitchen Company Ltd along With their designs and ideas, I managed to fit some lovely units creating the perfect boot and coat storage. This also has a solid oak seat which has a lid so you're able to put blankets in.

The last few months I've been lucky to have done two kitchens and one built in wardrobe and a closet, here's one of the kitchens I have done.

The interesting part of this kitchen was the island on wheels, it was definitely the first time I was asked to do this. This was a handless kitchen working of a aluminum rail system with led lights underneath the worktop with a wireless control.

It was great to do and I'll post other projects soon.

As another year comes to a close, I just wanted to wish everyone a happy new year and all the best for 2024.

With another busy year with lots happening throughout work and family, I've tried to narrow down some pictures from all the projects I've done this year. I'll hopefully post some more recent projects that I've done over the next few months.

So that's a wrap and Claydons is now open for business.

This was a fantastic project to be part of working together with other trades we pulled it out of the bag.

On this project I had to restore the original Victorian shop front which consisted of replacing all the cills frame work and glass, the old doors were rescued with all new ironmongery.

We managed to save about 80% of the original timber but some parts needed to be replaced. These were all machined in the joiners shop to match exactly the same as the original. As well as all of this we supplied and fitted new double doors, new window and many other areas of the project to push it on.

With autumn now here it's great to reflect on a great year with lots of projects completed and lots of happy customers. With so many exciting new ones to start and complete.

The project I am currently on is a very historical one. I've been lucky enough to be asked to restore one of the oldest shop fronts in Colchester. With years and years of neglect the new owner of claydons wanting me to strip back all the years of paint and to uncover the original features this used to have.

With currently restoring the old part I have already installed a new window and a pair of huge double doors in the new part. These were all sprayed and glazed as a finished project.

Though there is lots of work to still do to restore the old part back to its former glory, it's great to work for a customer that understands what's involved in bringing this back from nearly beginning to far gone.

He's a couple of pictures but there will be many more to be taken over the next few weeks.

A little project I did at the start of summer was this pedestrian gate. This was to match the existing main gate which was made by another company, though it needed to match but also be scaled back so it still looks in keeping.

Being 70mm thick and solid iroko it was heavy and solid. The posts also being 145mm thick, they are heavy enough on their own. With marine grade external coded locks This was then finished in satin black barn paint by .

First of the projects I had started early in the year then came back to late spring was this very tired softwood greenhouse for a lovely customer.

This was estimated to have been originally made about 50/60 years ago. Even though it was to the side of the grounds, having this area done really set the rest of the grounds off, what a difference it made!

After going through with the customer their thoughts and ideas, we decided to go for solid Iroko hardwood. To keep in with the rest of the property we went for a c**k bead moulding on most parts of the greenhouse, the finish spray coat of white was then done in the workshop. With all ironmongery for the door and windows from From The Anvil really finished it off. All the glass was 4mm thick and toughened for safety.

It's been a busy few months since the beginning of spring we have done so many brilliant projects from greenhouses and garden rooms to converting dining rooms into gyms.

Over the next few weeks I'll go into detail on each project and how we go the finish on them all.

It's been a very busy spring/ summer so far with so many exciting projects happening and so many happy customers. We have done projects from bespoke greenhouses and garden rooms to converting dinning rooms into gyms bespoke hardwood gates to cladding. Some big jobs and some smaller ones

Over the next few weeks I'll go into more detail on each project and what we did on each one.

Another little project me and done was to remove an old carpet to repair some old floor boards ready to lay this lovely engineered oak flooring. Because the original skirting wasn't a standard skirting we had to them specially manufactured from the joiners shop with their own set of moulded cutters.

Super lucky to be helping G. J. Wheeler Ceramic Tiling & Flooring on this for a few days he's got a huge project ahead of him but the results are going to be awesome!

Absolute favourite of a job of mine, it was so nice to work so closely with the customers to get what they want.

Also an amazing product to use highly recommend Millboard for all their products, great customer service and always to hand for advice!

Super excited about starting this project for another customer in Dedham.

The existing greenhouse was 70 years old and somehow it was still standing.

This is just the start of this project, taking the old greenhouse down and getting the brick work ready. The new one is being made at the moment out of Iroko timber, it will then be sprayed before being delivered on site to be fitted, this will be done in May.

A project that I had completed at the beginning of the year. On the outside of this annex, on the end of a garage was an extremely rotten and dangerous staircase, so bad that I couldn't walk up it.
The customer asked to replace the staircase and handrail, the customers had a budget which we were able to work with.

A project that I completed last year was part of a huge property refurbishment, stretching across 2021 and 2022. Here the customer had an old rotten and slippery timber decking area which didn't make the most out the space that was available. We went through some different designs on how we could bring the decking area out to make it functional as well as making it part of the garden.

With the fantastic product from Millboard we were able to create this area where they where able to have an entire band playing on it. As it was a composite decking, it meant you wouldn't get the normal problems of a timber decking having to sand it back and re-treat it every year, as well as it being dangerous and slippery in the winter. In my opinion composite decking boards is the perfect product for long life hassle free decking.

Working alongside the electrician we were able to fit the strip lighting around the steps whilst having them synchronized with the feature window, this could also be controlled from the customers phone. We also made a small walk way and sitting area in front of the outdoor sauna.

With so many different projects coming up, its going to be another super busy year and I cant wait to show you them all.

Just before Christmas I was able to carry on working on this lovely project. I've been able to do this in stages over the last couple of years. After the hot tub had been placed in position, we could then start to design the roof, which was probably the hardest shape to do.

Underneath was finished in cedar tongue and groove boarding from Thorogood Timber Limited This will then be finished in the Osmo UK UV Protection Oil Extra for a long lasting protection.

This was then all finished with a fibre glass roof. Sadly weather had turned which made this very difficult to finish.

This will definitely be a job to remember for so many reasons. Following a call for help from a customer who had some terrible builders destroy their dreams, me and G. J. Wheeler Ceramic Tiling & Flooring came in to help get this project as far as possible on the budget that was left. After having to deal with some absolute horrendous work done by previous trades we turned this around to be back to how it should be.

From joist work that was barely safe to walk on to steels fitted so badly that we weren't sure what was really holding everything together, we had had issues with levels being out by 40mm from one end to another and just general bad workmanship. We re fitted all the exterior ply and adding timbers where there was meant to be. We took all the joist work out to be re fitted flat and level we finally finished up to cladding. Sadly there wasn't enough in the budget to finish any further. It just goes to show that you get what you pay for, start from the ground right and the rest will follow.

they make for some interesting jobs. With a massive thanks to MJF Joinery for producing some fanatic joinery for me. I've been lucky enough to have a to fit lovely soils iroko front door, fitted with ironmongery From The Anvil which is always a joy to use.

Also was asked from a lovely customer to make a circular bench for there oak tree also out of iroko. This has been finished in Osmo UK I've protection again thanks to the joiners shop for this.

It's been a really busy few weeks with catching up doing lots of little jobs for loads of customers. From front doors to shelf's to cupboard doors and circular benches. Sometimes small job are just as enjoyable with catching up with old customers to meeting new ones

Another great job to help out on, it was another lovely job completed. 👌

Nearly a year long project, which has been one of my favourites, came to an end in August. Had some great people working on it all together as a great team. I'll definitely miss the customers as well as the work. With a brilliant eye for interior design by the customers, we managed to make their dreams come true.

This didn't start as a complete refurbishment of the property but over the first few months it turned out to be that way. From the top, every room and bathroom was completely stripped and fully refurbished. From structural alterations to walk-in showers, huge decking areas with synchronized led lights, bespoke wardrobes and bespoke study units and even gold leaf ceilings.
