Camulodunum Speakers Club
We are an organisation which is about building the self confidence and skills of being a proficient public speaker
This non profit, group has met in Colchester for over 30 years. Many people have benefitted from the speaking programme followed, which is designed by Toastmasters International. Anybody who feels unsure about their ability to make a speech or just speak to a group of people should attend a couple of meetings to see how it is possible to gain that essential grain of confidence that will allow anybody to stand up and say what they have to say.
We have a fabulously friendly Toastmasters group, and each meeting provides a new learning experience. We meet every 2nd and 4th Monday of the month, and always welcome guests to come along and see this for themselves. You can even hide at the back, like some members are in this photo...
We would never stage a photo, honest! But this gives a glimpse of an evening at Toastmasters, and how we all develop our public speaking skills in a supportive environment. We always welcome guests to come along and experience this for themselves, with two free sessions before deciding if you wish to join the club.
Another great evening last night! In the first half we got the opportunity to audio describe a film as it was playing hidden to the audience who then had to guess what the film was from our commentary. Later we heard prepared speeches on 'The Cashless Society', 'Who is responsible for Climate Change' and the 'White House Farm Murders'. What varied subjects! Congratulations to Chris Roberts for best Table Topic, Chris Sexton for best Speech and David Baker for best Evaluation!
too much time on my hands..
well done everyone who took part last night

On Tuesday 20th February the monthly dining meeting of the club took place at The Shepherd at Langham where members heard two speeches, one related to gun control in the USA was delivered by Gabriele whilst David presented a speech concerned with homelessness and how quickly it can happen anybody. A set of topics, prepared by Chris, challenged members as they produced two minute speeches on the subjects offered.
Evaluations of the speeches by Robert and Joan were valued by the speakers and discussions held over the meal, which was served at ten past eight, completed the evening. Richard was the Toastmaster of the evening and time was kept by Bob. All present enjoyed the evening. The next ‘dining meeting’ will be held on Tuesday 20th March at the same venue. Join us!
