Those I love 21/05/2024

Paul Wadey, May 2024. I I am incensed, humourless, seeking refuge, gathering with others to rechargein a kaleidoscope of colours and sensations, finding solace in red brick sprawland grey-black concrete expanses. I see myself in them, and they in me,denizens adrift, some wearing weary symbolsyearning for redemptive warmth, perhaps the taste of life bursting with spice,...

Decoupled 10/01/2024

by Paul Wadey, 10.01.2024 Decoupled in a public sphere Where truth—now a nomad—dwelt, Scales weigh unevenly, Truth became untrustworthy, displaced by Dunning-Kruger’s map, And or Bonhoeffer’s guide to idiocy. That where fleeting glimpses of valid coherence twinkle, Darting, speedy, caught for a moment, Thus we're left to communicate, detached, unanchored, Neither cohesion nor congruence to light our way. Adrift on shifting sands, once firm earth diminished,...

The Old Bells 02/01/2024

by Paul Wadey 02.01.2024 Whispers of time, soft and deep, ache,In relentless pain, unyielding, our children break,Each moment calls for change, so rare,New bells might ring clear, in crisp calm air. Memories hold, old tunes that pine,Unyielding to the new, in time's own line,Echoes break, past stories, lore,New bells might sound change, forevermore. Not just enough, but striving for best,...

G.K.’s Fence 12/12/2023

Chesterton's Fence is a principle that stresses the importance of understanding the rationale behind existing traditions or norms before attempting to change or abolish them. The idea was first put forth by G.K. Chesterton, a renowned British writer and philosopher, in his 1929 book, 'The Thing.' The principle argues that we should not blindly dismantle or alter a longstanding practice simply because we don't understand its purpose or value....

Genoveva 07/12/2023

by Paul Wadey, 07.12.2023 You were Genoveva, the artisan of shadow-laden reveries, and you embroidered your cryptic arras in the chiaroscuro of your cloistered domain. Beneath the polarity of nocturne and lunar radiance, your narrative unfurled—a tessellation of luminescence and obscurity. Your digits, akin to crepuscular arachnid limbs, pirouetted across the loom, each gesture a masked murmur of your concealed chronicle....

Twilight 04/12/2023

by Paul Wadey, 04.12.23 In a realm where twilight spiders a web of shadows, an abode stands, kissed by an ethereal sigh of dusk. Evening descends, not with a sombre touch, but as a painter, stroking the world's canvas with great daubs of introspective hues, reflecting a tumult sea of thoughts churning within its walls. Here financial tempests brew, sculpting landscapes of choice and consequence....

Soft Ruby Promises (For Sarah) 27/11/2023

--- by Paul Wadey, 24.10.2023 In your gaze, a trove unveiled— Depths uncharted, yet absolving, While warm summer showers paint my view anew. Still this path, Be clear, my love, Reveal simplicity’s truth. I see gifts within your smile, Like dawn's sunbeams gently waking. Dance the merciful hue of a song once lost, Now found— Misgiving vanished. Amidst the joy your presence brings,...

For the smile of a child 27/11/2023

--- by Paul Wadey, 24.08.2006 In pursuit of a child's radiant beam, With artful brush, I'd recast the sphere: In vibrant tints of a dreamer's dream, Transforming dread to whimsy sheer. For the smile of a child, that treasure so wild. With hands, scarred yet firm and tender, I'd forge a haven from ruins of yore, Shifting stones of past surrender, …...

---Paul Wadey, 22.10.1984 In realms where thought's lone profit doth seem slight, A jest, perhaps, yet holds potential vast; If darkened minds would wed their brooding plight To philosophies where compassion's cast. What faith remains, unsullied by the taint Of cynic's sneer or sceptic’s cold disdain? A shadowed knight in adamant restraint Might shield us all, and not in vain, remain....

Goodbye 27/11/2023

(To my sister, Ayisha) ---by Paul Wadey, 27.11.2023 In whispered tones, may one impart the sound Of hearts o'erfilled, by fate's own hand so bound? Doomed to rupture, lone, sans witnesses ear, In future's veiled embrace, unknown, unclear. Oh, for the power in mere words to seize This fleeting life's mortality, and freeze. Would that one might, or even strive to gain…...

For dark matter 26/11/2023

--- In this vast expanse, a cloven globe revealed, bare to the core of truth, our essence peeled, where whispers of lone thoughts in murmurs yield, Reflecting the heart's beat, foreign yet appealed. In this quietude, my spirit, in cosmic enclave apart, yearns, not for mere touch, but for the art of affinity's heart. Beneath the solemn dance of distant astral light,...

Melanie Klein: A Radical Contribution to Psychoanalytic Practice and Dialectic Theory 13/11/2023

Abstract This paper explores Melanie Klein's life and work, interpreting her radical psychoanalytic position theory—paranoid-schizoid and depressive (Ps-D)—as a circular progression of consciousness, experience, and realisation. Analysing Klein's biography and clinical observations, the prerequisite of ambivalence is emphasised in the development of the ‘Ps’ and ‘D’ positions to precisely echo the development of contradiction as the precondition of the thesis and antithesis in Hegel’s dialectic....

Meta-Sonnet of Recognition and Strife 06/11/2023

Towards Ethical Intuitionism and the Moral Unconscious in Depth-based Practice 03/11/2023

Integrating intuitionism and the moral unconscious, this paper proposes an innovative ethical framework to address depth psychology's dilemmas. Challenging normative ethics' limits, it draws on psychoanalytic theory and moral psychology to advance nuanced discernment. Emphasising conceptual skills and unconscious wisdom, it advocates experiential-evidence-based praxis through critical reflection....

Snare 28/10/2023

Remembering 7 October 2023 I In Genesis, Abraham's faith burned as a molten star— Three pyres in Baal’s twilight, beacons in obsidian dark. From Ur's ziggurats to Canaan's dunes, destiny not far— Three cosmic arcs, his covenant leaves its ineffable mark. Shackled in Egypt's grasp, heaven's marvels they beheld— Liberty bought with plagues, and Sinai's thunderous roars. To Canaan's soil, their promised Eden, destiny compelled—...

The Myth of Confidence: Examining the Forgotten Virtue of Courage through Psychoanalytic Lenses 22/10/2023

"The enduring allure of Hamlet's personal travails—his waning confidence over courage and his emotionality overpowering his rationality—have captured the hearts and minds of audiences for generations. However, to truly appreciate the relationship between confidence and courage in the broadest sense, one might question whether, in recent years, confidence has taken a more prominent position, overshadowing the importance of courage."...

Mending 17/10/2023

by Paul Wadey, 17 October 2023 In the mind's hidden chamber, love's relic resides, A porcelain heart, fractured beneath sable tides. Deceive not yourself; every cardiac form bears a flaw, Weathered by love, irreversible as natural law. What, you ask, is the purpose of this agony? A terminus, or the advent of an alternate symphony? I contend, dear interlocutor, a truth we cannot elude:...

‘Approach-Method-Technique’: An Introduction to Milan, Post-Milan and Social Constructionism 13/10/2023

1. Curiosity & Co-Construction § Introduction: A model for identifying differences in Approach Method and Technique Let’s begin by turning first to Burnham’s (1992) paper, in particular, where he outlined a coherent model for differentiating between types of systemic activity and how those activities might be viewed as relating when working within a systemic practice framework. We will then see whether and how Burnham’s (1992) AMT model might also be useful to understand both the movement of approaches, methods and techniques from Milan (e.g....

Beyond Normative Ethics: Toward an Ethical Intuitionism for Psychoanalysis 12/10/2023

My main object in this paper ('Beyond Normative Ethics: Toward an Ethical Intuitionism for Psychoanalysis') is to examine the insufficiency of normative ethics for psychoanalysis. In advocating for an ethical intuitionist framework, I demonstrate my support for a psychoanalytic ethical process that examines both conscious and unconscious elements. My path leads through important ethical concepts like normative ethics, metaethics, Love, the work of Love, integrating ethical perspectives and engaging sincerely with feminist and postcolonial critiques. In comparing relational and rationalist ethical psychoanalytic texts like Drozek's and Lacan's, my conclusions compel a call toward a metamorphosis in the ethical process of psychoanalysis and its resituating as a work of Love. I would welcome your comments and thoughts. Feel free to share and like.

The Return of the Repressed: Pseudonymisation in the Digital Age 26/09/2023

How is our online world reshaping the unconscious? This essay insightfully dissects how perceived anonymity online enables the return of repressed impulses, for better or worse. The Harvest of Neglect: Stitching Insecurity and Division in Mary Shelley’s Gothic Critique of Human Nature and Society 08/09/2023

'Yet was there not some innocence left in him—some childlike craving for the love every being needs, the familial harbourage that anchors one in belonging? In his naivety he had approached his maker, expecting guidance, nurturance. But on meeting only horror and hate, the soft tendrils of secure attachment withered, unwatered. Now he harboured only the bitterness of the outcast, the fiendish designs of the spurned.'...

Towards a Mindful Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy 01/09/2023

Psychoanalysis reveals the depths of the unconscious forces shaping personality, while mindfulness illuminates the nature of conscious experience. Integrating these perspectives provides a more holistic understanding of the factors generating suffering and pathways for healing."...

Colouring Connections: A Crayon Analogy for Crittenden’s Dynamic-Maturational Model 21/08/2023

Patricia Crittenden's Dynamic-Maturational Model (DMM) of attachment is a pivotal contribution in this domain, which posits that individuals craft attachment strategies as adaptive reactions to their caregiving environments. These strategies, anchored in early life experiences, remain flexible, adapting to present contexts and historical traumas. This paper introduces the crayon analogy to elucidate the manifold nature of attachment strategies. Mirroring a child's choice of crayons for an artwork, individuals use diverse attachment strategies, symbolised by specific crayon hues, to navigate their relational challenges....

Beyond Technique: Cecchin’s Call for Perpetual Critical Reinvention in Family Therapy 20/08/2023

Cecchin compellingly argues for reconceptualising clinical neutrality as an active curiosity perpetually generating alternative systemic hypotheses. However, some therapists might critique this stance as impractical incapacitating interventions. Similarly, while an aesthetic sensitivity to patterns intuitively enriches understanding, hypersensitivity imperils romanticising dysfunction emphasising coherence over beneficial change....

Questioning the Question: A Therapist’s Guide to the Delicate Art of Interventive Interviewing 14/08/2023

In psychotherapy the questions we ask signally shape the therapeutic process. Karl Tomm's inspiring paper ‘Interventive Interviewing: Intending to Ask Lineal, Circular, Strategic or Reflexive Questions?’ provides critical insights into the impactfulness of different questioning techniques. This essay will focus specifically on the role of questioning in relational-based psychotherapy. I want to examine three questions arising from Tomm's analysis: What is the therapist's intention and motivation with each question? How might it influence the client's understanding and the therapeutic dialogue? And does the question respect the client's boundaries and readiness?...

The Work of Therapy in the Age of Artificial Reproduction 01/08/2023

Benjamin argues aura persists where transmissible experience still resists mechanisation. hence the obligation of facing fragile personhood endures beyond digitizing therapy’s surface features. While technology cannot replace moral presence, it may widen therapeutic outreach if guided by ethical care rather than vulgar profit. Benjamin exposes grave loss but also emancipatory openings when historic auras fade. By heeding his insights, we may move more wisely forward as we face integrating the human and automated....
