Coleford Welcomes Walkers
Coleford, the walking hub for the Forest of Dean, is an accredited Walkers are Welcome Town.
Chair of Coleford Welcomes Walkers Matt Beard is by the Clocktower this morning with information on joining CWW as a Volunteer for ongoing projects such as walking our Public Rights of Way and reporting issues, as well as training in upkeep of Rights of Way and future projects. If you can’t make it this morning he can be emailed: [email protected]
Somebody must know something about this mindless vandalism we discovered when we arrived today at the Coleford to Milkwall Cycle Path to continue planting. This is being reported to the Police and the FoDDC, but if you have any information please do get in touch.
CALLING FOR VOLUNTEERS!
Can you help us with planting very young shrubs beside the Coleford to Milkwall Path to complete our works making this area safer for users.
Sunday 14th April 1pm. Meet up will be near the gates close to Coleford
What3words Sugar.Flock.Swerving
Volunteers should be over 16 and able to bring along gloves and a spade.
If you can help please email Matt Beard our new Chair on [email protected]
We would be very grateful for your support enhancing our community.
Our ‘neighbours’ in Chepstow have some great walks left over this weekend…
How lovely to be recognised for the work we do, thank you to all our volunteers whether you volunteer as a member of our new Steering Group or volunteer to help with our projects, we too say Thank you!
Paula Massey representing Coleford Welcomes Walkers
We need your help to keep this group active!
Are you passionate about our town?
Do you enjoy being outside?
Do you want to make a difference, aiding people along the way to enjoy the great outdoors whilst aiding our local businesses?
If you have answered yes to at least one then come along to our Extraordinary meeting on 7th February @ Coleford Community Fire Station (Cinder Hill), for a 6:30pm start. Please park in the main car park and walk up to the fire station.
We are looking for local residents and business owners to join our Steering Group, where we are looking to appoint a new Chair and Treasure following the retirement from the group of the people that held those positions. If these positions are not filled then the group can no longer function.
As you will have seen from our social media posts and articles in the papers we are a forward thinking group that is run by local people and which is not affiliated or influenced by any authority, we get work done!
We work closely with other groups to not only promote our town as being welcoming to walkers but to encourage people to get outside and walk. It has been proven that walking is great for your health on many levels, whether you are a hiker or can walk a short distance. It all makes a difference.
By promoting Coleford as a walking destination we aid local businesses, 26 of whom in-turn support our work.
You don't need to be a whizz on any particular subject, just have an enthusiasm to volunteer your time to this group to make a difference and aid our town.
Visit our website: www.colefordwelcomeswalkers.co.uk to find out more!
We look forward to seeing you!

Walkers are Welcome has a membership of over 100 towns....
A good day to venture out and explore the Public Rights of Way in and around Coleford.
Check out the new kissing gates, improved access, and better signage.
Working with the PRoW Officer we have many more improvements coming this year.

Did you know spending just 10 minutes in nature can boost your mood and reduce stress levels? 😌
Today marks Blue Monday – the third Monday of January which is often regarded as the most depressing day of the year.
Beat the blues in the comfort of the woods on your doorstep 🌳
Share with us your photos out and about today in the forest 👇
Stay safe in Forest!
Our winter Forest operations are underway and you may have noticed our signage sounds serious 😲 because it is!
If you see safety and operational signage in the woods, please take a moment to read and adhere to its instruction. Even if you cannot see or hear anyone working:
🌳 Stay safe, read signage
🌲 Follow diversions and/or banks person instruction
🌳 Be prepared to stop for timber lorries
🌲 Do not move or meddle with signage
🌳 Stay away from timber stacks
The nation's forests are working woodlands and supply the largest amount of sustainably-sourced timber in England.
Back on November 27th 2023, our Chair Debbie popped into Dean Radio for a chat with Jules and Briar about our work.
The whole show is a blast but if you are short on time our segment started 18 minutes into the show.
