Introducing Old Bob's Trail ๐ค
Green trail news ๐ฃ
The build of our brand new green trail is progressing really well. The bulk of the work is nearly complete, but there are a few finishing touches to be added. Our aim is to get the trail open by the end of September โ weโll share the opening date soon.
In the meantime, weโre pleased to announce the trail name, drum roll ๐ฅ๐ฅ โฆโฆ. Introducing Old Bobโs Trail.
โWho on earth is Old Bob?โ
At the Forest of Dean Cycle Centre, we are really proud of our industrial heritage. In its heyday, Cannop Colliery was one of the most successful coal mines in the Forest of Dean. Many of our trail names have nods to the coal mining industry, and some of the old buildings are still in use.
Old Bobโs was a pumping engine for Cannop Colliery, located just over the road from the Cycle Centre. We donโt know why it was called Old Bobโs โ one suggestion is the bobbing action of the pump moving up and down. The site can be seen on maps dated right back to 1880, but it became derelict and has since been removed.
Naming the trail after Old Bob's is one small thing we can do to make sure this piece of history is not forgotten.
Our famous table sale is being held over the FOD Fest weekend up at the Forest of Dean Cycle Centre next to the DTV container on Sep 21st - 22nd.

Letโs help the trails stay awesome together! ๐ช๐ณโจ
๐ Huge shoutout to all the incredible volunteers who came out today for our litter pick adventure! ๐ We had some pint-sized helpers (we love to see them!) the youngest was just 2 years old, and let's just say our oldest volunteer is a mystery we won't reveal! ๐คซ
We learned that litter loves to play hide and seekโif you have to hide it, you know itโs not meant to be dropped! ๐ฎ While we were busy cleaning up, we enjoyed watching the trains on GBU.
Some of the most interesting finds of the day included a tin of spam (who knew?), a whole inner tube, and some hefty pieces of metal! ๐ฅด A big thank you to everyone who stopped to chat and showed appreciation for our work. A clean forest and happy riders make it all worthwhile! ๐ณ๐ดโโ๏ธ
Remember, if you can carry it up the hill, you can carry it down to a bin! Let's keep our trails beautiful! Happy riding, everyone! ๐โจ

โ Freeminers Trail update โ
We are really excited to be working with the Dean Trail Volunteers on a major project to revamp the Freeminers (red) trail.
This is a long-term project which will take a while to complete. In the meantime if youโre riding the trail you will see that we have various diversions in place. Please make sure you follow these.
The trail will be changing and we are working with DTV on creating a new route. Some bits are going to be removed, and some have already gone. We will be focusing on removing old sections which are outdated and hard to maintain, and instead we will be making major improvements to existing sections of trail, as well as building some brand new bits.
Our aim is to create a route which is fun and exciting to ride, for those looking for the challenge of a red-graded trail.
We will share more information on our plans over the coming weeks, so watch this space.
If you'd like to get involved with DTV, you can help out with all areas of their work, whether its digging, table sales or litter picking. You can even volunteer from home! Find out more ๐ http://dtv.eventbrite.com

Woohoo, a new green trail ๐๐
โ New trail update โ
Last week we shared news of a brand new trail being built. There is still a lot of work to be done but so much progress is being made!
Weโre excited to share with you that this will be a green-graded trail.
It has been designed to be a stepping stone between the Colliers Trail and the blue-graded Verderers trail, and will be fully accessible for those riding adaptive bikes. It will also be suitable for towing bike trailers, or children riding balance bikes.
We think it will be a great addition to our trail network and will fill a gap that is currently missing. As well as being accessible, we hope that the trail will be exciting for riders of any level, on any kind of bike.
Weโll continue sharing updates as the build progresses over the summer.
Woohoo - we are excited for this one! ๐
We're going on a Slab Hunt!
We're going to find some good ones.
What a wet windy day.
Weโre in waterproofs.
Oh-oh! MUD!
Thick, oozy mud.
We can't go over it.
We can't go under it.
Oh, no!
WE'VE GOT TO GO THROUGH IT!
Squelch squerch!
A big dig today with the Pedalabikeaway team! Thanks to their hard work, alongside our amazing dig leads, great progress has been made in the main skills area.
The jump line will be closed until Friday when Forestry England check it over.
Let us know what you think when you ride it this weekend ๐
