Pride month begins adding some brightness to the glorious summer and celebrating diversity and all those who have fought for liberation and inclusion.The Stonewall riots in New York began in June 1969. After many police raids, interrogation and brutality at the Stonewall Inn, activists decided enough was enough and began protests that lasted over 6 days. Up until 1966 it was illegal to serve alcohol to Gay people. New York law also stated that a person could not wear more than 3 items of clothing from a different gender making crossdressing illegal. Although times have changed many still face discrimination today. Unity is key to change

Who remembers this amazing upcycled piece from 2021? 😍
You can find .knitwear on Instagram. Using a plain white jumper found in a British Red Cross shop, secondhand yarn and dye which they hand painted, they completely transformed this piece!

The British Red Cross has always relied on volunteers, this month we honour all those volunteers that have devoted their time helping others especially those in times of war. ‘VADs’ (voluntary aided detachments), were nurses, stretcher bearers and ambulance drivers. Some risked their lives helping injured soldiers at the front. Others saved lives at home, nursing sick and wounded servicemen in UK hospitals. Red Cross nurses bandaged wounds, changed dressings, and washed bed sheets. They filled hot water bottles, provided clean pyjamas and offered nourishing meals.

We are holding a tea event to fundraise for the British Red Cross at the Zion church Cottingham 10-3pm on the 9th May. There will be tea, coffee and home bakes to buy and also a raffle. Come on down for treats and a chat Please share.
