I think sometimes you can?t beat a reflection-based photograph. When I saw this building reflected on another building on a warm sunny day (which was almost exclusively glass), it made me think of psychedelia and psychedelic art. The reflection was calling me to take a photograph of it.

Stanwick Lakes - Northamptonshire

An amazing night at Stanwick Lakes, and my first time capturing aurora images.

Taken at around 1am, the aurora had started to fade so I went for a longer exposure leaving the sky with smoothed-out colours.

I went for a gentle edit, ensuring my foreground stayed true to life and just visible, adding some clarity and texture in the sky to bring out the aurora and stars.

This photo was taken at Coomb Abbey Park where a pair of Swan and Cygnet were paddling around in the pond. This pic signifies to me the value of family where the pair of Swans who pairs for life and bring up their young ones against all the adversaries.

Burton Dasset Country Park

Burton Dasset is a great location for sunrises and sunsets with its hills sitting above all of the local landscape, so a favourite place for early morning and evening walks with my dog and camera. It was actually due to rain on the day I took the image, but it didn't come so we hopped into the car and took a chance. The sky was total cloud when I arrived but as soon as the sun broke beneath them they all just lit up, along with light hitting across the various hills and bumps in the foreground.

Taken on a Fujifilm XT-30, ISO 400, F10 and, 1/125 sec and 18mm. The image is a 3 shot exposure blend which felt necessary given the high contrast in the scene, I wanted all of the detail from the shadows and highlights.

This frame was captured in Glasgow, Scotland, drawing attention to the bustling surroundings of a busy street crossing. The decision to take this shot was inspired by my visual instincts, guided by the unique characteristics of the ILFORD HP5 film stock. This particular film emphasizes shadows, highlights, and contrast, resulting in a striking black-and-white color fidelity with minimal motion blur.
Street photography, particularly in alleys, has always been my passion. I am drawn to scenes that showcase heightened contrast, intricate shadows, and distinct highlights. These elements contribute to the overall beauty of the image, allowing for the fine details to be distinguished

An unedited photo of traffic was taken during my first outing with my camera. I was testing out various shutter speeds to learn how to take good long exposure photographs. Despite not having an ND filter, this one turned out well. Testing out different shutter speeds helped me to realise why ND filters are essential for most long exposure photos. I had to resize the image to 2000 ? 1333 as the original size (8256 ? 5504) was too large to upload.

Snowdon

Whilst climbing Snowdon on Christmas day I kept noticing the bright yellow rust over the railway tracks which I thought looked great within its surrounding landscape. Further up I spotted the track in a place where it made a great leading line into the surrounding mountains so climbed up to take a shot.

My composition was to get low and include as much track into the foreground as I could and try to get focus as much through the whole image as possible.

Editing was as simple as a slight crop and some colour grading.

Location: St.Pauls - London

An early start on a work trip to London, I couldn't resist getting a couple of hours shooting in. I had previously shot in this location, but from a more traditional angle from the corner of the stairs with the Cathedral as the focus point. This time I wanted to use the handrails as my focal point and use the cathedral as a background feature.
After trying a few different angles I chose this one as it had a rail post in just the right place for some foreground interest, the rails at a good angle and length, and the spire of the cathedral almost coming out of the end of the handrails. I wanted the closest areas slightly out of focus for effect and was really happy with how it came out. I exposure bracketed to ensure I got as much detail into the shadows as possible without blowing the highlights out and merged the images in Lightroom.

The edit was straightforward, it was always planned to be B+W, so I added contrast, dropped the shadows boosted the highlights across the tops of the railings to really give that shiny chrome some impact, and darkened the stairs to lead the eye up the image.

Shot on a Fujifilm X-T30, at 27mm, ISO 400, and a shutter speed of 1/500 f/5.6
