Our first-year Degree Apprenticeship students, who are currently working for leading global automotive manufacturer, Stellantis, visited MIRA Technology Park.

As part of the visit, they had a tour of the proving ground which involved experiencing how vehicles are tested for performance before sale. This was carried out by being driven at speed on a variety of extreme road surfaces that the vehicles are likely to encounter like ice, snow, potholes, cobbles and flooding.

Students also got a chance to interact with Kevin Vincent, Director of the Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles and the National Transport Design Centre, about the most innovative technologies that are driving the industry to change.

One of our tutors who helped organise the visit, Kathryn Evatt, said: "As the students are working in the automotive industry, I wanted them to gain a broader understanding of work involved in bringing a car to market and the overall industry.

"Their session with Kevin Vincent helped them understand the rapid technological advances and structural changes affecting this sector."
