As we wrap up our 4th year at Atelier 21, we couldn't be prouder of our Year 6 pupils who are graduating to secondary school. It's been a year filled with growth, achievements, and unforgettable memories!
During our graduation ceremony our thoughtful and poetic Year 6 teacher, Michelle, wrote individual poems about each child for the pupils to guess who they were. In our close knit community this did not prove to be too difficult! Happy tears were shed as the children collected their graduation certificates and said their farewells to their Year 6 teacher ready for the 'Turning of the Tassel' graduation tradition.
Our pupils, ranging from 4 to 16 years old, have truly shone, demonstrating resilience, creativity, and a passion for learning that inspires us every day. From exciting projects to community initiatives, they've embodied the spirit of Atelier 21, showing us what it means to be pioneers of the future.
We’re also celebrating the tremendous growth of our school. Our pupil numbers have soared, welcoming more forward thinking minds into our community. This year marks a significant milestone with the opening of a new Atelier 21 in Poland, spreading our innovative approach to education across the world. We also have a state school taking up our model in London and many other educators visiting our school for training and inspiration. We are are thrilled to be recognised for our commitment to re-defining education and nurturing the next generation of thinkers and doers. On our way to 'changing a million children's lives to start.'
As we look back on this amazing year, we are filled with gratitude for our incredible pupils. Here's to a well-deserved summer break and the exciting adventures that await in the new academic year.

Couldn’t agree with this more ….
A warm welcome to our new Education Secretary, Bridget Phillipson. Here’s hoping that she can do a far better job than the previous incompetent rabble who have taken childhood and teaching into a cul-de-sac…
So, what should her priorities be if the opportunity for reform is going to be truly seized? Well, for starters:
Put Ofsted in its current form in to the shredder and end the nonsense of league tables, combative inspections, and political dogma of academisation that runs deeply within its corridors. Replace it with a system that seeks to support and shape the development of teaching and learning, and works in a multi-agency way to tackle the social inequalities that impact on so many of our children.
Bin the phonics screening check in year 1 and re-instate a revised free version of Letters and Sounds to end the unbridled capitalisation and manipulation of early reading by Big Corps Phonics.
Transform teacher training standards so that programmes include content focused on psychology, philosophy, social theory, art history, cinematography and POC history, so that teachers are liberated from delivery mode and can return to creative teaching and have a greater political understanding of their children’s experiences. Food banks exist for a reason…
Put the National Curriculum into a kitchen blender and rid childhood of the Michael Gove Experience that has brought so much suffering to children, and replace it with a curriculum deeply embedded in play, creativity, the joy of story and maths, and movement. It is not difficult to give children a childhood that they deserve…
Burn SATs to the ground and end the culture of education done to children. An inherently meaningless test of children that is rooted in Victorian values. We need to hold schools to account, but not to see if they are still stuck in 1895.
What we need is imagination.
What we need is someone who understands how it feels to be five years old.
We need more play, not less.
We need more joy, not drudgery.

If you are a teacher who might be interested in joining a collaborative group of teachers across the world remotely to embark on an adventure to bring enquiry led learning to your school from KS1, KS2, or EYFS, come and join our term long action research course to give you the tools to bring awe and wonder back into the curriculum!
You will have all you need to bring a cross curricula, hands on, emergent project that blends literacy, maths, science, the arts, technology and outdoor learning to your primary classroom in September. The regular shared reflection meetings held online will be guided by the A21 experts and myself, who will also be doing the project in our classrooms alongside you and sharing our observations and interpretations and emergent planning every two weeks across the term with you to give you guiderails to think in a new way about the meaningful learning that is also rigorous and evidence based.

High Praise from Poland: Our Pioneering Curriculum Model Receives Fantastic Feedback!
We’re excited to share the outstanding feedback we received after our founder, Hayley Peacock, delivered our unique curriculum model to the new Atelier 21 school in Warsaw, Poland last week. Here’s what they had to say:
Hayley was praised for her great flexibility, as she adapted the meeting agenda to suit the needs of the Polish team. She also provided valuable assistance in organising an effective daily schedule, ensuring a smooth implementation.
The Polish educators appreciated the wealth of theoretical and practical information shared, highlighting the high value of the specific examples and images included. They were particularly impressed with the openness to discuss the challenges and learning experiences from Atelier 21, creating a genuine and transparent dialogue.
Additionally, an excellent atmosphere was created where everyone felt comfortable sharing their thoughts and questions. ✨ Stepping Up and Moving Forward: Transition Day and The Rite Journey at Atelier 21! ✨
Today marked a special day at Atelier 21 as our students joyfully moved up to their new classes for September! It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm as they met their new teachers, explored new classrooms and started making new friends.
A highlight of the day was our Year 9 students explaining 'The Rite Journey' program to the Year 8s and taking part in activities together. This transformative program, which Atelier 21 proudly embraced as one of its first UK schools, guides pupils through the journey of adolescence into young adulthood. Our Year 9s shared their experiences and the impactful lessons they've learned, including self-discovery, growth and teamwork.
Since September, Year 9 has participated in ceremonies like the "Calling" and "Letting Go," which foster gratitude and the shedding of childish behaviours. These moments, filled with reflection and symbolic acts, have been powerful steps on their path to adulthood.

What an incredible Reception Experience Open Morning we had yesterday! Parents had the unique opportunity to step inside our pioneering future school and engage in our innovative rewilding and entrepreneurial activities. From making soaps for the upcoming school business fair to exploring the great outdoors with our exciting Wild Friday activities, it was a day full of discovery and creativity. 💡🌿
Our pupils did a fantastic job presenting during the open day talk, impressing everyone with their off-the-cuff speeches. 🎤👏

Debunking Myths Around Self-Directed Learning
