To kick off the next edition of our series, we’d like to introduce you to Sophie, one of our Volunteers.
🩶 Sophie, Volunteer.
📆 Joined in April 2023.
We asked Sophie why they joined FreeShop Crawley.
"I am local and wanted to get stuck in helping in the community as I feel we need to deal with issues like poverty that are occurring on our own doorstep first and foremost".
We also asked what their favourite thing about working here is.
"Freeshop takes a holistic approach to supporting both those who use the shop and the local community. Focusing on helping people to be self-sufficient and move on rather than providing a single service and leaving people to pick up the loose ends themselves. It also feels like a family, and I must admit I do love the craziness if jacket potatoes at winter warmers".
🩶 Thank you, Sophie, for everything you do for FreeShop Crawley!

Becky Pearce volunteered during Christmas 2023 and decided to run the L O N D O N. M A R A T H O N to raise funds for us ! Becky raised over £500 for FreeShop Crawley read her story below 👇… we are so inspired and grateful !
The London Marathon was a bucket list event for me, as after 10 years of entering the ballot, I have finally been allocated a place. I completed Brighton Marathon over 7 years ago and always wanted to take part in London, so applied each year and never expected to get a place. When I got a place I did not know whether to laugh or cry!
The event itself was incredible, with so much support along the route, I can say it was one of the best days of my life. I had friends and family dotted around the route and managed to spot most of them as I ran around, even though the crowd noise at times was deafening. I completed the run in 4 hours 36 mins, which I was very happy with.
One of the charities I wanted to raise money for was Freeshop Crawley. I had a chance to help out at their Christmas event and I was really blown away by their ethos of making everyone feel special, providing people with help with pride and dignity.
I really wanted to help as knew as a small local charity, fundraising means a great deal and makes a big difference. I ended up raising over £575 for Freeshop Crawley , which I was very happy with.
