Woodland Skills Centre offer a wide range of woodland courses to suit all ages, abilities and interests.

Woodland Skills Centre offer a wide range of traditional craft courses to suit all ages, abilities and interests. We also offer Holiday Club, Birthday Parties, Family Days and Weeks in the Woods. Another sector is Social Forestry/Prescribing that involves working with people of all ages with special needs. We also offer Mindfulness in Nature sessions as part of our health and wellbeing programme.

There are so many good tools with broken handles. You don’t have to throw them away. The course today at Woodland Skills Centre was led by tool restoration expert Mal Edwards. Here are some of the tools that had new handles made and fitted.

Willow Animal Sculptures Course - Saturday 8th – Sunday 9th June 2024

Two Day Course – Cost Β£170 Deposit Β£85

Artist Caroline Gregson will guide you through the steps required to make your own animal sculpture.

We will be using prepared non-living willow and learning techniques which can be adapted to produce a wide range of animal forms.

Past workshops have produced pigs, dogs, cats, birds, squirrels etc. Animals which have a very distinctive outline tend to work the best.
You are welcome to discuss ideas for your sculpture with

Caroline prior to the workshop.

No previous experience is required.

Make a Bushcraft Knife (June 2024) | Woodland Skills Centre 17/05/2024

Make a BushCraft Knife Course - Saturday 1st – Sunday 2nd June 2024

Two Day Course – Cost Β£230 Deposit Β£115

You will learn how to forge, heat treat, grind, sharpen a piece of tool steel and fit a handle to make a knife suitable for bushcraft.

Your expert bladesmith tutor is Gwyl Roche .

This course will run at least twice this year.

Make a Shave Horse (June 2024) | Woodland Skills Centre 17/05/2024

Make a Shave Horse Course - Saturday 1st of June.

One Day Course – Cost Β£115 Deposit Β£60

A shave-horse is a simple but effective traditional tool to hold a piece of green wood while it is shaped with a draw-knife.

You will be provided with all the materials you need and you will make your own β€œmodern” pattern shave-horse to take home, based on the design of Mike Abbott.

There should be time to learn how to cleave green wood and shape it with a draw-knife on your new shave-horse.

We offer Mindfulness in the Woods sessions where our qualified and experienced resident Mindfulness tutor guides participants through our tranquil woods to re-connect with nature and themselves and learn how to find inner calm.
