There are so many good tools with broken handles. You don’t have to throw them away. The course today at Woodland Skills Centre was led by tool restoration expert Mal Edwards. Here are some of the tools that had new handles made and fitted.

Our beautiful Woodlands are open to the public 24 hours a day 365 days of the year, well behaved dogs are welcome too, we have many people and horse riders using our Woods daily 🐾🌳😀

We are at RHS Tatton Flower Show this week demonstrating crafts and running workshops for children. If you are at the show, why not pop over to say hello and pick up a course leaflet.

A wonderful find in one of our ponds today, Dragonfly Nymphs, not one but two! 😀, one had already shed the other one was still inside, how lovely to see 😀.

Bushcraft, food cooked over the fire, free camping, games for children, activities for the whole family - sounds like wonderful weekend in the woods

What a wonderful day we had here today at woodland skills centre, creating a wooden spoon from a log of silver birch , everyone had a great time and many lessons were learnt! The results were amazing. Who knew an axe could produce such refinery 😀

When you forget about the potatoes you left to chit in the seed cupboard

So many different types of Bee’s absolutely loving our flowers, even sharing flowers 😀. The Spider and Caterpillar were however at odds! Nature in its full glory.

After all the rain we’ve had, I saw this Bee and watched them dry themselves and fly off, nature is wonderful

So lovely to see everything bursting back into life 🌳🫛🌱

Willow Animal Sculptures Course - Saturday 8th – Sunday 9th June 2024

Two Day Course – Cost £170 Deposit £85

Artist Caroline Gregson will guide you through the steps required to make your own animal sculpture.

We will be using prepared non-living willow and learning techniques which can be adapted to produce a wide range of animal forms.

Past workshops have produced pigs, dogs, cats, birds, squirrels etc. Animals which have a very distinctive outline tend to work the best.
You are welcome to discuss ideas for your sculpture with

Caroline prior to the workshop.

No previous experience is required.

Make a BushCraft Knife Course - Saturday 1st – Sunday 2nd June 2024

Two Day Course – Cost £230 Deposit £115

You will learn how to forge, heat treat, grind, sharpen a piece of tool steel and fit a handle to make a knife suitable for bushcraft.

Your expert bladesmith tutor is Gwyl Roche .

This course will run at least twice this year.

Make a Shave Horse Course - Saturday 1st of June.

One Day Course – Cost £115 Deposit £60

A shave-horse is a simple but effective traditional tool to hold a piece of green wood while it is shaped with a draw-knife.

You will be provided with all the materials you need and you will make your own “modern” pattern shave-horse to take home, based on the design of Mike Abbott.

There should be time to learn how to cleave green wood and shape it with a draw-knife on your new shave-horse.
