Sophie's Apiary
Sophie's Apiary is the home of a growing family of happy bee colonies in the Derbyshire area!
I am a Derbyshire beekeeper who produces pure raw runny honey from my lovely bees at Sophie's apiary! Raw honey is increasingly appreciated by honey lovers, especially for its great taste and health benefits! So far, my customers have commented on the great taste of my honey and they simply love the label, which I have found very rewarding. Sophie's apiary was set up in 2021, named after our litt

Oh yes the bees have done us proud this year ππ₯°π€© Itβs been a challenging year with the wet weather & yet they have done so well π And we left plenty of honey stores back for them to keep full & warm through the winter π
Bees (clade Anthophila): Bees sleep 4-6 hrs a day and sometimes sleep under a flowerhead or inside a deep flower like a squash blossom where the temperature can be up to 18 degrees warmer close to the nectar source & on occasions even hold each others feet. π
Sophieβs bees have exceeded our expectations so far for 2023!! What a team of hard working little bees π We are so grateful for the delicious honey they give us and we always make sure to leave them plenty to enjoy βΊοΈ
Our honey is cold filtered three times to remove all impurities, whilst leaving behind all the goodness, benefits and flavours of pure raw honey πΈπ

Have you ever wondered where bumblebees go in the winter? π€π
π―π« Bumblebees do not live in hives or make honey to eat over winter. Rather, Bumblebees are social insects, living in a colony with one queen and her worker daughters. Most bumblebees die off naturally before winter arrives, and only new queen bumblebees survive by hibernating in the soilπ
Queen bumblebees mate before going into hibernation, so by the time they emerge in spring or summer the following year, they are already carrying everything they need to start a brand new nest and create the next generation of bumblebees π
If youβre thinking of getting out into the garden this winter, remember you donβt need to be too tidy! Leaf litter and overgrown corners can provide homes to snoozing bumblebee queens. They also hibernate in the soil, so avoid digging! ππ€π

Consumers should 100% be able to make an informed choice on the quality of honey they buy, which is very much related to the country where it comes from.

Petition: Require honey labels to reflect all countries of origin of the honey. Currently the country of origin on labels can be replaced, if the honey originates from multiple countries, with βblend of EU/non-EU/EU and non-EU honeysβ. We believe this is insufficient to allow consumers to make an informed choice. All countries where the honey originated should be listed.
