The best intermittent fasting diet for your lifestyle

If anybody would like to support their wellbeing and lifestyles during lockdown with a juice cleanse please read this post or share with any friends or family you think may benefit from this dietary support during this time.

I am focussing on the idea of intermittent fasting, specifically the 5:2 fasting regime. My personal NEW MOON goal regarding health is get get my own system recharged using this strategy and technique too.

If you opt to fast for 12 hours or more, your body can switch into ketogenic metabolic mode that sees it calling on ketone bodies—molecules derived from fat—and free fatty acids as energy sources during the fasting period. Your body’s circadian rhythms (AKA its natural 24-hour cycle) can also be positively influenced by intermittent fasting. This alteration in your diet almost acts like a reset and aids cell repair and rejuvenation.

As pointed out in The Fast Revolution, scientific evidence has also pointed to intermittent fasting as a wellness approach that can improve health issues including insulin sensitivity, irregular glucose levels, high blood pressure, disproportionate percentages of body fat and inflammation.

Research shows that intermittent fasting can also be effective in the reduction of ectopic fat—unhealthy fat surrounding organs—that typically comes with type 2 diabetes."

5:2 intermittent fasting
As its name suggests, this type of intermittent fasting involves two days of restrictive eating, and five days spent following a regular, healthy diet, and was first championed by Dr. Michael Mosley in his 2013 book, The Fast Diet. As explained in The Fast Revolution, fasting day calories should be cut down to 500 calories per day for women, and 600 calories for men—this caloric intake makes up one quarter of the recommended daily intake to maintain weight.

For the remaining five days of the week, your daily intake of calories should sit around 1800 to 2000 if you’re female, and 1900 to 2400 if you’re a male. Or, if you feel able to do so, you could reduce your daily intake to 1500 calories for a lighter regular diet day.

Of course, your fasting days are flexible and can be conducted on any day of the week. So if you do have a special occasion coming up or you go out to dinner on one of your regular fasting days, you can opt to make that day a regular one instead. However it’s important to keep in mind that although this approach is flexible, it still requires discipline; all your hard fasting work will go to waste if you spend your regular diet days overindulging..."

For those who haven't heard or tried it before, Jamu is a highly potent medicinal tonic that I was taught how to make over in Bali in 2017 by some local medicine women in a village called Nyuh Kuning, Ubud. One of the many gifts I learnt whilst over there.

Jamu is packed with amazing anti inflammatory and anti cancerous ingredients. It contains many essential vitamins and minerals that help cleanse the body and help aid the detoxification process.

One of the main active ingredients in the juice I make is freshly pressed organic turmeric. Known as natures highest anti inflammatory. I combine this, along with other ingredients and add a good pinch of freshly cracked black pepper. Curcumin is an ingredient present in turmeric and is what is responsible for giving it its medicinal properties. The problem is that curcumin is not absorbed well in the body. This is where black pepper comes in. It contains a compound called piperine, which when combined with turmeric, increases the absorption of curcumin by upto an astonishing 2000%.

I offer my Jamu in 500ml swing cap bottles. Through my own experiences and recommendations I have learnt in Bali that a shot a day is very useful for the body. You may drink up to a small glass or cups worth though as it is so delicious!
