Hail Yourself
We are a mental health charity that provide support and practical support. There is no judgement just support.
Millions of us have experienced a mental health problem, or seen a loved one struggle. Some of us have seen our already fragile mental health plummet, while the support networks around us disappear. We’ve seen our friends, our partners, our parents, our children and ourselves struggle. Hail Yourself came into fruition after the tragic loss of a much loved musician, James Miller. Having the immorta
Please all consider sponsoring two of our Hail Yourself trustees, Kennedy Louise Stenton-Holland and Megan Axup as take the ultimate plunge to raise funds. They are doing their skydive in June this year. All the proceeds will go towards paying for much needed therapeutic services for people who are struggling with mental health related problems whilst waiting on the long NHS waiting lists. We are also starting up some peer mentoring talking shops for various groups, including a group for people living with Multiple Sclerosis. Exciting things for the future that is not possible without the fundraising. So thank you Meg and Kennedy for your support! I've often wanted to throw Meg out of a plane but I am told that she will be wearing a parachute haha

Today marks the start of Mental Health Awareness Week. It is an ideal time for us all to think about mental health and tackle stigma. Lets share coping strategies. There is no one single answer. What helps you cope with anxiety? For me its being outdoors in open space.
Often our mental health is affected by what we are going through or have been through. It is our mission to keep all involved with Hail Yourself safe. With that in mind I was lucky to be a part of a safeguarding conference today where I met with some wonderful people from IDAS. They work tirelessly with people who deal with domestic violence. It always shocks me that when we were children we were told to be always aware of 'stranger danger', when in fact it could be someone close to us that can cause us the most harm. If anyone out there doesn't know where to turn and needs help. Don't suffer in silence. Please reach out. Yourself
.....and last but by no means the least we have Kirsty on board. In Kirsty's own words ...."Hi I'm Kirsty. I am delighted to be involved with Hail Yourself. Mental Health is something I hold dear to my heart. It came as no surprise to me that I would work with people who struggle in some of my chosen professions, especially as a bar manager and a Care professional. However, I am now a business owner, working in health and beauty and it has surprised me how much people 'offload' when they come in. I want to feel empowered enough to know that in some way I can help and that is what brings me here." Kirsty Coughlan
We have our 2 new Trustees today. The first is Jordie who says: "One thing I've learnt thus far, is that there are no two people that are the same. We can be heavily critical of differences and all too often other peoples misplaced judgements can eat away at a person. I am a strong believer in celebrating uniqueness. This, and along with being proud of being one of James' many friends, brings me to Hail Yourself. In a world of grey lets be a splash of colour!" Jordi Paul
Good Evening all! We are proud to announce that we are getting ready to help our first person. We hope that we can start to make a real difference in our community and this will be the first of many. Below are our current trustees, Helen Axup, Kennedy Louise Stenton-Holland and Christian Carlisle. We have 2 more places for anyone who want to support this cause. As a trustee you will ensure that every penny raised is used to support our mission and values. We are also looking for ideas and support from anyone who wants to get involved with our money raising and outreach programmes.
Excited to introduce our latest trustee BBC Introducing's Christian Carlisle. In his own words this is why he's joined our mission.
“It pains me to know that so many people don’t get access to the help they need when suffering through a mental health crisis. It’s hard to ask for help, we’re constantly told to be strong and independent and while those are great virtues to pursue they are hard to maintain in perpetuity. Cracks can form at any time for any reason and we’re all susceptible, sometimes the biggest smiles hide the heaviest pain. James’ smile, despite hiding pain, was powerful. It brought comfort, joy, happiness and adventure to so many. I’m honoured to be a trustee for this fledgling charity established in his name and look forward to doing whatever I can to support its mission.”
Introducing our new Trustee, Kennedy. In Kennedy's own words:
As an individual, I have personally struggled with mental health. I have watched and witnessed friends also struggling and not getting the help they needed. Unfortunately I have had the heartache of losing people I am close to, to mental health illness’, and this is why I want to help. We need to put an end to the stigma around mental health and provide the correct professional help to all, no matter their circumstances. ‘Hail Yourself’ shares my own values and together we hope to make a difference.
‘Mental Health Disorders’ Is just an umbrella term used for many different conditions that have so many different characteristics and symptoms.
Whilst these conditions are not ‘one size fits all’ conditions, one thing does appear to link them all, a stigma that makes talking about them difficult.
Negative stigmas can truly be the most debilitating side effect of any mental health condition. This is because it causes a barrier that prevents being able to talk about it and gain the help we need.
With Hail Yourself you are heard. We offer a safe space where you can reach out and talk. We can also get you more clinical help if needed also. Follow us and keep updated.
WELCOME to our new Charity, 'Hail Yourself', FaceBook page. This mental health charity was made in memorial for a local young man, James.
James, or Miller to his friends, was a very talented and intelligent young man. A former guitarist and vocalist in a successful band ‘The Temple’. He was there for his friends and was an advocate for self-worth. He had his own struggles but he battled on. He had even had tattooed on his neck ‘Hail Yourself’ as if it was a constant reminder, not only to others, but also for himself.
Lockdown has not been easy for anyone but for somebody such as James, whose support network was very important to him, it seemed to be especially difficult. His struggle was real but he remained positive and sort help. He went to his doctors and prescribed antidepressants. Unfortunately, a rare side effect is suicidal thoughts and it appears to have been the case for James.
After a long fight, James lost his battle in August 2020.
