AFC Burton
Amateur football club, based in Burton, Christchurch, Dorset. Two teams playing in the Bournemouth S
🐯 Mixed weekend for tigers 🐯
Saturdays team managed to recover from a poor first half to come away with a resounding 6-2 win. Josh in goal had a huge performance that kept them well in the match, with clinical finishing from Sam Nash to get 4 goals.
The Sundays played West Howe, in the division above them, in the Cameron’s Sunday Cup. What a top performance, absolutely played them off the park in every area of the pitch that ultimately didn’t matter. The West Howe defence were kept very busy, and did well to stop us creating many clear chances. The only two looks at our goal they had, they scored. Definitely a performance we can come away with heads held high.
⭐️Man of the match⭐️
Another close vote and another, consecutive, award to Tom Jackson. A solid performance, kickstarting our attacks and snuffing out theirs.
🫏Donkey of the day🫏
Luke Barnett. No real donkey appeared on the pitch but in trying to convince the team he’d played as well as prime Neymar bagged him the award.
A wet weekend meant no football for the Sunday team, but it was the God Squad who opened the floodgates and hit 9 to win vs Victoria Park Rangers.
A sluggish start by the away team, missing chances in front of goal early on, but once the deadlock was broken, Burton found their rhythm and played some nice, intricate passing in the midfield. Hat-tricks each for front two Sam Nash and Paul Brandreth and a brace for Daniel Knox. Well done to John Bailey and team for never giving up and well reffed by Jordan White in the middle 👍🐯⚽️
Victoria Park Rangers 1, Burton St. Luke’s 9.
AFC Burton put their name in the 🎩 for the next round of the Cameron’s Cup!!
The Tigers started the game well with some good early spells of possession and our opponents grew more and more frustrated. This frustration boiled over for one of the opposing players who saw red for a double descent. The tigers took full advantage of this through a excellent strike from Ollie Nicholls into the bottom left corner from 25 yards out! Woodville weren’t ready to throw in the towel yet though! Woodville equalised through a well taken penalty after our skipper fouled their striker in the box.
Half time 1-1, a less stern talking to this week and more of a confidence boost. A half time sub saw our tower of a cb Tommo come off injured for Scotty D(who didn’t put a foot wrong second half)
The tigers took a while to grow into the second half but managed the game well and kept the ball for large spells of the second half! 20 minutes to go, a bit of trickery from our very own Peter Crouch saw him jacked down in the opponents box earning us a penalty. Up steps Bradshaw, hard and low penalty was met by a excellent save from the Woodville keeper pushing the ball up on the bar but Bradshaw was sharp on the spot to follow it in and slot it home!
A lapse in concentration allowed our opponents in forcing Lb James Sheppard to a tackle from behind giving a penalty away. Lucky for us, the opponents slotted the penalty just wide which gave us the kick up the ass we needed! Two quick fire goals from Crouchy saw us kill the game off with 5 minutes left to play!
Worthy mention to all 4 subs coming on and helping us push on to see the game out and to our gaffer who proved to be quite the target man up top!🤥
MOTM- Ollie Nicholls for a superb display in the 10 and a classy finish!
DOTW- Crouchy for trying to take it round the keeper on a hatrick and passing it straight to him!!
Massive credit to our opponents who really made a game of it deposited being reduced to 10 men for 70 minutes and enduring with 9 men for 10 of them too! We wish them the best of luck for the rest of the season!!
Next up, a home game vs West Howe Reserves(Kirkfield)
🐯⚽️ Tigers turn it around! ⚽️🐯
A flurry of second half goals saw Burton escape an embarrassing loss against a likely looking Wallisdown. Super subs managed to dig us out of the hole that a woeful first half had us in!
Stumbling out of the blocks, we couldn’t keep possession, couldn’t make our tackles or create any meaningful chances. Wallisdown looked much more comfortable, and it soon showed as they pounced on poor defending to score 3 within half an hour. This was a far cry from Burton to the performance in the abandoned game from the other week. The gaffer had seen enough and made two first half changes, enough to steady the ship going into half time.
Having received the full hairdryer treatment, the second half had our tails up. A quick goal soon came as Jesse bundled a corner in. Wallisdown poached a 4th as we chased, but it didn’t matter as Aaron hit a fantastic first time shot into the bottom corner in reply. Winger Dan Brooks scored two rapid fire goals as he found space in the box before Brad headed in for the important 5th. Finally, Harry Smith finished the game by taking the ball round the keeper for the 6th.
⭐️ Man of the match ⭐️
Aaron Bradshaw. Came on as a second half sub and instantly changed the game for us, bullied their defence, linked the play and got his goal.
Honourable mentions to Jesse and Dan, also key to the win.
🫏 The donkey award 🫏
For the first time ever it’s a double man of the match as Harry Fry wins it… but for Wallisdown. Comes away with an assist for them and might still be turned inside out by their winger.
Dishonourable mentions to Luke for being tired after 20, Guy for being hooked off and Lee for falling over taking a corner.
🐯⚽️ Late charge not enough to win. ⚽️🐯
Two late goals weren’t enough to get us through the quarterfinals of the In-Excess cup vs Rushmere.
A strong first couple of minutes saw chances come our way, but errors cost us as Rushmere capitalised to hit an early double. An own goal soon followed, with the tigers glad to just get to half time as Josh Daniels did everything he could between the sticks to keep this a contest.
Coming out much stronger in the second half, we piled on the pressure to create a lot more opportunities to score. Rushmere still found gaps but Josh had shut up shop and wouldn’t let them get another. In the final 15 we finally found the back of the net as Lee Vint and Brad Varley both converted emphatic headers. However it was too little too late, as we ultimately couldn’t overcome the challenge our first half had set us.
AFC Burton - 2 Rushmere - 3
⭐️ Man of the match ⭐️
Josh Daniels, truly kept us in the fight with an excellent goalkeeping display.
🫏 The donkey award 🫏
Tom Jackson, a solid return for the debutant but his own goal costs him as donkey.
A massive thank you to and .ak.83 for your sponsorship of our new training jackets!
The lads are really happy with them and they look really smart!!

🐅 ⚽️ Tigers strike vs Hordle Spurs! ⚽️🐅
A rotated squad from last week started today, as Ellis Dunne and Dan Brooks made their full debuts in attack, with Bradley Varley making his first appearance of the season at centre back. Also starting, Aaron Bradshaw lead from the front by dictating a punishing high press and linking play well.
Starting strongly, the first goal was created by the press winning the ball high up the pitch. The chance was almost scrambled clear but Ellis Dunne calmly laid the ball into the path of left back Harry Fry, who slotted the ball into the bottom corner.
Now firmly in control of the game, it wasn’t long until the next goal came in spectacular fashion. All Josh Arnell’s own work, he won the ball up the pitch, drove to the edge of the box and belted one into the top left corner.
Hordle had moments in midfield, but couldn’t find a real way through to their attack thanks to a tight defence. Getting on the ball after a throw in, Dan Brooks managed to feed the ball into Jesse’s feet who rolled his man and buried it across goal.
Second half and Hordle picked up their efforts, doing much better in possession although they struggled to find the final pass. The gaffer made changes. Harry Smith for Aaron, Ollie Batsford for Scott, Jayden Gicquel for Dan and Ben Hayden for Josh. All the subs picked up the tempo and chances came our way again. The final goal coming from Ben Rosenblatt, rounding off a solid game by latching onto a through ball from Harry Smith and cannoning it through the keeper at his near post. The final change saw fan favourite Barney Nicholls come on for Jesse.
AFC Burton wins 4-0. A fantastic team performance.
⭐️ Man of the match ⭐️
Ellis Dunne. Was given the tough job of supplying the attack while also being a key part of our defending from the front. A tireless performance. Had chances to score himself, but he didn’t have his shooting boots.
🫏 The donkey award 🫏
Harry Fry. What could’ve been a man of the match instead as he captained the team, scored a goal and kept a clean sheet. But he did also tackle his own centre back and boot a ball at Barney. Fine margins.
🐯⚽️ Young tigers shine despite result! ⚽️🐯
A new season saw a new look AFC Burton take to the field as full debuts were handed to young guns Josh Arnell, centre mid, Rob Duffy, right back, with James Sheppard and Jayden Gicquel forming the left flank.
Settling into the game, after riding more than a few heavy tackles, the tigers looked in control. Moving the ball fantastically from back to front saw plenty of chances fall our way. Multiple shots flashed agonisingly past the posts, with the woodwork even being rattled 3 times, most spectacularly from captain-for-the-day Joe Duffy’s long range effort. Going one down didn’t phase either, as an equaliser came after only minutes. The second half saw much of the same, but it was Victoria Park Rangers that had the clinical touch as they scored two. Substitutions made, the levels continued but now we were on the back foot. Chasing the game into the final ten, we were picked off for two more, ending the game with a score line that doesn’t reflect the positive performances and effort put in.
⭐️ Man of the match ⭐️
Rob Duffy. A rock solid performance in a tough debut, putting in maximum effort throughout the game. Did everything the gaffa asked for and more.
🫏 The donkey award 🫏
Scott Downer. A centre back attempting a bicycle kick and missing the ball completely, need I say more?
⚽️🚨 SEASON OPENER! 🚨⚽️ After what always feels like too long of a wait, the football season is back in action at Burton Rec as we take on Victoria Park Rangers in our first game of the season. Up the tigers! 🐅 👊
