π What an exhilarating start to AMEE 2024!
We opened with inspiring talks from Subha Ramani and Anne Lloyd, welcoming over 4000 global delegates. Jim Campbell from the WHO delivered a powerful plenary, highlighting the need to align health professions education with societal needs, gender equity, and workers' rights. The evening ended with an energetic performance by Swiss drumming band Stickstoff.

π Meet Veena Singaram, Chair of the Cross Cutting Programme Theme at !
Veena is an Associate Professor and Head of the Health Professions Education Unit at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
She holds a doctorate in health professions education (HPE) from Maastricht University and a fellowship from the Foundation for Advancement in Medical Education Research (FAIMER). She is also a 2023 Medical Education Fellow at the Karolinska Institutet in Sweden!
Veena also serves as Chair of the Southern African Association of Health Educationalists (SAAHE) Kwa-Zulu Natal chapter.

π’ Meet Paolo Martin, Chair of the Teaching and Facilitating Learning Theme at !
Paolo Martin is an Assistant Professor of Medicine & Health Professions Education and Assistant Director for Scholarly Communication at Uniformed Services University, Centre for Health Professions Education (CHPE) in Bethesda, Maryland (USA).
Paoloβs research focuses on why HPE stakeholders, who deserve a voice in HPE scholarship, are often overlooked and what educators can learn from highlighting their voices. His interests include dialogically organized pedagogies, learner wellbeing, and technologies for learning and community-engaged research.
At CHPE, Paolo teaches and advises graduate students in certificate, MHPE, and PhD tracks. He also serves on the USU Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) committee, where he instructs the university allyship curriculum.

Dr. Huwendiek, MD, PhD, MME, is a paediatrician and medical educator dedicated to enhancing healthcare education. As Associate Professor for Medical Education in Bern and head of the Department for Assessment and Evaluation at IML, he has led impactful educational projects internationally.
With over 120 peer-reviewed publications and numerous awards, including the Miriam Friedman Ben-David New Educator Award from AMEE, Dr. Huwendiek's research focuses on innovating assessment, feedback, and e-learning practices.
