Durham City Hockey Club is committed to developing our junior players both on and off the field. In addition to honing their playing skills, we believe it’s crucial to give them a deeper understanding of the game through umpiring. Our Umpire Development Officer- Miles Hudson, is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of officials by providing workshops that introduce key aspects of umpiring. These sessions not only improve their game awareness but also build leadership, confidence, and decision-making skills.
We want our young players to see the game from every angle, and by giving them the tools and knowledge to officiate, we’re fostering well-rounded hockey players who can appreciate all facets of the sport. The enthusiasm from our juniors, despite the challenging weather this morning, shows that they are eager to learn, and we’re excited to watch them grow both as players and future officials.

Let’s get ready to represent in style! 💪💛🖤💛💪🏼
The reintroduction of the clubs Men’s 4XI this year has been invaluable for our older juniors’ development.
Alongside the Men’s 4XI, Women’s 3XI, and the development team, our skilled junior players are gaining the chance to play a high standard of hockey in a supportive, encouraging environment.
This setup not only sharpens their skills but also boosts confidence and camaraderie within the club, giving our junior players strong role models to look up to 💪🏼.
Bringing back our Men’s 4s this season has been a fantastic addition to the club! It’s given our junior players a perfect stepping stone into the senior teams, offering them valuable pitch time and the chance to learn from some of our more experienced members. The 4s have created a space where developing players can grow, gain confidence, and play a good standard of hockey – all while strengthening the future of the club.
We can’t wait to see how they progress and the impact they’ll continue to make! 💛🖤💛
Our U14s have two exciting fixtures this weekend!
The U14 Girls take on Newcastle U14 Girls at 9:30am (A)
U14 Boys face Northallerton U14 Boys at 14:30pm (A).
Meanwhile, the rest of our juniors will be training at MC—ages 5-10 from 9:00-10:00am, and ages 11-16 from 10:00-11:30am. Looking forward to seeing all our young players in action! 💛🖤💛
So proud of our boys 💛🖤💛
Huge congratulations to our U14 boys on their fantastic debut match for DHJ on Sunday! Watching them grow and develop throughout the game was incredible. From the first whistle to the final minutes, the boys really came together as a team – especially impressive considering it was their first time playing together!
Their determination and teamwork were clear to see, and it’s exciting to think about how much more they’ll progress in the weeks to come. We can’t wait to see them in action again this weekend as they take on Northallerton! Let’s keep building on that momentum, boys! 💪🖤💛🖤💪
An exciting weekend ahead 🥳

Huge well done to our Women’s 3XI who got an impressive win today against Gateshead away! 💛🖤💛
We've wrapped up our first week of Durham Hockey Junior training sessions, and what an incredible start it's been! Last night alone, we had over 60 eager kids at Barnard Castle School, with another 60+ joining us at Maiden Castle, on both Thursday and Sunday. The energy and enthusiasm from both new and returning players have been off the charts, and we couldn’t be more excited about the bright future of DHJ.
A huge thank you to all the parents for your fantastic support during this period of transition – we truly appreciate it. By the end of this week, we hope to have everyone connected in our WhatsApp community and fully registered on Pitchero. We're working through the process as swiftly as we can and are grateful for your patience.
It's been absolutely wonderful to see so many new faces picking up a hockey stick for the very first time, alongside our returning players who continue to develop their skills and passion for the game. This is exactly what junior sport is all about—learning, growing, and making friends!
Want to get your children involved? Drop us a message for more details – we’d love to have them join the fun!

Change of hours
We are changing the times for our Junior hockey sessions starting from this Sunday 12th November.
Session 1 will change from 09.30-10.30am to 09.00-10.00am
Session 2 will change from 10.30am-12.00pm to 10.00-11.30am
This is to align to our indoor space in Arena A in case we need to be indoors over the winter period as we have the Arena 09.00-11.00am. So if we do move indoors and cant use the hockey pitch due to it being frozen/bad weather then the second session will become an hour instead of a 90 minute session but will mean we don’t have to cancel the session entirely.
Sunday 19th November 09.00-12.00 competition
We are inviting other junior clubs from the region to come along to Maiden Castle on Sunday 19th November (so less than 2 weeks time) and we will do a mixture of training sessions and games with them.
This will be a mixture of training drills and also games.
Could you complete the following quick form to let us know if you can make the whole 3 hours please. If any parents are happy to help on the day with any logistics then please let me know.
Fill | Junior Hockey training/competition - Sunday 19th November 09.00am-12.00pm The morning will be a mixture of training and then matches including our Durham Hockey Junior players and players/teams from other local clubs.
