Rodeo Roundup... Surprise tabletop edition!?!?
Welcome back to Miles' Writing Rodeo! It has been a while, hasn't it? For those who have only just joined us, my aim for this challenge has been to finish 12 stories in 12 months. This month's Rodeo is a bit of an odd one, though, because it won't have an ending. And that's exactly why I wanted to talk about it!
Inspired by the journalling game Apawthecaria and the difficulty I had in learning and setting up the game, I've made a small journalling game of my very own, one easy to learn and play, but based around a fantasy book I love. (You may recognize it as the one featured in my Zine, All the Lonely Fandoms!)
I aim to limit myself to a maximum of one page per day, with random encounters helping to organically develop a character who adapts and changes in a setting and story that isn't under my control.
My hope is that doing this will create a writing experience that will feel new every time I play. By drawing cards from a standard 52-card deck, I can pull one of 52 potential encounters. By rolling a dice, I'll then find out whether the experience had a positive or negative impact on my character.
Eg:
I draw a 6 of clubs and try to learn a new skill.
I rolled a 3. My project went badly and, disappointed, I plan to try again another day.
While I'm hoping to give this story a concrete beginning, middle and end within a single notebook, what those pages contain is completely up to chance.
Whether I stick with this journalling project for 3 months or 3 years, I'm looking forward to giving it my best shot!

Again, we are hearing some rumours of things happening in town today but again, we cannot confirm if these rumours are true. We aren't seeing as much about today as earlier in the week so we are operating with normal hours. If this changes we will let you know via our socials.
Thank you to everyone who placed an order on our website, that has helped massively with the business we've lost while the shop was closed. We will get your orders ready today 🩷🩵
It's been a really difficult decision but ultimately we have decided to remain closed today.
This has been such a hard choice to make as we understand how important safe spaces like ours are, especially at times of uncertainty.
We were worried that being open would encourage people to come into town, putting them at risk and thats not something we ever want to do.
We will be open tomorrow as normal. Stay Safe and avoid the city if you can. Whilst the shop is closed, our website remains open. If theres anything you'd like us to order in, just reach out.
Your support means everything to us in this difficult situation. Everyone's well wishes and messages mean the world 🩷🩵🐉
We will be omce again closing early at 3:30pm based on advice from the market managers and police.
We will be making a decision on what to do tomorrow soon.
Please stay safe and avoid the city if you are able.
Quick little heads up, we have closed a little bit earlier today (Monday August 5th) following rumours of a Far-Right riot happening in the city.
We are currently unsure of how true these rumours are but thought it best not to risk our safety.
Please be safe if you are in the city tonight, avoid the city if you can.
