Penshaw Monument, Winter Sunset.
Just finished.
I reworked this painting this morning. It had been sitting around for a very long time because I wasn't happy with it.
It was inspired by my walks through a forest in winter in France. Heavenly and ethereal. Sometimes I had to walk through at night and it was so peaceful.
This canvas used to be a portrait of Barry. He asked for his portrait to be of a very particular style. When I asked why he wanted this particular style he just said 'Because I can."
Unfortunately Barry passed away and his daughters asked me if I would like the canvas back.
So with apologies, Barry, you were painted over. I hope you don't mind.
I've put the portrait in the comments.
Seaham lighthouse, on one of the days that swimming wasn't possible on The Slope.
4 days away with my wonderful adult children
Camping in the Lake District.
Can't take my oils with me but I'm using a lovely little watercolor box that my mum bought me decades ago.
Just painted the view from the tent on a rainy day. We have had two beautiful days of sunshine.
It's only taken me about 8 years, but 'The Seasons' are finally finished.
Just waiting for the paint to dry then I'll take them to be framed.
Do you have a favourite?
The roses are just coming out in the garden, so about time to start them on the canvas.
Accompanied by Milly's Song.
Just a few paintings from the last 20 years, and some from even further back in time, accompanied by a waltz that I wrote for my mum and dad.
Excited to hear "Looming" is off to its new home.

So far........
I was born in Yorkshire, England and grew up in County Durham. I was given my first oil paints by my Dad when I was nine yrs old.
While at school I read “Jonathan Livingston Seagull”, by Richard Bach, which inspired the seagull and sky paintings. My hope was to reflect the power, solitude and freedom expressed in the book. I had my first exhibition at seventeen. I studied an Art foundation course in London where I was also inspired by the work of artist William Turner and the radiance in his paintings, before completing my B.Ed. in Durham.
Since then I have done many different jobs, including a swimming pool attendant, a print assistant, a ski instructor and a foster parent but mainly have spent my life teaching. For more than 30 years I have been an ESOL teacher, teaching English to refugees, foreign inmates in a prison and now Gurkha recruits for the British Army. During all this time I have always tried to keep painting while also bringing up two wonderful children.
While living in New Zealand I was lucky enough to be “discovered” and was asked to show work in the week long Mazda ArtWorks Exhibitions held in the Hilton in Auckland. I was also lucky enough to be one of the artists in residence for several of these events. These occasions were something I really looked forward to. After living in New Zealand for nearly twenty years I returned to the UK and now work from home in County Durham, England. I have many paintings in collections from Asia, Australia and New Zealand, the USA and the UK.
