🚨 Middlesbrough Mela is Back on New Dates! 🚨
We’re thrilled to announce that the Middlesbrough Mela, the region’s largest celebration of multiculturalism, has been rescheduled for 7th and 8th September! 🎉
After recent unrest in our town, we made the difficult decision to postpone the event. However, the overwhelming support from our community has inspired us to bring it back even stronger. Following a crucial meeting with local leaders, we’re excited to return to Albert Park in less than three weeks, symbolizing our town’s resilience and unity.
Mela leaders expressed their gratitude: “We’re deeply encouraged by the solidarity of those who recognized the importance of Mela. With the support of our MP, Mayor, and Police, we’re confident that Middlesbrough Mela will continue to be a beacon of hope and unity for our town and the wider region.”
For over three decades, Middlesbrough Mela has been a flagship event promoting community cohesion, integration, and inclusivity. This year, despite the challenges, the Mela will once again light up Albert Park with vibrant performances and a spirit of togetherness that defines our town.
Mayor Chris Cooke, MP Andy McDonald, and Police Crime Commissioner Matt Storey have all praised the Mela as a celebration of diversity and unity, highlighting its importance in bringing our community together.
🗓 New Dates: 7th and 8th September

Chore Of Enchantment (25th Anniversary Edition)
Celebrating 25 years since the release of Giant Sand’s legendary ‘Chore Of Enchantment’, the panoramic masterpiece that was the turning point for the classic line-up featuring seasoned songwriter Howe Gelb and latter-day Calexico members Joey Burns and John Convertino from 1999.
Filled with mind-bending one-liners, customary offbeat instrumentation, echo fields and hazy horizons; ‘The Chore Of Enchantment’ is a songbook of Howe Gelb’s greatest songs. The high level production by the legendary Jim Dickinson, PJ Harvey foil John Parish and acclaimed singer/songwriter/producer Kevin Salem, a tour-de-force of Gelb’s unique oeuvre.
Highlighting their eclectic and esoteric career, this reissue celebrates the band’s magnificent, long and winding career. This deluxe reissue features restored artwork and newly penned liner notes from MOJO’s Dave Henderson.
“A beautiful, emotionally complex album.” The Quietus
Giant Sand have been the primary outlet for the stylistic curveballs and sun-damaged songcraft of singer-songwriter Howe Gelb. In four plus decades he’s managed to reinvent rock, country, blues, punk, garage, lo-fi, jazz, gospel, avant-garde noise and flamenco gypsy music with his impressionistic imagery and expansive observations of the world.
The reissue is released alongside 2010’s ‘Blurry Blue Mountain’. A gorgeous and much-celebrated collection of perfectly-crafted, personal songwriting from Howe Gelb. It’s another well-thumbed chapter recounted by one of Americana’s great writers.
“An album full of heart, soul, and wit… there’s some very real magic to be found in the elegant force of Blurry Blue Mountain.” AllMusic
Giant Sand will be touring the UK this April which includes a special live date at EartH collaborating with Steve Wynn and Kristin Hersh in celebration of Fire Records’ 40th Anniversary.

TV Smith was founder member, singer and songwriter for the Adverts, who formed in late 1976, and were
one of the leading bands in the first wave of British punk rock. In early 1977, they performed regularly at the
newly-opened Roxy Club in London, and gained cult success with the Stiff Records single "One Chord
Wonders." Their next release, "Gary Gilmore's Eyes" became a hit record, leading to radio and TV appear-
ances and extensive media interest. A further single, “No Time To Be 21,” also entered the charts, and the
band spent the rest of the year playing live, including major tours with The Damned and Iggy Pop. The al-
bum that followed in early 1978, "Crossing the Red Sea with the Adverts," is still considered a genuine
classic of the era and is often cited as one of the twenty best punk albums ever.

Thats beautiful Mary x
I was so sad to hear that Vince Power had died on Saturday..
The loss to his family is unimaginable💔💔
I sang at the Mean Fiddler in 1987 for 7 nights . And again a few months later for another 7 nights ..
He was always there . I remember the night that he brought Van Morrison. Elvis Costello & Cait O Riordan , Nick Cave into my dressing room after the gig !
I did 11 Fleadhs in Finsbury Park .. Fleadh Mor in Tramore , NY & Chicago!
Reading , Glastonbury and many more .
Just over 30 years ago when I had well & truly hit my rock bottom, he took me aside and asked me if I needed help 😔
I said yes ..
He paid for me to go to The Rutland Centre and of course he gave me gigs when I came out ..nobody even wanted to talk to me .. but Vince did .
He was cross when I did gigs at other venues BUT he still came and sat at a table beside the stage , always ..
One night I mentioned my grandson wanted to see his favourite football team in London ... Not only did he get the tickets for Luke & James he met them for lunch and handed the tickets over himself..
Who does that ?
Vince Power did ..
For everything you did for me Vince and my family Thank You 🙏
I will miss you .
But I’ll think about you riding around festivals in a golf cart with your kids .
I’ll remember it all ..
💔💔💔💔
Rest in Peace. Adored Goodbye Jumbo x
