Durham City Folk Club
Format changing. NOW :Some WEDNESDAYS 8pm Bridge Hotel
COME & SING/PLAY/ENJOY A WIDE RANGE OF MUSIC Informal session for Singers and Players
TO FOLK SCENE CLUBS IN N.E.
Had a msg from DURHAM COUNTY SHOW inviting the club to provide entertainment. At present we don't have the capacity to do much so I'm trying to invite all folk scene clubs from Tyneside to Teeside to join in. Maybe we can do something special and do our clubs a power of good.
I'm using my old copies of Folk Roundabout and of course getting out of date email addresses - or none, and missing newer groups.
I've included dance, music and song.
If you want to help work out what we might do, send me a msg with your email and I'll send you a link to the Zoom meeting I'm running next Weds eve (10 May).
I think this could be a great opportunity
CHANGES IN OUR CLUB FORMAT
Our weekly sessions are proving unsustainable - which unfortunately seems to be a common problem for quite a lot of clubs. We have started from a very low base after Covid. Resuming a live club and being newbies at social media it was too ambitious to run weekly.
NEW SCHEDULE
We now aim to run about monthly with a guest artist. Many of these could be charity gigs. Support performers will be welcome.
OUR NEXT CLUB will be on Wednesday 17th May when we host the CELIA BRYCE BAND
Many thanks to PCADDY WADDY for an entertaining evening. I particularly liked some of their Carol King numbers. This gig was to support Alice House, the Hartlepool Hospice.
I hope they raised some ££££
In 3 weeks we are hosting the CELIA BRYCE BAND & this will probably be for OUR local hospice, St Cuthberts. - 17th May. Eyes peeled for further info 🧐
Cracking stories about the songs and people on the folk scene. Worth mentioning that this is purely folk. The Churches charity has funded it.
Another excellent night on Wednesday. Thanks to Storiella and co, we had a cracking evening.
The Bridge are working hard to make us feel at home, but there can be problems with the TV occasionally. Have to see how it goes.
No soccer next week so we should be fine.
Well, its an unpleasant driek evening and the Magpies match is on the pay TV.
Plenty incentive to stay in- but fortunately I don't do pay TV so I would have to go out to watch the match anyway.
I'll be at the Bridge Hotel hoping not too many people are put off😺😸
Another excellent night yesterday. Thanks so much Teresa (Storiella) and Burt - a very nifty guitar man - for supporting us.
But we do need more floorsingers - plenty of opportunities for folks to sing or play for us.
Every Wednesday, 8pm Bridge Hotel.
We are indeed meeting every week.
Look forward to seeing you there
Looking forward to Wednesday night - our 3rd relaunch night. First 2 very enjoyable.
We need more floorsingers so plenty of opportunities to step forward and sing or play your favourites.
Bridge Hotel is a good venue and so handy for public transport.
Looking forward to our second week actually singing and playing to a REAL audience - not a Zoom one.
Plenty of floorsinging time likely.
Weather forecast is cold but clear for the evening - that's a lot better than last week.
Hope to see a good crowd.
Decent first relaunch attendance on a really dreich night, Wednesday night AND excellent sets by Broadband (the group). Definitely a group to enjoy if you get the chance.
We were short of floor singers so if you're looking for your 5 minutes in the limelight........get your body to the Bridge Hotel on a Wednesday night!
See you next Wednesday?
Club relaunch this Wednesday 1st March-
Had a brilliant response from local artists.
Looks like we will have 4/5 soloists and groups doing short sets.
See you at the Bridge Hotel, Durham 8pm
I posted a couple of weeks back that you can park on the Station Approach for the Bridge Hotel.
DON'T!!! Thats just taxis. You'll invite aggro.
Welcome to new group members. Hope to see you in 2 weeks when we relaunch on 1st March. Nervous wait!!!
John B you asked about parking. I'll assume you ( and maybe others) don't know the city too well. The A690 runs close to the pub. You turn off it and start to drive up the hill. Station approach is on your right. Should be space up there. If you turn left its residential so some spaces. If you straight on (up the hill) its North Road and seems to be plenty space up there because not many houses.
CLUB RELAUNCH - HERE WE GO !!!!🥳
Our first night will be WEDNESDAY 1ST March 8pm. at the Bridge Hotel, Durham City.
The "Bridge" is just by the bus station roundabout, underneath our famous viaduct, opposite the rail station approach.
Here's hoping to see lots of familiar faces and new faces too.
COME TO SING / PLAY OR JUST ENJOY
