Cotgrave took the lead when a delightful flick and half volley was smashed past Mark Latham in the Retford goal after 20 mins. Retford nearly drew level when an Oliver Chappell free kick was blocked with what appeared an arm and Retford appealing for a penalty Chappell Didn’t hesitate smashing his 20yd volley against the crossbar Lee Gallagher reacted first to the rebound but a fantastic block tackle was enough to force Gallagher to fire over from close range and see cotgrave ahead at the break.

Andrew shaw was sent to the sin bin after comments regarding a ball that looked well out of play, and for a few minutes cotgrave got on top but Retford were defending well. Retford introduced Guest as they gambled on winning the game switching to a 3-4-3 formation. The introduction worked well for Retford, who now began to Pin Cotgrave back into their own half. Guest, Chappell, smith all tested the cotgrave goal now with Retford well on top Retford fired over a close range header and glorious chance to win the tie with 2 minutes remaining , and the match went to penalties.

Cotgrave went first firing just passed Latham into the bottom corner of the goal. Nick Del Colle stepped up first for Fc with a very composed penalty sending the keeper the wrong way. For 1-1.

Retford Fc Vets 5 AFC Mansfield 2

An awful start to the game by FC conceding a goal in the first minute from a corner. Something FC talked about in the changing rooms, not giving away cheap corners against a very big side. Retford drew level with well taken finish by Oliver Chappell to make it 1-1. Last seasons top scorer Carl Marriott made it 2-1 after being played in by Lee Smith Marriott firing into
The bottom corner of the net from an angle. Fc We are now dominating possession and creating lots of chances. It what’s 3-1 Nathan Allen long goal kick was superbly taken down by Marriott who played on Chris Woodhead to fire home.

It was soon 4-1 when Chappell who was causing so many problems slotted into the bottom corner for his 2nd of the game. A lacklustre second-half performance by FC, who were a little below par saw Mansfield pull one back after some sloppy play.
Retford kept probing and creating chances a couple of big penalty appeals were turned down for Retford. Before Lee smith was fouled in the box. Dave Rew stepped up and calmly tucked to the ball into the bottom corner of the net to make it 5-2 to Retford Fc. A satisfactory performance that keeps Retford is unbeaten record intact, though the team can improve massively on today’s display.
