The Paralympics are underway in France and that means we’re about to witness some incredible feats of athleticism and skill. With all the talk of inspiration, we can sometimes forget that these are hugely competitive people all giving everything for gold.⁣

Chelsea are about to embark on another European tour.

The Blues go into their first-ever Europa Conference League campaign among the favourites to lift the trophy in Warsaw. That's not just because of their expensively assembled squad but also due to their superb European pedigree.

Chelsea's first European triumph came in 1971 when they beat Real Madrid in the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup at the second attempt. Twenty-seven years later, the Blues went down in history as the last winners of the Cup Winners' Cup when they defeated VfB Stuttgart 1-0 in Sweden.

It was heartbreak for Chelsea the next time they reached a European final, losing to Manchester United in the 2008 Champions League final. However, they avenged that defeat in style in 2012.

After coming through a daunting semi-final against Barcelona, Chelsea beat Bayern Munich in their own stadium in one of the most dramatic European Cup finals of all time. Didier Drogba dragged Chelsea back into the match with a bullet header after Thomas Müller looked like he'd won it late on for Bayern. Then it was Petr Čech's turn to be the hero, first by saving an Arjen Robben penalty in extra time, and then by making two more saves in the penalty shootout before Drogba scored the decisive penalty.

Although Chelsea's defence of the Champions League was frankly hopeless, they recovered to win the Europa League in 2012-13. When Rafa Benítez guided Chelsea to victory over Benfica, they became the first club to hold both the Champions League and Europa League titles at the same time.

Carlos Tevez: The Heart of El Apache

Carlos Tevez was more than just a brilliant footballer. His world-class technique, innate intelligence and knack for delivering when it mattered earned him admiration wherever he played. But it was his heart than earned him love.

Tevez embraced the nickname "El Apache," a proud nod to Fuerte Apache, the tough neighborhood in Buenos Aires where he grew up. His fearless approach on the field and tireless work ethic were deeply rooted in his upbringing.

His life story was compelling enough to inspire a Netflix series, "Apache: La Vida de Carlos Tevez." The series traces his journey out of Fuerte Apache, but for those who watched him play, it's clear that Fuerte Apache never left him.

Tevez’s legacy is not just in the goals he scored or the trophies he won, but in the spirit and determination he brought to every game. That's what resonated with football fans across South America and Europe.

Burnley are sitting pretty after their two opening matches of the Championship season.

Scott Parker has overseen two wins with nine goals scored and just one conceded. He's also had some backing in the transfer window so the pressure is one to keep the results coming both home and away.

Lineker presented his first Match of the Day of the season on Saturday but without his two favourite clubs as Leicester and Tottenham finish the first round of fixtures on Monday Night Football.

The former England striker scored 103 goals in 216 appearances for Leicester and 80 goals in 138 appearances for Tottenham and retired as a legend at both clubs.

If your team hasn't come flying out of the blocks this season, fear not. The old adage of it not being about how you start but how you finish remains true.

It was certainly true of England at the 1966 World Cup.

Alf Ramsey's team looked anything but world-beaters as they played out a goalless draw with Uruguay in their first match of the tournament.

England grew into the tournament though, winning their next two group stage games 2-0 before ultimately going on to earn their place in history.

Kieran McKenna has big shoes to fill.

He's achieved something remarkable by guiding Ipswich Town to back-to-back promotions but is some way off the legend status afforded to Alf Ramsey and Bobby Robson.

Ramsey's Ipswich were crowned champions of England in their first-ever top-flight season; Robson's Ipswich won the FA Cup in 1978 and the UEFA Cup in 1981.

How well will McKenna's Ipswich do back in the Premier League? It all starts this afternoon with the visit of Liverpool to Portman Road.

What a week ahead at Students of the Game!

We're delighted to be part of two excellent events over the weekend, one right outside our doorstep and the other in London.

On Saturday it's Summer in Little Chelsea. Little Chelsea Events have put together a smashing day of activities, entertainment and shopping for all the family. We'll have further details of what we're putting on over the course of the week but it's definitely an event not to miss.

Then at the crack of dawn on Sunday it'll be time to pack the car with the best of our football shirts, programmes, Subbuteo and more as we head to Big Penny Social in Walthamstow for the Retro Football Fair. Paradise for collectors of football shirts, boots, memorabilia and much more.

It's also another huge week of summer sport with highlights including wall-to-wall football at Euro 2024, tennis at the Queen's Club, and five days of the world's best Flat racing at Royal Ascot.

🏀 The Dallas Mavericks did it the hard way, beating Oklahoma City Thunder 117-116 in game seven of their playoff encounter. That result took them to the Western Conference Finals against the Minnesota Timberwolves which begin on Wednesday. The Boston Celtics and Indiana Pacers get the conference finals underway the previous day as the Boston hosts game one of a highly-anticipated match-up.⁣

🏎️ The F1 calendar has more than its fair share of soulless Grands Prix but we get all the glamour and prestige of years gone by with the Monaco Grand Prix this weekend. Max Verstappen was back on top of the podium last week and he’s an overwhelming favourite to win his third Monaco Grand Prix.⁣

🎾 Finally, the warm-up European clay court tournaments are all done and it’s time for the big one, Roland-Garros. In the women’s draw it very much looks like Iga Swiatek’s to lose after she swatted Aryna Sabalenka away in the final of the Italian Open on Saturday. Things are much more open in the men’s draw with Carlos Alcaraz a very narrow favourite over Novak Djokovic.
