Year 2 have had a fantastic week focusing on their Design and Technology skills. We have been learning about stability in products and exploring the most effective ways to make a chair for Baby Bear - or in our case, Baby Gruffalo.
The children explored shapes using modelling clay, considering which rolled and from what distance. They then made these shapes with paper and placed books on them to see which could hold the most. We ended the week making prototypes of our chair using paper and masking tape. After half term, the children will have a go at their final product and consider the design features.
Great job Year 2!
This week in Year 4, we've had so much fun making our final pieces for our DT project on fastenings. We brought our designs to life by carefully sewing our book sleeves and choosing a suitable fastening to keep our books safe! The end results were fantastic!

Thank you so much for the wonderful shoe box donations today! Don’t forget, we are taking donations until Monday 4th November.
In Year 5 this week, the pupils made the fruit crumbles that they had been designing in class. They worked collaboratively to make the crumble topping and learnt how to peel and cut fruit safely. Their final products looked and smelt amazing!
Using drawing pencils, Year 6 have experimented using different shading and mark making techniques to create different tones.
Next lesson we will be using some of these ideas to make our drawings look three dimensional!
Year 2 have loved learning about The Great Fire of London this term. To help us remember key facts we decided to learn a song all about what happened! The children learnt the song and signs to represent the words.
This was day one of learning it and Mrs Laing-Webb and Ms Field were blown away by how much they remembered and how beautifully they sang.
Well done Fearnley class!

EYFS have been learning about Autumn this week. They have been on a walk to ‘The Wild Space’ looking for signs of Autumn.
They have also enjoyed listening to the story ‘Rosie’s Walk’ and have worked hard to make their own story maps and fantastic clay hens. Well done Tiddlers and Elmers for another busy week!
On Wednesday, Year 5 had the first of 4 workshops run by the Glyndebourne Singing Schools project.
A composer and pianist and an opera singer joined us to extract the pupils' ideas for a joint composition that will be performed in December in an Eastbourne venue. It was fabulous!
As part of Year 6's DT unit on creating a navigational device, the children have programmed microbits with a light, pedometer and cardinal compass!
Year 1 had the opportunity to investigate different toys from the past during our history lesson. We have been looking at the similarities and differences between toys of the past and those we play with today.
Year 2 has been studying The Great Fire of London this term. This week, they looked at an image and labelled it on mini post-it notes with all of the reasons the fire spread quickly. They came up with: because it was night time so people were asleep and didn't respond quick enough, the houses were close together with thatched roofs, the streets were too narrow, people had to use leather buckets as fire engines didn't exist and no one was in charge so people weren't sure what to do! They then wrote a paragraph to explain. They were so focused and interested, working really hard and being thoughtful in their responses. Well done Fearnley class!
This week in English, Year 3 have been looking at instructions and the key skills needed to create them.
We've talked a lot about imperative verbs (which are the bossy action words telling us what to do!), sequencing adverbs so that we know when to do something, and why headings and subheadings are really important.
In our latest lesson, we had some instructions cut up. Working together, we needed to figure out which subheadings fit under each topic, which instructions went with them, and the order they needed to go in.
It's safe to say that we are very prepared to write our own instructions on how to wash a Smilodon next week!
Year 6 have been exploring how we communicate and collaborate using technology during our Computing lessons. They have discovered how data is sent using a clear format in data packets- through a practical task we were able to see how important it is that these are accurately completed in order to reach their destination.
The children in Elmer and Tiddler have drawn and painted some amazing self- portraits this week as part of their 'All about me' topic. They looked carefully at their facial features and enjoyed mixing paints to create some fantastic masterpieces.
We have also been looking at maps and have had fun creating our own maps for a post van to use to help deliver some important parcels.
We've had a great day in London, experiencing the food, culture and history from around the world with Walk Eat Talk Eat. Our current ETA is 5.00pm.
