MADFLAP and Laurie have been providing shows and workshops that have reached over 3,000 schools all
Long overdue thank you to everyone who came to both our open garden events this year, we raised over £350 for medical charities and Edinburgh children's hospital.
Though it was fantastic to raise money, what was most fun was meeting old and new neighbours. So thanks to you all for coming over and having a scone and tea and fantastic to see so many families and children playing with Wee Finlay in the garden.
So for next year we are hoping to do a bit more outreach if we can and offer even more activities for families with small or no outdoor space for growing and gardening. Wee Finlay our head gardener has many plans for new growing ideas in kitchens, on landings, up or down outdoor walls, little corners of unloved grass given a wild haven makeover, fruit and nut trees in containers, wheelbarrow gardens, and vertical gardens.
Our rewilding of our green grass desert at the front of the house has gone well and made dramatic changes to insect and bird visitors with our new lazy bones garden and Scarecrow Bee and Butterfly pit stop garden. Watch this space as we hope to add layers of wildlife diversity as well as habitat for the birds and hopefully see more hedgehogs.
We hope some day to have a hive and do some proactive bee encouragement but our under gardener grandpa, has to still get the fruit trees into better order as well as finishing the roof on the long overdue ‘sitooterie' so the bees may have to use our bee hotels for a little longer.
This year we will have an open day where we will have a theme of gardens in small spaces and places the date to be still arranged.
We will be looking also at sky watching from the garden making our own night sky observatories from found materials as well as some home spun weather stations with windsox, kites and more dire stories involving exploding toilets as barometers, a firm seat for more garden and home science. Grandpa with his tales of the outdoor wooden cludgie with spiders the size of pie dishes and rocking in Scottish gales like a spaceship on re entry.
Madflap Science mini-school workshops and shows are ready for the spring and summer terms of 2023, ideal for small Scottish schools.
Infant and Primary ages, including "Wee Flappers Workshop", Assembly shows and workshops, and STEM workshops.
Please keep an eye out for the wee Madflap flier with more details!!
