Greenbelt Garden Services

A very sustainable gardening business operating in Edinburgh and the lothians. We specialise in work

17/10/2023

Hi folks. I'll have a bit of time for some garden maintenance jobs over the winter as I've shifted my time around with my main jobs. I'll be looking for garden maintenance jobs, hedge cutting, tree pruning, herbacious border maintenance and any other horticultural task related to getting your garden ready for the new year. I have insurance, tools 25 years of gardening experience and references if required.

Things will be changing for me and my wee garden project for the foreseeable future. My time each week will be split evenly between community gardening with Grow West Fife and market garden development at Lauriston Community Farm. It feels good getting back in to that kind of work at a time when it's needed and the change should give me time to study. I'm not closing GBG but I won't be doing regular domestic maintenance or landscaping.

thanks to all my awesome clients - you made my transition back to gardening after the first lock down a very pleasant experience. 👍😁🙌

Here's something else I do (I was a market gardener for a long time after all)

I was Iain's mentor and for a couple of others via FAS and I've worked with Nourish Scotland in the past to mentor about 20 more new farmers.

Hello everybody.

I thought I'd take time to write a post for all my customers to let you know I'll be operating safely, as in previous lockdowns, throughout the period of the enhanced covid restrictions we are now facing. Gardening is a safe trade to carry on with as it is all outdoors and can be carried out without contact. I have a double vaccination and by Monday I'll have had a booster too. I'll never need to enter anybody's home and we can converse about jobs outdoors, safely distanced and wearing masks if required. I'll be taking regular LFT tests and if I have any symptoms I'll follow up with a PCR test. I've got plenty to do and lots of work lined up, the only change is that I may have to do some work at weekends rather than than through the week if additional child care is required.

I'd also like to take this chance to thank all of my customers for helping me have a successful and happy 2021. My wife and I haven't sent xmas cards for a few years now but I'd just like to say happy xmas/ holidays/ new year to each and every one of of you.

Slainte Mhath!!!!!

Hi. Its been a busy start to the year and I'm very grateful for that. If you're waiting on a definite date for a job we've agreed on I'll be planning my diary for the next couple of months, this week. In the meantime here's a snap of one of last week's jobs. I started with grass, removed turf, built and set the pergola, worked the soil and planted herbaceous perrenials planned with the customer. It's a great way to break up a long lawn and add interest and zones. In a year or so the plants will grow to fill the beds.

Nearby wild - how I turned my lawn into a mini-meadow Decades of regular mowing left my front lawn looking bare and sterile, writes Jo Cartmell. But in fact, the exhausted, infertile soil made it the perfect place for a host of wild flowers to take up residence - some from planted seed, others blown-in, or from long buried seed lying dormant in the soi...

In the ethos of GBG, this bed was made with materials the customer had in hand the planting started with some rescued perrenials. More planting is needed to complete the job for summer.

A pond in a customer's garden, full of the joys of spring. So to speak. We love gardening with Nature at Greenbelt.

An ongoing job in Linlithgow. So far it includes raised/ retaining bed building, levelling, slabbing, greenhouse building, gravelling, tree relocation and more.

Hi all. It's been a great start to the new incarnation of this wee business. We've lots of interesting jobs and we're enjoying seeing the season begin to progress in the gardens we visit regularly. Covid restrictions are slowing things down a bit as we juggle home learning, childcare and our garden work. With a bit of luck we'll be able to pick up the pace from 15th March if more kids go back to school. We're on it though and will have your gardens ready for spring.

14/01/2021

Hello everybody. There's no change for gardeners in the new, slightly tighter restrictions. I'll keep working, without contact. If you need to speak to me in the garden, masks and social distancing apply.

08/12/2020

HI.

Thanks to all of you for getting in touch and having us help in your garden.

We've only got a couple of half day slots left to fill before xmas, let me know if you need anything done quickly and we'll book you in those.

Otherwise I'll be in touch shortly after new year. I know there's loads to do so we'll get moving again from 04/01/2021.

Until then, have a happy holiday and an even better new year, whatever it throws at you.

Best wishes.

Rob

Hi all. As per previous post with Scot Gov advice I will be continuing work when the new Covid restrictions start on Friday. If need to chat with you in your garden I will be wearing a mask and maintaining social distancing. In some cases I will cross from a Tier 3 to a Tier 4 area but I will only stop at the gardens I will be working on, not at any shops or suppliers. With these measures I will avoid any risks of transferring the virus.

Hey. I'm very busy at the moment. I'll be in touch by the end of the week with everyone due a visit to set a date. Thanks. 💕🌲

That's us all kitted up now with our new van and ready for the new era of Greenbelt. With electric power tools and an electric van we're looking to be as eco as possible. reducing our carbon foot print and noise pollution when doing the job.

Can gardeners still work? Coronavirus advice for gardening during UK lockdown 07/10/2020

Hi. This article from April describes the lockdown rules for gardeners. Even in the full lockdown gardeners were able to keep working. Social distancing applies but that's easily achieved.

"“If they can go about their business safely this can be good for the community and we would encourage them to do so.” Nicola Sturgeon.
