Tomorrow evening (25th November), join us to celebrate Fair Saturday, a positive response to Black Friday in aid of Marie Curie and St Columba's Hospices.

Lots of Coburg artists and designers worked together to make work using the beads and materials left by our lovely colleague, jeweller,  Grainne Broderick. Grainne was cared for by the Marie Curie Hospice in Edinburgh. We will be selling work made using Grainne's beads at our Fair Saturday Sale, along with lots of lovely 2D and 3D work. All work is donated by Coburg House artists and makers, all priced at £50 or less and100% of all sales will go to Marie Curie and St Columba's hospices.

Fair Saturday at Coburg House is a positive response to ‘Black Friday’ in aid of St Columba’s and Marie Curie Hospices and in fond memory of our Coburg colleagues who were cared for by them.

For one evening only we will be exhibiting and selling small art and craft works made by Coburg creatives and priced at £50 or less. All proceeds will be donated to these two charities. Please join us to raise a glass and raise some money for these two wonderful local charities!

Another of the exhibitors from Parallel's is Anna Gormezano Marks. Anna is a Visual Artist & Creative Consultant based in Leith, spending the past 10 years working across the creative, cultural and third sectors; passionate about supporting artists and creatives in their own projects. She is interested in structure and movement, language, human behavior and the drawn-line. Process based, her practice explores themes of illusion, accumulation, feminism, form and space. Loves a damn good scribble.

With the opening of Parallel's just a few days away, we'd love to introduce some of the artists involved in this collaborative exhibition!

Sarah Kwan Artist is an award winning freelance Artist and Illustrator based in Edinburgh. Her ongoing ‘East Meets West Series’, explores the positive connections between Western and Chinese culture in a fun and playful way - with humour, decorative patterns and pops of bright colour.

Sarah recalls with fondness joining a Creative Edinburgh art business growth course and meeting this group of talented women, who have supported each other throughout the development of their respective creative businesses over the last 5 years. “Even though we have all been on our own individual journeys, these talented friends have helped me in many ways - and I’ve found these connections so valuable in a profession where you often work alone. I’ve loved this opportunity to come together here, to celebrate where we’re all at today.”

Introducing 'Near and Far', an exhibition of paintings by Sarah Anderson- Scottish Landscape Painter and Nicola Coutts . These paintings feature rural Scottish landscapes and nature close-up, and the exhibition opens this coming Friday evening at Coburg House.

Sarah and Nicola have been friends for over 25 years and studied Fine Art at Edinburgh University/Edinburgh College of Art. Both of them were born in Newton Stewart in the southwest of Scotland, and grew up surrounded by the countryside.

This exhibition brings together a collection of paintings and works on paper which celebrate Scottish landscapes and flowers.

'Near and Far' is open Friday 3rd November, from 6-9pm, then Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th November from 11-4pm.

Misun Won Jewellery will also be showcasing work at this weekends Elements Festival. Misun's jewellery is inspired from Korean traditional wrapping cloth 'Jogakbo' and its scientific interpretation with fractal geometry. The dynamic rhythmical structures in her jewellery are created through a specialised ancient Korean gilding technique called 'Keumboo', and use 24ct gold.

Elements is held this weekend, 27th-29th October, at Lyon & Turnbull, Edinburgh.

Find Coburg creative Bryony Knox - Silversmith at Elements Festival this weekend, open from the 27th till 29th October. Bryony's work explores the combination of glass and contemporary chased silver, creating sculptural yet functional silverware with a twist.

Elements is presented by The Scottish Goldsmiths Trust and held at Lyon & Turnbull in Edinburgh, and is an annual celebration of the UK's most talented jewellers and silversmiths.

Simone Nolden will also be exhibiting at Elements Festival this coming weekend, showing work inspired by classical jewellery and elegant simplicity. The simplicity of Simone's designs however often belies a subtle re-interpretation or re-invention of a found object or traditional jewellery classic. Typical materials that she uses are gold, silver, precious stones and mixed media.

Discover new work from jeweller Jenny Deans Jewellery - whose exciting collection features pieces in Argentium Silver, made using granulation and filigree techniques. Jenny will be exhibiting at Elements Festival this coming weekend, 27th till 29th October at Lyon & Turnbull in Edinburgh, along with a host of other Coburg creatives! We will be sharing their work through the week so you can see the variety of skills each creative has.

Elements brings together the UK's finest jewellers and silversmiths, from functional and sculptural silver, to one-of-a-kind jewellery. A partnership project between Lyon & Turnbull Auctioneers and The Scottish Goldsmiths Trust, Elements celebrates the vast range of expert craftsmanship and innovative design of makers from across the UK.

'Four Stories', an exhibition by four artists, opens this evening at Coburg House.

Featuring works by:

Nicky Beckett Mixed Media Artist - a mixed media artist presenting the story of people at the edge of society. She uses photography, painting and a variety of media including collage to create layers to tell the story of each individual displayed. Fragments of conversation and thoughts are included as each piece is developed in collaboration with the subject.

Jacqui Higgs - the story she presents is a continuation of her process of making
drawings outside, to feed into her studio practice. She has recently been exploring coastal harbours and sea life on the Moray coast and in Caithness, where she has also been intrigued by the activities of the surfing community.

The story she presents examines the marine environment and its importance in the fight against climate change. She works mainly with screen print, collage and paint and her Sea Kelp hangings on tissue paper are intended to raise awareness of how conservation of this fragile ecosystem around our shores can purify the ocean environment and lead to rewilding
of our coastal areas.

- Mary is a micxed media artist who is telling a story of travel. From Arctic regions to tropical islands, Mary draws inspiration from icy landscapes under constant threat from Climate Change, and from the striking colours of rainforest plants.

Introducing our next amazing Shop Spotlight, held in the Coburg House Gallery and Shop, highlighting the creatives within the building. Next up, Sara Beevers Art Classes

Sara has had several One Woman Shows and taken part in many mixed exhibitions all over the U.K. Her pictures may be found in public collections here in Scotland and in private collections across the world. Recently Sara
has found inspiration in the flight of swifts and swallows soaring across the landscape. She has depicted their movement in mono prints and lino prints. Now, still using these printing techniques, her current work is an exploration of the landscape itself. As well as continually developing her own work she has
taught for almost thirty years in Edinburgh, helping many young students earn places at the top art schools, and inspiring older people to rekindle their talent and passion for art.

There's been a lovely mix of exhibitions in our gallery space the past few months, and we're continuing this with another collaborative exhibition - 'Paradigms', an exhibition of recent work from four visual artists based in Edinburgh.

Featuring work by Catherine Young, Hazel Brady, Jayne McIntyre, and Louise Todd. While all four have distinct worldviews, they share a common passion for their individual influences, subjects and approaches, ranging from figurative to abstract.

Step inside the Coburg shop to discover the enchanting world of jeweller and her Shop Spotlight.

Full of golden acorns and jewel-like glistening red apples, Manuela makes jewellery and pocket sculptures that stem from her love for the wild, symbols and storytelling and sees them as unique portable parables that the wearer can remember, be encouraged by and accompany them on their daily journey. She mainly uses precious metals and semi-precious stones, but also sometimes incorporates other materials. And you may even find your very own tiny castle or a mysterious small key that opens a big door 🍂

This week sees the opening of The British Art Fair at Saatchi Gallery in London. We are proud to annouce that Coburg artist David Schofield Artist will be exhibiting at the fair with the Portal Gallery London.

The British Art Fair is open from the 28th September, till 1st October.

Coburg sustainable jeweller, Eleanor Symms Art Jewellery , has been selected to exhibit in the next show at The Scottish Gallery - Autumnal Jewellery. Eleanor's contemporary pieces are created from found and reclaimed materials, and showcase bold, autumnal colours.

Autumnal Jewellery is open from 27th September through to the 28th October at The Scottish Gallery in Edinburgh.

We love it when local businesses and artists work together, and the recent installation of work by Coburg Artist Nicky Sanderson at Porto & Fi in Newhaven is a brilliant example!

Nicky's marine inspired prints will adorn the walls of Porto & Fi for the next few weeks, reflecting the views to the Firth of Forth from the cafe and bistro.

This weekend we host an enchanting exhibition from one of our newer members of the Coburg family - Mairi Brown 🎉

Mairi wants to give you a glimpse into her world of free machine embroidery, so you can see how she develops her unique pieces and creative inspiration.

In particular, how she stitches into stay and corsetry-based garments that were created for photo shoots over the last few years. Complementing this will be a range of soft furnishing and accessory pieces.

A unique exhibition opens this Friday evening at Coburg House Art Studios - we welcome an amazing group of 11 Sculptors and one painter, presenting 'Metamorphic'.

The sculptors met at the Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop and have been exhibiting and working together for several years, having shown at the Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop, Coburg Gallery and RGI, Kelly Gallery, Glasgow.

Featuring work by Arthur L. Forrest, Alejandro Lopez, Leona Roberts, Joyce Campbell, Sylvie Stainton, Tommy Thomson, John Young, Elaine Sosinka, Tom Kay, Katie Smith, Gordon C. Hunter, Ramsay Imlach.

Opening night is Friday 8th September from 6-9pm, and then 'Metamorphic' is open Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th September from 11-4pm.

Looking for the perfect way to refresh your drawing and painting skills, or learn a new technique? Join Sara Beevers Art Classes for a 10 week term, starting the week of 18th September. Held Monday mornings 10-12.30, or Thursday evenins from 7-9pm, the classes features an exciting mixture of subjects: still life, colour, portraiture, draped life, dancer, life, interiors, and technical methods. All levels of abilities are welcome, over 16 years old only.
