What if Escher walked the streets of Edinburgh?

Artist Chris Fenton answers this question with his depiction of familiar Edinburgh landmarks rising from fascinating architectural labyrinths, in truly unique compositions.

These enthralling works of perspective geometry join the Edinburgh Arts catalogue today. Eight new giclée images are now available for purchase, in a variety of sizes, and made-to-measure on paper or canvas.

From ice cream on the Meadows to ice skating in the Gardens, those of us who love Edinburgh know how it’s always overflowing with life, come sun or snow.

That vitality is captured with lively optimism and colour in Lynn Hanley’s new collection of cheerful gouache paintings, which we’re releasing today as cards, giclée prints in three sizes, and as made-to-measure prints available on paper or canvas.

Here’s Rob Hain on the inspiration for new print ‘Tigh an Truish (The Hoose o’ Troosers)’:

“On the island of Seil, south of Oban, is the Tigh an Truish, or colloquially, The Hoose o’ Troosers. Following the Jacobite rebellion in 1745, a law was passed by the English government outlawing the wearing of kilts on the Scottish mainland. Failure to comply with this law would result in a six-month custodial sentence for a first offence, and subsequently deportation to the colonies to work on King George’s plantations for seven years. At the Hoose o’ Troosers, highlanders were able to change out of their kilts and don the requisite trousers in order to visit the mainland.

“In my painting I have shown it in the present day. Endeavouring to take a more lighthearted approach, I hope it will bring a smile to your face.”

Summer is upon us and with it seven fantastic new Rob Hain paintings celebrating Scotland in the sunshine. Featuring kilts, kelpies and castles aplenty, this new collection is teeming with colour and stories aplenty.

The new collection will be released on Friday and is now available to order on our website, at our retail galleries, and in retailers across the UK.
