The SXC is excited to launch the dates for the 2025 season!
2025 is looking to be an amazing year for MTB racing in Scotland with some changes to the racing format to give every beginner to seasoned racer a great experience.
Highlights for next year include
- 2-day format with XC Short Track and dedicated “Little Rippers” racing for all under the age of 12’s on Saturday and with the big brother and sister XCO races on Sunday. This will help to reduce the congestion on course.
- 5 exciting well established race venues (4 races to count for the series)
- Up your game for round 2 as we combine with the British series at the famous Glentress trails!
- Introducing a Special stage: A timed stage within the lap on some of the more technical sections (compare your time with your pals)

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Gillian Stewart (Pratt), who lost her battle with breast cancer on Monday, August 26th.
Gillian was a dedicated and passionate cyclist, racing for the Leslie Bike Shop team for many years. Her love of cycling was evident to all who knew her.
Gillian volunteered at Meedies bike club, and dedicated a great deal of her time teaching bike skills to kids of all ages and was a great role model for them. And was recognised for her contribution and was awarded the Fife Sport and Leisure Senior Award.
Gillian's racing achievements were remarkable, including being crowned British Masters XC Champion, Scottish Masters XC Champion, World 24-hour Champion, and Strathpuffer solo female champion. She competed in various endurance races such as 10 Under the Ben, Relentless24, SXC races, cyclocross races, crit races, and enduro races, showcasing her versatility and passion for anything related to cycling.
Even after being diagnosed with secondary breast cancer in 2020, Gillian continued to make a positive impact by organising multiple charity events, including cycling events that raised over £15,000 for breast cancer charities.
Gillian’s strength, dedication, and love for the cycling community will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

And that’s a wrap on the 2024 MTB XC season 👋🏻
What a ride it has been!
Kicking off in March in a chilly Glasgow for Rd 1 of the series at Cathkin Braes. Thanks to Glasgow Riderz for the on the ground support for this event 💪🏻
We then returned to the SW corner for what ended up being the first round of the British Cycling National Cross Country Series - thanks to Galloway Hillbillies BC for being superb hosts for a great weekend in Kirroughtree Forest!
May came and despite a clash with the World Cup, we had big numbers at Lochore Meadows, a great event as always thanks to Andy and the team at Lochore Meadows Country Park!
June was a double header with a visit to Tarland Trails at the start of the month for a great course hosted by the Trail team and Deeside Thistle MTB before heading to another new venue at Chatelherault Country Park in Hamilton, thanks to the Clydesdale Colts for all their efforts in pulling together a great new track!
We finally secured a venue for our 5th round at short notice, so thanks to Falkirk Junior Bike Club for turning round Kinneil Estate at short notice to create a great new addition to the series.
And finally today, back to a venue that’s proved a real test for riders in recent seasons, so finally an opportunity to crown Scottish Champions. Thanks to Comrie Croft Bikes and in particular Digby for all your help in making the event possible! The amount of trail and ground prep today provided some great new spaces for the event village and moving around the venue too!
Creating fun race opportunities for the 8s/10s has been delivered by a great team of volunteers this year who’ve worked with local hosts to scope out courses and run exciting races on the day. Thanks to all involved in this!
We can’t go any further without thanking our hi vis heroes who’ve been essential to making every event happen this season. We truly couldn’t do it without you, so whether you did a half day today, or been at every round, every one of you help us to deliver fantastic race days. The marshals are ably supported by three fine folks who’ve performed the role of Chief Marshal this season: Judith, Ruth and Hubert - the latter two are moving on after several seasons with the SXC team - thanks both for your hours and hours of time dedicated to keeping riders safe 👌🏻
We also want to pay tribute to the blue-heroes - our Commissaires. All volunteers, they are always very generous with their time to provide advice and guidance to us as organisers, and we’re so grateful to all of them that have been at events this season 👏🏻
And to the riders - thanks for taking to start line across Scotland - we’ve seen 100s of you at our 7 events this season so thanks to you all for supporting vibrant and thrilling race days - see you next year?!
So as you may have picked up, our core SXC team is getting a little smaller, as we say goodbye and farewell to Ruth, Hubert and Fraser - we’re on the lookout for others to come and join the SXC Committee, working alongside Kate, Duncan, Coops, Nadine and Judith - drop us a message to find out more.
Lastly - if you can spare a few mins - can you fill in our 2024 season survey as we reflect on 2024 and look ahead to 2025?

*********** WE NEED YOU AS A PRIORITY ***************
We had hoped not to have to post this again but at this moment in time we are still short of volunteers to run the races on Sunday.
We will be looking to address this ongoing issue for next year, but for now our concern is this last event. The afternoon races are the most at risk.
Please bring a friend, a family member, someone who is thinking about racing XC but not made that transition yet, someone who has raced all series but not opted to enter the Championship, even if they have never marshalled before we can accommodate them.

**** THINGS TO NOTE ****
Please bring your BC Membership cards to sign on. Without it we cannot register you. If you don't have a photo on your card (yet) please some form of photographic ID. (or have a copy saved on your phone).
All U18's require an adult (Parent, Guardian, nominated responsible adult) present with them at registration to sign on. This is in relation to the Rider Declaration which all participants agree to abide by, and the adult has to agree to that for the child.
