Police Scotland Academic Challenge Sessions
The police are running sessions to gain insight into the BAME experiences of Violence Against Women and Girls, asking academics and participants to share their expertise.
Email answers to [email protected]
Questions:
- To what extent do language and socio-economic factors act as a barrier to BAME women and girls reporting crimes and accessing vital services. What measures could Police Scotland implement to remove these ‘barriers’?
- In the context of VAWG, how well do you think Police Scotland understands the demands of policing a multi-cultural society and the needs of BAME women and girls? Are you aware of any changes in strategy in Police Scotland in recent years and their associated impact?
- What are the emerging themes, areas of focus, and risks, that the police should consider with regard to understanding violent experiences suffered by women and girls with BAME identities?
- If we consider a victim-survivors end-to-end journey, at which stages do you think the police could provide additional support or develop new approaches? (e.g. contact with victim, general support methods, aftercare etc.)
- How can Police Scotland improve their overall accessibility, communication and visibility with BAME women and girls?
- Is the recent reporting on the cultural issues within policing (as they relate specifically to VAWG and sexism and misogyny), having a specific impact on the trust and confidence BAME women and girls have in policing
