Great opportunity for wee scientists!!

We are looking for 7 to 11 year old participants to participate in our study. We are investigating how different types of landscapes may affect children’s attention.

Your child will be looking at several landscape photographs and playing a fun computer game, while wearing an EEG cap. This technique is non-invasive and totally safe. They will also answer a few questions on paper after the experiment.

As a parent or legal guardian, you will be asked to complete a questionnaire about your child’s exposure to nature, which will take approximately 5 minutes.

The session will approximately take 1h and 30 min, at the University of Edinburgh in the Dugald Stewart Building.

In order to show our appreciation for your help, we would like to award £15 upon completion of the study.

Additionally, your child will receive a little prize!

You will be shown images of characters completing different actions. Your task will be to silently gesture these events to your child. We are looking for wee scientists based in and around Edinburgh to take part in a two year research study on how children's attention can impact learning and how this develops across childhood!

✨We are looking for wee scientists age 5-6, 8-9, & 11-12 years old!✨

Your wee scientist will get to visit our Wee Science lab twice a year for the next two years to play child-friendly computer games, while wearing an EEG cap! (a safe non-invasive research method). Each session will take place in the Dugald Stewart Building, University of Edinburgh.

Your child will receive a small gift to thank them for contributing to scientific research. We will also offer £30 per year of the study to compensate you for your time (distributed as £10 for session one and £20 for session two).

We are looking for adult participants, aged from 18 and above, to participate in our study. We are investigating how different types of landscapes may affect adults’ attention.

You will be looking at several landscape photographs and undergo a computer activity, while wearing an EEG cap. This technique helps tracking and recording your brain activity in a totally safe and non-invasive way.

You will be also asked to complete a questionnaire about the photographs you have viewed, and about your exposure to certain environments which will take no more than 10 minutes.

Linguistics study for English-speaking 5-11-year-olds

Our study explores how children make guesses about what words will come next in a sentence and how those guesses change as they grow up.

There are two parts: In the first, your child will be asked to finish simple sentences, and in the second they will listen to a simple story and say whether they think the situations that are talked about have changed from before or not.
