We're looking for volunteers to serve up good food in good company and join us in building stronger communities through food and fun.

For those that live alone, the chance to meet with others and have a chat with some friendly faces has an enormous impact on their lives. The current cost of living crisis is hitting everyone hard and the ability to have a freshly cooked meal and a cup of tea is a real help. I am grateful now to be able help my community. At our Green Skills Centre, we practice organic and regenerative growing methods 🌱
Rory shares why our approach to growing is not only beneficial for the produce, but also the environment, society and more.
"Using rotation, companion planting and soil-building techniques we actively grow and enhance the soils fertility. By feeding the microbiome in this way our growing areas are actively being enriched year-on-year, leading to greater organic and mineral content in the ground. And therefore, happier plants and more nutritious food!
When you choose Cyrenians Organic Fruit and Veg Bags you not only support our mission to address the causes and consequences of homelessness. You also help us to build resilience in the food system by supporting small scale, local, regenerative farms - helping us capture carbon through building soil and preventing the harmful use of toxins in the food industry."

Today is World Su***de Prevention Day - a day to start the conversation, raise awareness and end the stigma.
Keep in Touch (KIT) is Cyrenians unique pilot service offering alternative community-based, one-on-one support with the goal of ensuring that participants feel supported, have someone to talk to, feel more socially connected within their local community and that their mental health improves whilst they are waiting on secondary care appointments.
Designed to bridge the long time it can take to receive specialist support like psychology and psychiatry, KIT can provide people with ways to manage and reduce su***de ideation, take control and build resilience whilst also helping them to address wider issues, life events and inequalities like isolation, loneliness, financial hardship, grief and loss which have contributed to reaching a point of despair.
Starting the conversation is tough, but reaching out can make a real difference.

In parliament today Shona Robison said that ‘yet more austerity is not the answer’ but warned of cuts to come.

Every third Wednesday, our Cyrenians OPAL - Opportunities for Active Lives Bathgate office hosts OPAL Voices, a lively singing group for men and women. Led by our talented volunteers, Izzy and Elaine, this group offers more than just music—it's a boost for both health and happiness.
Singing in a group like OPAL Voices is known to reduce stress, improve lung function, and foster a sense of community. It’s a fun, inclusive environment where everyone is encouraged to join in, regardless of experience. Everyone seems to have a good time and the group is expanding through positive word of mouth!
One of our group said after the group, delighted – “When I told my daughter I was going to a singing group she said “I hope you are not going to sing” but here I am, singing away!”

Yesterday we were delighted to welcome back Edinburgh author Alexander McCall Smith to our Community Hospital Garden to treat patients and volunteers to a special book reading.
Yesterday new statistics revealed a 12% rise in drug deaths in Scotland in the last year.
Ewan Aitken has expressed Cyrenians concerns over the recent statistics, emphasising the urgent need to take action to reverse these concerning trends.
Cyrenians know that everyone's path is different - that's why our team are sharing their own journeys to working and volunteering with Cyrenians to prove that there really is .
Today, Phillip shares his path to making a difference in his community and building his skills and confidence.
"As a young adult with autism, Phillip joined Cyrenians Young Adult Service (YAS) in the hope of developing his interpersonal skills & finding something meaningful to do with his time.
YAS offers a dynamic 10-week personal development programme that lets young people aged for 16-24 living in the Falkirk area set their own goals, become more active in their community, make friends and build up their skills, resilience and confidence in a safe, inclusive and fun environment.
Since joining YAS, Phillip has achieved this and more – he has secured 3 volunteering positions (one within Cyrenians!), his confidence and self-esteem has grown massively, and he hopes to use his newfound skills and confidence to facilitate his own art classes for individuals with disabilities."
