I help people who are overwhelmed by interior design with a step-by-step plan to create a home you c
I’ve never done a BUT today is and I’m stepping out of my comfort zone to share a bit of my own journey.
Like countless others, I have and probably always will wrestle with managing my mental wellbeing.
The question of why some people suffer while others don’t? Why some people move on from a dark place while others stay stuck? …I have absolutely no idea!
But what I’ve learned from my internal struggles - anxiety, self-doubt, fear of failure - is that they have a way of shaping me positively, after I get out of my own way, which, yes, sometimes takes longer than I'd like to admit.
Today I’m so thankful that I have people in my life that deeply care about me and help me through…I know not everyone has access to that kind of love and stability and for that, I consider myself incredibly fortunate.
To all those out there who, like me, find themselves going back and forth with their own mental struggles, please know this: you’re not alone.
Sometimes all we can do is take comfort in knowing that each day is a fresh opportunity to care for our mental wellbeing.
ps - it's okay to ask for help (recommended actually!), to lean on others, and to believe that within the struggle itself, there's strength.
pps - can highly recommend a dog too!

These kind words remind me that creating a home isn't just about furniture and colours; it's about understanding everyone’s tastes and blending them into a shared vision.
Thank you, Jane for letting us help you with your home 🥰
Anyone else ready to merge styles and create a space that reflects both of your personalities?

"Sometimes all you need for exceptional results is average effort repeated for an above-average amount of time." - James Clear
This is for all you perfectionists out there…the ones who agonise over every detail and fear mistakes more than anything else 🙋♀️
When it comes to designing my own home and guiding my Interior Design Navigator clients, perfection is a myth. It's all about the progress. You just need to start and keep working in small consistent chunks.
It’s NEVER perfect, mistakes will get made and learnt along the way 🤪
So my encouragement for you is this: if you found the home you want to make yours - keep showing up (just a little bit each week) to turn it into the home you’ve always wanted.
You’ve got this!! 🙌

They talk about what they struggled with before working me, how they found the process of working with me and what they think about the end result…
And we’re loving the end result of Anna’s bathroom! So it’s a huge bonus to hear she found the process fun and relaxed (just the way it should be 🥰)!

Thinking about a renovation? 👷♀️
Here’s what it involves:
✔ Determining what you want to achieve with the renovation (improving functionality, increasing property value, and/or enhancing aesthetics)
✔ Setting a realistic budget (there’s no point in paying for an architect to draw up plans for you only to realise the costs will be completely out of your budget)
✔ Understanding of planning permissions and building regulations (these are the legal and technical parts of renovating that you want to have a basic understanding of)
✔ Hiring a builder or contractors (there is a list of things that will help you get an accurate and timely quote from your builder or contractors)
AND I have a section in my ebook for you guys that has this process laid out for you 🤩
DM me the word RENOVATION if you would like a FREE copy of our renovation guidelines section 🙌

I have to SHARE this unsolicited message from Simone...read to the end and let me know if any of her past struggles sound familiar ⤵
"I am delighted to tell you that I have devoted some time and attention to reading your book cover to cover (twice!) and my husband and I have worked through the “exercises” in the book. I feel like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders... I always felt we were on completely different pages about home decor and NOW I understand why. Your book should actually be marketed as a self help / psychology book as it has tapped into so many feelings and emotions attached to our home…
I am feeling incredibly motivated and not at all daunted by the prospect of our projects now. Honestly I was the least interested person in making my house a home ….. until I read your book. You have given us not only a framework to work within, but (this might sound crazy) also the language to use to talk about our plans and ideas - it’s turned something I was afraid of into something really exciting. I have worked through the rooms we want to update / change and have solid space plans and colour schemes mapped out for those. I also want to write a testimonial for the book!"

Before you buy anything...
👉 Take a screenshot (or photo) of it.
👉 Open up your Google app or go the Google website.
👉 You will see a camera icon in the search bar. Click that and add your screenshot.
👉 Now scroll and compare your item from different retailers...the price differences can be crazy!
This is an easy thing to do that could save you money...will you try it?!
Make sure you save this post for later so you remember what to do!! ⤵

The perfect chunk of time to design your newly purchased home isn’t coming 😱
The problem is most homeowners find reasons to wait and consequently live in a home they’re not excited about for months/years/decades even 🤯
Maybe they’re waiting until the kids are older, or they’ve tried in the past and haven’t gotten it right, or they are waiting to do an extension...
But if we learned anything during the covid lockdowns and restrictions, living in a home that is ‘waiting’ to get done can really hang over your head as one more thing to do, someday, and even become a source of unhappiness 😬
I KNOW everyone has the ability to create a warm and welcoming home. I want people to see home design as not only something they need but also something they start as soon as they purchase a house...
A nicely designed home isn’t just for wealthy or ‘creative people’ but for anyone with a bit of know how 🤩
I mean, how many new homeowners have we seen pop on instagram with homes they love to show off?! Maybe it’s your style, maybe it’s not. Maybe the design is all wrong, maybe it’s great…it doesn’t matter. What matters is, those homeowners LOVE their home and want to show it off. They feel good in it…they feel a real sense of accomplishment and joy for creating it 🙌
It isn’t about your home becoming magazine or instagram worthy right away…you just need to get to a place where you don’t feel embarrassed when friends and family are around. You can fine tune from there...
I’m saying it, everyone should feel good in their homes…it’s our sanctuary, our warm hug on a cold day, our place where we can just be ourselves…doesn’t it deserve a little of our attention to make it a place we love? ❤

"I am genuinely excited about this journey and cannot wait to start." - words from our newest client perfectly capture the essence of WHY we love what we do.
Her excitement isn't just about getting some professional help; it's about creating a home that reflects her unique style, needs, and dreams (kinda cheesy but true!). PLUS it’s exciting to turn a vision into reality!!
And that's exactly why we're here – to be a part of your design journey, to share in the excitement, and to turn your dreams into beautifully designed rooms.
Together, we'll make your home a place that makes you feel excited, happy and proud all at once.
Thank you, Deborah, for letting us be a part of your journey.
Let's create something amazing! 🙌

Who needs to hear THIS today?
Don’t sweat the small stuff until it’s time…read this until the end ⤵
I was working with a client last week and she was worried about what the finishing touches would be and where they would go BEFORE we finalised the room layout and furniture items.
There are 2 reasons people focus on the room details first:
1️⃣ The finishing touches (or styling) in a room are fun to purchase. We get to express our personality and design style through these items. So of course homeowners are going to want to focus on this fun aspect of interior design over planning out a room layout.
2️⃣ It’s manageable. It’s much easier to focus on your sofa cushion decision than it is to focus on the actual sofa size and type.
The problem is starting with the small details in a room can lead to design fatigue as you’re trying to think about cushions, for example then wondering if the cushions you like are going to work with the sofa you haven’t chosen, the paint colours that aren’t decided on, the rug, the armchairs, etc… and NOW you’re overwhelmed 🤯
So instead of just highlighting the problem, I can HELP you get better at making decisions in the right order to prevent this.
Join our free Facebook group ‘From Vision to Reality’ (link in my bio ) OR just comment below and I’ll get you an invite ASAP 🤩
ps - once you're in the group - send me a message and I'll send you a free training to help you get started with your home design!

Over the weekend I got 3 emails asking how to join my Interior Design Navigator programme…which doesn’t usually happen and it got me thinking...
2024 is just over 4 months away 🤯
I wonder if these homeowners are thinking it’s finally time to get on with it…
Time to get aligned with their home design goals and be brave enough to make new choices!
And time to get some help so this isn’t still hanging over their heads as 'one more thing to do someday' in 2024 🤪
4 months is still a lot of time to make significant changes…and I’m ALL in to help you out 🙌
Send me a message to find out how to get started and make the most of your home design efforts in 2023!

Believe it or not, confidence is the biggest thing my clients struggle with when it comes to designing their home. But confidence isn't something you magically have; it's something you build through action and experience.
Think about learning to ride a bike. You can read about it, study cycling magazines, and admire bikes in shops, but it's only when you actually get on that bike and pedal that you start building real confidence. It's the falls, the tries, the successes, and the continuous learning that shapes your ability.
Designing your home is no different. You can gather inspiration, pin ideas, and talk about it endlessly, but true confidence comes from DOING. Just like you had someone there to support you while learning to ride, remember I'm HERE to provide that same kind of support for your design journey.
So, let's ditch the doubt and embrace the process. Confidence isn't a prerequisite; it's the REWARD for taking those first steps and committing to the journey. 💪🏡

I often get asked about this cabinet so if you're up for a bit of DIY, here's what it is -
✔ An Havsta storage combination with glass doors
✔ Painted in Bancha
✔ A hardware swap to
✔ The back lined with wallpaper
✔ And a dog to pull it all together 😉
I'm curious, have you tried any 'Ikea hacks'?
“I wish I had found you a year ago.” - Nikki
Nikki has been working with an architect for over a year to extend the back of her home and create a larger kitchen, dining, living room area.
She was ready to send her extension plans to tender (which means getting quotes from builders).
BUT she wasn’t sure about the plans so she signed up to work with me.
On Friday we had a space planning call and reviewed 3 options including what each option would look and function like with furniture and a new kitchen layout.
✔ We looked at doing the extension as per the existing plans…
✔ We looked at doing the extension as per the plans BUT removing an internal wall between 2 existing rooms to create a better space for a living area…
✔ We looked at not doing the extension at all and removing an internal wall instead…
She’s leaning towards skipping the extension all together and removing an internal wall instead because doing so will work for all of her needs AND give her a beautiful space with more much money left over to spend on designing the rooms.
Now she’s a bit annoyed she spent so much time and said, “I wish I had found you a year ago.”
AND so do I…but I’m also glad she didn’t go forward with the extension plans as they were and THEN try to get my help after everything was built and it’s too late to move windows, doors, kitchen layouts, and walls to accommodate her needs.
👉 Get in touch if you're not 100% sure about your renovation plans 👈

I leave you with that quote and this cosy corner as we head into the weekend.
Happy Friday/Happy Designing. x
One of my secret ingredients to designing your own home is getting rid of what you think you’re supposed to do. AND then step into what you actually need and want from your home.
A lot of times, we get sucked into finding the most popular style, the perfect paint colour, or statement everything because of external forces. This could be from popular ideas on Pinterest, what worked in a previous home, or even what our friends tell us we should do.
From my experience, when we get stuck in one of these traps, we will stop making progress and we feel like there is something “more” or something else we should be doing. This usually means we need a re-adjustment back to what we were doing before we got derailed.
And this adjustment is so freeing, brings a new energy, and allows you to get back on track with your home design!
Are you ready for a FREE video series on what I would do if I were stuck with my home design? just drop a comment below.👇
Got this message yesterday from a homeowner that joined our Interior Design Navigator programme 🥰
Still on the fence about working with us?
Well, if you’re like me it’s because you’re worried if this is really for you…
So ...I’ve got your back! 😉
I’ve interviewed several clients and did they feel ready to invest time and money with me?
Not always, and while they were excited to get professional help, they were also scared (“what if this person doesn’t help me?”) 😬
But, they did it anyway and you can listen to Kirsty talk about talk it (head over to Instagram, link in my bio )
𝘚𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 ‘𝘪𝘯𝘷𝘢𝘭𝘶𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦’... 𝘝𝘪𝘤 𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘴 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘰𝘧 𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘧𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘴 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘮𝘦... 𝘚𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘢 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴𝘯’𝘵 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭 𝘦𝘮𝘣𝘢𝘳𝘳𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘯𝘺𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦... 𝘙𝘩𝘰𝘯𝘢 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢 𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘦𝘳 𝘪𝘯 𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘱𝘰𝘤𝘬𝘦𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘭𝘢𝘳𝘨𝘦 𝘩𝘰𝘮𝘦...
SO, the question isn’t if I can help you or not...

From Zero Interiors to Hero Interiors 🏆
Video 3 is ready to go!
https://www.carriecottondesign.com/personaliseddesignhelp
Watch as our clients from all over the UK share their experiences, from starting their work with me to where they’re at now…
Saving HUGE amounts of time, feeling confident and excited about their design choices…and buckle up! even enjoying the process.
The thing I LOVE about the Interior Design Navigator process is that these homeowners started out the same way -
They desperately wanted to create a warm and welcoming home but were directionless and without any guidance.
Comparing that to where they are now and how they continue to work through their entire home design makes me so happy to share this with you.
A) These guys definitely STRUGGLED in the beginning stages of creating a beautiful home.
B) But their DETERMINATION and hard work allowed them to push through and make it happen for themselves and their families.
Is it cheesy to say, I'm so proud of what we've accomplished?!

And gave myself a mini panic attack with the amount of emails with questions :)
