New friction stays (hinges) fitted to 4 windows in Downham Market...no more drafty gaps.

Doing loads of these at the moment, just as the workshop gets cold too ! The lock is in the region of 200 years old and is off to live in Downham Market. The key took several hours to produce.

Customer bought me a broken key and I repaired it by brazing with silver solder, warmed up my workshop briefly 😄

Burglaries overall are continuing to decrease, however there is typically an increase in reported break-ins during autumn and winter.

We recorded 600 burglaries across Cambridgeshire between October last year (2020) and March this year, a 44 percent drop compared to the same period in 2019-2020 (1,071). A total of 53 of these were in East Cambridgeshire, compared to 80 the previous year.

While the figure dropped a further 21 percent between April and September this year, from 642 down to 510 overall, (and from 49 to 36 in East Cambridgeshire), we are warning the public to increase precautions as the nights start to draw in.

I do like the traditional stuff, this antique Danish chest had to be picked open after the key got locked inside.

Free tip: cleaning and regular oiling of your windows friction stays (hinges) will add years to them and improve operation. If the window is too loose or stiff, adjusting the tiny screw in the plastic block will help (arrow). N:B righty tighty, lefty loosey 😀 There is a screw for this on each hinge.
