🇹🇷 Today I head off for our first family holiday of the year for May half term!
A week in Turkey, with my husband and kids, my 83 year old Dad, and my sister and her kids too so this one needed to tick a lot of boxes to cater for us all!

What Are We Doing?

Under Government directive – all large UK airports are required to meet the new (Standard 3) screening regulations by the 1st of June. Birmingham Airport has invested £60m in a new security hall and scanning equipment to meet this requirement. This major construction project, which has been ongoing for 18 months, is building for our future with the construction of a new simpler and streamlined security area for our customers.

How are the Changes Impacting Our Customers?

The building works within the terminal mean we have lost areas where customers would previously have queued for security, mainly our upstairs space. This has resulted in the majority of our security queuing area being downstairs, this is our new normal until the building works are completed.

The transition from our existing security to our new security area can be confusing to our customers.

Just a heads up that I am now out of the office having a short break at the 5* Hilton Dalaman Sarigerme in Turkey!

I was actually at the hotel next door about 15 years ago when this hotel was being built and vowed to get there one day- I didn’t think ot would take this long!

With 12 bars serving a range of local, international and premium drinks& 11 restaurants including 2 buffet restaurants and 6 à la carte restaurants, serving a range of Turkish, Italian, international, Indian, Chinese and Japanese cuisine I will be spoilt for choice!!

It’s the ultimate in 5* all inclusive on the beachfront, with 2 Aquaparks, 7 pools , a luxurious spa, excellent kids facilities and the option to upgrade to swim up rooms. I i will be sure to post some pics on my return! Added bonus is that’s it’s a short 20 Minute transfer which you don’t always get in Turkey!

🛑 EU passport rule #1
The first new rule for travel to the EU is that UK passports must be no more than 10 years old at the date of arrival in the EU.

This is important because, before 2018, adults who renewed their passports before they had expired would have had up to nine unused months added to their new passports. This means that some passports are valid for up to 10 years and nine months, but British citizens can no longer enter the EU with a passport that’s more than 10 years old.

Some people are concerned that if their passport was issued for more than 10 years it won’t be valid for travel to the EU, but this isn’t the case. It’s okay to travel to the EU with a passport that was issued for any length of time, as long as it is no more than 10 years old at the date of entry.

Children aren’t affected by the 10-year-rule since children’s passports are renewed every five years.

🛑 EU passport rule #2
Passports must be valid for at least another three months on the intended date of departure from the EU. A few EU countries require six months validity so it’s important to check country-specific advice with the Foreign Office.

🛑 In short…for travel to the EU you need to check both the issue date to make sure that it will be no more than 10 years old at the time of entry to the EU, and the expiry date to make sure there will be at least three months left at the end of the trip.

I’m getting so far behind with my own holiday posts so while it’s still fresh in my mind here is my recent trip to New York! 🍎

I have just had 4 nights there, and although I’ve been a few times before I still managed to do/see lots of new things this time round, including a 4 hour visit to the Emergency room! I went with a friend and our 16 year old daughters who are huge Gossip Girl fans, and loved it 😍

We walked over 50 miles in 4 days, which gave us the perfect excuse to eat some amazing food too!

This weekend 11 out of 14 (a miracle in itself!) of the All About Travel team are having our annual get together for 2 nights at the Melia Costa Del Sol!!

This was actually easier than getting somewhere central for us all to meet and worked out better value too! A short flight from Birmingham and a 15 minute transfer from the airport gives us 48 hours in the sun ☀️ (Temps of 22 degrees will do me in Jan!)
