Earlier this year, Shopify announced the deprecation of checkout.liquid for in-checkout pages. Retailers were advised to upgrade to Checkout Extensibility by 13th August 2024.
If you've missed this deadline, existing liquid customisations on these pages are now locked and uneditable. You may also notice that fraud indicators are no longer available and payment gateways have been locked.
Come 6th January 2025, Shopify will begin auto-upgrading checkouts that continue to use liquid. Pages will lose all their liquid customisations.

Our Story
Swanky was born in the Spring of 2010 when a PhD student and an independent systems designer decided to create an agency around what they loved doing most; building and designing websites to look stunning and perform brilliantly.
At that point, neither Andrew McSweeney or Dan McIvor realised that their small startup would become a leading ecommerce design, development and optimisation agency. Both entrepreneurs were new to the world of business management and were simply excited to take on each and every design project that came their way.
Initially, they learned some tough lessons in terms of which staff to employ and how to finance their business. At times, it was touch and go whether the Swanky brand could even continue!
The ambitious team of two had to continuously learn and adapt, soon doubling in size as they employed their accomplished Creative Director Matt Giles in the Summer of 2011 and their skilled Chief Technical Officer Dave Shaw shortly afterwards.
As the agency continued to grow and accumulate more enthusiastic and experienced staff members, it became clear what the team were truly passionate about – the world of ecommerce. They had a real love for helping brands unlock their business’ full potential by building them websites that turned browsers into buyers!
Then came Swanky’s first landmark project – a full website build and migration from Magento for Golden Bear Toys, the official toy mascot provider for the 2012 Olympics, in London that year. During this exciting operation, the team grew to love the flexibility and ease of management that Shopify offered them and soon decided it was their favourite platform on the market - and one which they would continue building upon to enable their clients’ ecommerce dreams to come true. That same year, after completing a few more hugely successful Shopify builds, the team were delighted to be awarded the title of Shopify Experts… but they didn’t stop there!
Now that the ball was well and truly rolling, Swanky went on to help hundreds of businesses of all shapes and sizes with their custom website builds, designs and on-site optimisation, constantly learning, improving and coming up with creative solutions for their clients’ problems – such as bespoke multi-cart and multi-currency functionality - to help them achieve global ecommerce success.
