Yay! Finally an episode on a mainstream podcast all about chronic pain that is actually GOLD! Dr O'Sullivan is such a fantastic researcher and Physio and his information should be shared and heard by as many people as possible.
I urge you to listen! You may recognise a lot of how we approach pain and rehab at Quay Kinetics Physio in this episode too as its definitely how we try to help people.🤩
Here's to HOPE!
#472 How to Break Free from Chronic Pain and Reclaim Your Life with Professor Peter O'Sullivan Did you know that chronic pain affects 1 in 5 people globally and is the leading cause of disability? Whether it's persistent back pain, recurring neck issues,
ELEVEN YEARS this week! 😱🥳
When I started Quay Kinetics’s Physio, the plan was to give the kind of care, treatment and quality that I felt I wasn’t always freely able to do in my previous NHS jobs. I really do support the NHS but a huge organisation like that can’t always give the extra ✨ that I think people in pain or suffering with and injury deserve.
Some of you have been supporting me (and then us) since the very beginning. Thank you for coming back, referring your friends and family to us and generally making QKP a wonderful place to work. I really feel like I’ve grown as a physio and business owner over the years and am still learning but now have a gang of epic fellow physios alongside me too.
And thanks to the for always supporting what we aim to do. ❤️
Some VERY exciting things are coming soon too so keep your eyes peeled for updates. 👀👀
And I’d love to hear in the comments below if you came along for physio with me way back in 2013?
Thanks again!
Jen, Danielle, Amy, Carmen, Matt (and Claire on maternity 🙂🙂)
Hello 👋
Lots of people have are finding that they are struggling a bit more with their routine over the summer. We totally get it! It's hard to stay motivated to do your stretches and prescribed physio exercises when you're on holiday, or you're dealing with having the kids home over the school holidays. And everyone needs a bit of 'down-time' too!
BUT...can you think about why you need to work on your health, or your injury, or your pain?
If you re-started your rehab, could you envisage the other side of your injury or pain recovery? Imagine NOT having to stop doing the things you love or avoid certain activities because you'd pushed yourself to do the hard things?
So here is the little nudge you didn't know you needed. You can do hard things. You can heal. You can recover. You need to do the work, have patience and keep going.
Book in to see one of our Chartered Physiotherapists if you feel you've lost your way and need someone to support your recovery this week. ⬇️

An ask for help 🫤

We don’t have a big marketing budget and things are tough out there for small businesses, so if there are ways that you can help us get in front of people we may be able to help, we’d be SO grateful 🙏🏻

The anti-inflammatory effects of exercise on autoimmune diseases: A 20-year systematic review
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38341137/
👉 Overall, the evidence suggests that inflammation-related markers such as C-reactive protein, interleukin 6, and tumor necrosis factor α were reduced by regular exercise interventions. Regular exercise interventions combined with multiple exercise modes were associated with greater benefits.
👉From an anti-inflammatory perspective, regular interventions that combine multiple exercise modes individualized to patients with autoimmune diseases are recommended. Most patients with autoimmune disease can safely adopt moderate exercise training protocols, but changes in inflammation biomarkers will be modest at best. Regular exercise training, especially when combined with aerobic training (AT) and resistance training (RT) , is an effective countermeasure to autoimmune diseases.

At first, when I read this headline I felt quite shocked. Obviously it felt threatening as nobody wants AI to take their job! However, having read the whole thing, perhaps I won’t be out of a job? AI is certainly here to stay. But people still need people.
I think we should embrace the opportunities it can bring whilst still keeping a healthy awareness of the downsides. Whilst the NHS has to deal with rising waiting lists, access to Physiotherapy is harder than ever. In our clinic we do what the robots can’t. Bring the human element to the clinical reasoning and the human touch. AI has its place, but I think most people don’t want to lose the human element of individualised healthcare. What do you think?
