Folkestone Academy Performing Arts

It is with a heavy heart that I hand over my keys today and leave Folkestone Academy after 13 years. Words cannot express how much I am going to miss this school, my colleagues, my pupils. To my dancers past and present, I miss you all and wish you all the best for the future. I have been thoroughly spoilt today, cried lots, such beautiful messages of thanks and gifts. Thank you to everyone who has helped me along the way, being your teacher has been a blessing, I am the lucky one. Thank you - Mrs Cullen 💫

What a busy term for our dancers! Y10 have completed their first written exam, Y11 have been completing their mock exam and dancers across all year groups have been learning brilliant routines during lunch time clubs. Have a well deserved rest as we have more exams and 2 dance shows to prepare for next year! Merry Christmas! 🎄

Today dancers from Canterbury Academy came to lead a workshop for our KS4 dancers. They learnt a jazz, contemporary and street routine which they performed to our visitors. It was a fun energetic session and all of our dancers were brilliant, well done 🤩

What an amazing open evening last night, the whole school was buzzing! Well done to our dancers who created and performed dances as well as interacting brilliantly with all of the visitors 🤩

Lunch time dance club today celebrating Mrs Cullens birthday! “Thank you for all my cards, presents and decorations. Also for performing all dances past and present, amazing memories and and I cannot wait to create more dances with you all!” Mrs Cullen 🥳

The Turner Schools Trust is deeply saddened by the death of Her Majesty The Queen.

Her decades of loyalty and service to her people, her country and the Commonwealth are unrivalled and was an extraordinary example for us all in serving her community. She was an amazing role model for all at Turner Schools.

She will be greatly missed.

**Turner Schools Community Day 2022**
Today's the day!! We have every pupil in the Turner Schools Trust taking part in one of over 50 activities in our local community!

Our year 7, 8, 9 and 10 dancers came together to create and perform a commercial dance for the end of year assemblies. They were absolutely amazing and I cannot wait to continue working with this group in September, well done girls 🌟 - Mrs Cullen

Yesterday our year 7 dancers performed at the Turner Trust Art Exhibition. They choreographed a beautiful contemporary dance which they performed to 4 audiences, well done girls 👏

An emotional day saying goodbye to my year 11 dancers. I received a beautiful book of memories which made me cry! I am proud of all of you and what you have achieved, keep in touch - Mrs Cullen 💫

**Good News Alert**
We are so excited to announce to our wider community, Folkestone Academy has been awarded an overall Ofsted ‘Good’ rating with ‘Outstanding’ in Leadership and Management.
This is the first time in the school’s history it has been awarded an Ofsted ‘Good’ in its own entity.

Wow! Addiction Dance Show was amazing! Here is a small glimpse of the brilliant performances by Folkestone Academy dancers and all of the award winners, well done everyone, have a well deserved half term - Mrs Cullen 🌟

KS3 dancers have been getting ready for Addiction Dance Show next week! They will be dancing to ‘Can you feel the love tonight’ from the musical ’The Lion King’. They have worked really hard today, well done dancers 👏

Yesterday KS3 pupils took part in a contemporary dance workshop with Map Dance Company where they learnt repertoire from their spring tour. In the evening they were joined by KS4 pupils as they went to the Quarterhouse Theatre to watch the spring tour made up of 4 professional works. All of the dancers thoroughly enjoyed the performance and worked really hard in the workshop, well done!

**Breaking Waves 2022**

Celebrating raising £3,000 from the Breaking Waves Dance Showcase and dancers from the show proudly handing this over to 105.9 Academy FM Folkestone 😁

To celebrate International Dance Day today, all pupils have enjoyed a presentation this week learning about the event and had the opportunity to watch performances from Breaking Waves 2022. Dancers have enjoyed learning about the origins of dance styles as well as learning new styles.

Wow! What an AMAZING show Breaking Waves 2022 was 🤩 Our dancers were absolutely brilliant as well as all of the other groups involved. Thank you to everyone that helped me make the show possible. So proud of my dancers, have a lovely Easter Break - Mrs Cullen 👏👌😁

We have a sell-out show!! Breaking Waves is on tomorrow evening at The Leas Cliff Hall. Folkestone Academy are performing alongside their trust schools as well as 13 other groups, it is set to be a spectacular evening, good luck to everyone performing, you will be amazing 🌟

We are so excited to announce that Academy pupil, Tomas Sprostranov has been selected as a Festival Producer for this summer's Creative Folkestone music festival in July.

Last week our year 11s performed 12 dances to Martello Primary. This was a fantastic live performance experience for the primary pupils and good practice for the year 11s ready for Breaking Waves taking place at The Leas Cliff Hall on Thursday 31st March and Addiction Dance Show taking place in the Academy Theatre on Thursday 26th May 2022 🌟

Yesterday our year 11 dancers performed to year 6s from Martello Primary 🌟 Afterwards our two year 11 assistant choreographers taught them a phrase from one of their dances. Well done to everyone involved you were fantastic!
