First Medic
Small family business based in Frome to deliver First Aid courses to businesses and individuals.
Good morning Frome!
Last week we came upon a person in distress and had to call an ambulance.
Our knowledge of First Aid in this situation enabled us to maintain stability and promote recovery until the ambulance arrived.
If you would like to learn about First Aid please contact us and consider attending one of our regular courses.
Next one with availability is on Friday 6th December here in Frome at the Cheese and Grain.
We would love to see you there ๐
We are looking forward to our regular First Aid course in Frome this Friday, and we have just three places left. See our page or or website to book.
We would love to see you there ๐
Although we are becoming quite booked up in November, we still have 3 places available on our course on 1st November here in Frome, see our website for details www.firstmedic.co.uk
We would love to see you ๐
Professional First Aid Training in Frome - First Medic First Medic provide a variety of professional first aid training courses in Frome, Somerset, that give you full First Aid accreditation.
We always enjoy running our First Aid courses here in Frome, but this Friday's should be especially good as two of our students are back for a refresher, so we already met them three years ago. It will be interesting to hear whether they had to use their First Aid skills in the intervening time.
Our next course after this one will be on 1st November at our usual venue, the Cheese and Grain. See our website for details and bookings; we would love to see you ๐
We had a great two days yesterday and today with First Aid courses on both days in two different venues.
Tiring days but very rewarding as our students all came with enthusiasm and from different backgrounds and levels of experience.
All did really well; it's wonderful to see people enjoying the day and learning stuff at the same time!
We believe First Aid is an immensely valuable life skill, as well as being a requirement in some places of work. We love helping people achieve this, and we are looking forward to meeting our next students in October!
A big thank you to Fair Frome for having us at their new premises yesterday to deliver another First Aid course to some of their volunteers. It was a great day, and we had some lovely comments on the feedback forms. Thank you so much Lenka for this.
Hello!
We have recently seen a significant increase in demand for our First Aid courses, and we would like to thank all our students who have recommended us!
Thank you so much! ๐๐๐
A small family business like ours requires a lot of effort, and it's lovely to see that this effort is so appreciated.
Due to this increase in demand we have now scheduled an additional Emergency First Aid at Work course day here in Frome on Friday 20th September.
Feel free to contact us here or book online directly.
We would love to see you ๐
When we think of giving first aid, we tend to think of giving it to others. However, last week I had a nasty fall and bent my ankle in a bad way, resulting in a combination of a sprain and a strain which needed treatment. I managed to limp home, and carried out the treatment that we teach about in our classes:
RICE. This stands for Rest, Ice, Compress, Elevate.
I still have a bruise covering most of my foot, but hey ho, the treatment seemed to work as it was supposed to, so I'm walking around ok โ albeit still with a slight limp for now.
We are not having any causes in August because people are generally away or out doing other things, but we are looking forward to our next course in early September.
Keep safe everyone, watch your step, don't go falling over and messing up your ankle! ๐ฏ
Hello Frome! It's nice to see some brighter weather at last, and we hope everyone is taking advantage of this.
We are sometimes asked, "which First Aid course should I take? The one-day or the three-day?"
The answer is that we cannot advise you, but what we can do is point you towards the HSE's L74 document, titled "First aid at work: Guidance on regulations".
Enter HSE L74 into a search engine, find the site, then you can download a pdf.
The document addresses all those questions, including employers' responsibilities, requirements and training for First Aiders, First Aid for the self-employed, etc.
Oh and because I love weather, you may be interested to know that these better days are due to a northerly move of the polar front and an expansion of the Azores high pressure area, with a corresponding contraction of the Icelandic Low. However, things can and do change, so let's hope it lasts a little while longer!๐
Hello Frome on this lovely sunny weekend!
We will not be running a First Aid course in August, so if you are in need of a renewal or an initial certificate before the beginning of September, we have a few places available next Friday, 5th July, and we would love to see you there! ๐
And talking of sunshine, there is a mild cold front approaching from the North West which may bring a little rain in the small hours of tomorrow morning.
Take care.
If indeed the summer has finally arrived here, or even if you're off somewhere on holiday, make sure you protect yourself against the sun โ not only against burning, but against heat exhaustion or worse than that, heat stroke.
Make sure you keep hydrated, and have a great summer, wherever you are. ๐
Another great day yesterday at the Cheese and Grain here in Frome for our First Aid course. It's always such an uplifting experience, either refreshers for qualified First Aiders, or new qualifications.
Thank you to all our students for all the lovely comments on the feedback forms, and well done on passing the course! We look forward to seeing you in another three years' time, or hopefully bump into you in town some day. ๐

Medical shock, as opposed to emotional shock, is defined as a lack of oxygen to the tissues of the body, usually caused by a fall in blood pressure or volume.
The most common causes are:
Hypovolaemic โ low blood volume (eg following a severe arterial wound)
Cardiogenic โ a problem with the heart (eg cardiac failure)
Anaphylactic โ a severe allergic reaction causing a dramatic fall in blood pressure.
Recognition and treatment are both covered in First Aid courses.
First thing in the morning walking with the dog in the wild garlic woods โ nothing like it.
There are broadly speaking two different First Aid courses, both of which follow the guidelines of the HSE.
1. Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW)
2. First Aid at Work (FAW)
The EFAW is a 1-day course for people in a low risk environment, such as an office.
The FAW is a 3-day course for people in medium to high risk environments, such as construction sites or engineering workshops, etc.
Contact us for details or see the syllabus for both on our website.
Our next course is on Friday 7th June.
We would love to see you ๐
