Martin John - Acupuncturist & Herbalist Chinese Medicine for FROME, Somerset.
In line with UK law and our strong policy on ethical and sustainable practice, RCHM members do not use any animal products in their treatments regardless of traditional use.
We strongly condemn the use of any substance that endangers an animal population or subjects animals to cruel practices.
We are pleased to see that African Heads of State and Government recommend a continent-wide ban on the slaughter of donkeys for their skin.
We continue to work with charities and animal rights groups that are campaigning in this field to raise awareness of ethics and sustainability.
Patients can be reassured that their treatments will not contribute to this industry when visiting an RCHM practitioner.
Happy World Acupuncrue Day 2023!
Seeing a properly qualified acupuncturist and herbalist ensures that you are treated by a profesional who has completed a degree level training in the totality of this amazing medical system. It can't be taught in a short or weekend course so make sure you see the best.

I’m extremely honoured and proud to have been elected to serve as President of the RCHM.
A Welcome from The Register of Chinese Herbal Medicine new President, Martin John :
A bit about me:
I graduated in Chinese Herbal Medicine and Acupuncture from Southern School of Natural Therapies in Melbourne, Australia in 2010. Following relocating back to the UK I set up my practice in Frome, Somerset where I have been in practice for 13 years. I have previously sat on the RCHM Council for 7 years, being closely involved with the rebranding of the organisation which culminated in 2019.
My areas of interest in the field of Chinese Herbal Medicine are many, but I have lectured widely on the treatment of digestive diseases and how the microbiome fits into a traditional herbal medicine framework.
I was part of the Jade Screen Project and have, over the last 3 years, researched widely on the treatment of Long Covid .
I'm a keen advocate for how we can clearly communicate the power of our medicine to the lay person, and am excited to bring this enthusiasm to my new role as President of the RCHM.
I feel incredibly privileged and honoured to step into the role of President of such a dynamic professional body which continues to uphold the highest standards for the practice of Chinese Herbal Medicine in the UK.
My door is always open (unless I'm with a patient) to anyone who wants to say hi, have a chat, or who has any concerns that we as an organisation may help with.
Welcome back aboard Martin!

Long Covid and Spike Protein Damage – Element Healthcare Long Covid, also known as Post-Acute Sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection (PASC), is a condition where people experience persistent symptoms following a Covid-19 infection. Master Tung points are out of this world and since training in this system of acupuncture 8 years ago I’ve used them every day in clinic.
Flower Bone 1 for eye issues never cease to amaze.
Recent case. Builder with 20 years of stabbing eye pain following pressure releasing operation. No one has been able to help over that time. Meds don’t touch it. He broke his eye socket as a child so previous trauma was clearly a factor. He had no pain, just raised pressures before the operation.
Pain before Acu was 8-9/10 mainly worse at night.
Two treatments in and no pain at all! Nothing apart from the occasional twinge. He’s now into his second week.
He said he now has to get used to this new thing called ‘sleeping all though the night’.
His eye also waters more which means it’s releasing pressure easily.
Acupuncture truly rocks!! 🤘

Happy snow day everyone. I had to cancel clinic today due to the weather but got a lovely reminder of why I do what I do, from a patient who came in doubled over in pain (10/10) from a herniated disc and back in spasm a couple of weeks ago. Three treatments and this…..

Proud to have been involved with the Jade Screen Project
When research, Covid and UK research herbalists met: the tale of The Jade Screen Project, written by Lily Lai, PhD, MRCHM, research lead for JSP.
In 2020, a group of Chinese Herbalists assembled to offer free herbal treatment to key workers affected by the Covid 19 pandemic. 314 key workers received herbal prescriptions, and the results, as shown by collected MYMOP scores and post-project interviews, were inspiring.

This month is Endometriosis Awareness Month.
Here we share a patient's story as they sought support with endometriosis.
"As I progressed through the treatments, my symptoms improved; my pain level decreased, my blood loss decreased to a normal flow... My digestion improved to the point where I was able to reintroduce foods that had previously aggravated my symptoms. The mood swings subsided, and I was able to think more clearly."
The RCHM and its members uphold the highest standards of training and clinical practise in the United Kingdom.
Always seek the services of a fully qualified practitioner, who can be found on our website.

What Chinese medicine has said all along. Do NOT ice an injury past the initial 24hrs. It essentially hampers healing and leads to what we call Blood Stasis (think a blackened bruise). Poor blood flow restricts motion, creates pain and slows healing.
And truly so many people are advised to ice injuries by physical therapists.
Movement and heat is a far better option for speeding recovery….oh and of course acupuncture that improves blood flow and deals with the pain.
