The Nunney Players present: The Titfield Thunderbolt The Nunney Players present the original play from which the classic film was adapted. A charming comedy of community over adversity!
And last of all, our extremely talented lead, Juanita Carney! Some of you may remember her from earlier productions, and now she's back playing the highly trumped up 'Lady Edna Chesterford' in our up and coming production of the Titfield Thunderbolt.
Juanita has appeared in numerous productions over the years. Whilst working for the Metropolitan Police she joined their amateur dramatics company 'The Comets' and had great fun appearing in a number of comedies at their theatre in St James’ Park.
In 2007 she joined Frome Drama playing a variety of roles in both comic and serious drama. She has appeared in leading and minor roles in productions for the Frome Festival and also has a history with the Nunney Players, having enjoyed appearing in Pinocchio alongside her children, and separately in Visiting Hours which was entered into the County Drama Festival. Juanita also played Titania in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Oh yes and she did also play a courtier in Hamlet at The Young Vic a very, very long time ago!
A little teaser for you all. Don’t be that poor person who misses out, tickets still available.
20, 21, 22 October 2022.
And here's another fan favourite, Martin John, playing Mr Ruddock and Dan Taylor.
Coaxed out of retirement by his former villagers and various compromising photographs, Martin resumes his Nunney Players career despite his confused grasp of the Somerset accent. A veritable Tour De Farce as usual…..
And here's our Director Phillip de Glanville, who's also starring as Blakeworth, the Town Clerk and Reverend Sam Weech.
Initially hooked by school productions, Philip has flirted with amateur theatre throughout his adult life - writing occasionally, set designing and set building sometimes, and directing often, for which he has won quite a few awards over the past 30 years with Frome Drama and with his own group 'Troupers'. His proudest moment was winning the British Final in Londonderry 9 years ago, with 'A Day in the Death of Joe Egg'. He cannot resist attempting a bit of acting too, when he gets the chance!
Here's Mo Bell, our esteemed Chair of the Nunney Players comittee, who will be playing Mr Clegg the Stationmaster and 'the lovey Miss Ellen Coggett...'
Mo says:
In 15 years with Nunney Players my parts have ranged from Tabitha Twitchit, a cat, in Delicious, to a serial murderer in The Canterbury Road Tales, but never before anything quite so glamorous as 'the lovely Miss Coggett' in the Titfield Thundderbolt.
Here's another familiar face! Astrid Callomon is playing 'the lovely' Joan Weech....
Astrid discovered Nunney in 1974 whilst on a field trip investigating the shocking weather phenomenons which, resulted in the Nunney ducks floating, upstream.
Between working on refurbishing her new property, wrecked in civil war, and earning a crust extracting fine blue lias, she found a moment to assist The Nunney Players in one of their earliest productions, '2 fast 2 furious'; leaving her 5 children working behind the bar at the Theobold Arms.
After some lengthy pay negotiations, she agreed to play the part of Joan in The highly anticipated 'Titfield Thunderbolt'.
It’s the ‘get in’. A massive thanks to everyone who worked incredibly hard yesterday to set up for The Titfield Thunderbolt this coming Thursday, Friday, Saturday.
We mustn’t forget that these productions wouldn’t be possible without our team of hardworking volunteers so please do support us by purchasing a ticket..
We thank you in advance.
Introducing the newst member to the Players collective of creatives, the utterly hilarious Liz MacNeil-Stone, playing the dastardly Vernon Crump, and the charming Mr Valentine.
Having moved to Nunney during lockdown, Liz decided that joining a group would be a good way to meet people. She took the plunge and auditioned and got cast as not one, but two male characters. She’s not sure quite what this says about her acting style, but she’s delighted to have such flattering costumes to wear....
Annnnnnddddd, here's another regular in Nunney Players productions: Dan Cooper! Who's playing Harry Crump and Sergeant Wilson:
Dan has been in a number of productions as a permanent fixture of the Nunney Players over the past 10 years. He’s been many things, from a fairy to a pirate, and a lawyer to a king (as well as a cockroach of course)
We'll be introducing the LOVELY cast members of our next production, The Titfield Thunderbolt over the next few nights, let any one, or all of them tempt you to buy your tickets !
Let us begin with everyone's favourite Cathy Marsden! She'll be appearing as Mr Clegg and Mrs Bottomley.
♧♧♧♧
'Cathy was coerced onto the stage by the Nunney Players founder Sally Carney and it all started with a scream as the Imam's wife. Since then Cathy has enjoyed many other roles , including Hippolyta, Mrs Tiggywinkle and 'Bag Lady'. What does that say about her?!'
2 weeks today and those of you coming to the Saturday production of the Titfield Thunderbolt will be getting ready for departure. Tickets are quickly running out, please do support the Nunney Players and come along for the train ride of your life.
ALL ABOARD!!!
Meanwhile back stage…..
