First up with winning a very close decision against a quality opponent, a back and forth match with Kamran dominating in the later stages of the match.

Finishing up the with Aman putting on an absolute clinic in his title eliminator match. Utilising leg entanglements and wrestle ups, to find his way to the back and finishing in devastating fashion setting up his title shot on the next show!

Incredible performance by our Team at the North East Open in Middlesbrough! 🥋🏆 With 14 dedicated competitors – 11 kids and 3 adults – they showcased beautiful Jiu Jitsu, representing themselves and the academy at the highest standards. A total of 🥇x3, 🥈x5, and 🥉x4, reflecting a mix of wins and losses, but most importantly, invaluable experience gained. Proud of the team’s resilience and skill on the mats!

We’d like to introduce our new programme to 2024 schedule ‘Intro to Jiu Jitsu’ specifically tailored to brand new beginners & White belts with a primary focus on the fundamental positions, submissions & escapes.

The ‘Intro to Jiu Jitsu’ class will run on a separate curriculum to our other classes.

Although this class is only once a week, there is still the added benefit of attending the following weekly classes throughout the duration on the 6 weeks:

Monday 8pm - Fundamentals
Tuesday 6pm - Intro to Jiu Jitsu
Wednesday 8pm - Fundamentals
Thursday 6pm - Judo
Friday 7pm - Fundamentals

6 weeks training, 30 classes total, 5 classes pw all for £80. After the 6 weeks we can set you up on one of our memberships.

Are classes alone enough?

This is a topic we’ve been discussing recently in regards to whether attending classes alone with your coach are enough to see vast improvement & progression.

We’ve opened up a discussion on what we like to call the 80/20 rule! Majority of us will experience a period of plateau at some point when it comes to their progression.

The 80/20 Rule:

80% of your training should be with your instructor/coach in the structured classes provided at your academy and using that time to ask questions on said topic if a problem arises and absorb as much as possible.

20% of your training, We believe should be independent learning. This could be anywhere from learning the rules for your belt level, points systems, rule sets to studying tape & matches, watching structured instructionals, utilise open mats & drill classes to problem solve and trouble shoot situations if your academy provides it!

If you look at any other sport, be it Basketball, Football, Rugby or Boxing. Not all the training is done physically on the court, field or ring. You’ll find that majority of their time is studying tape on game plays, previous games/matches, or problem solving grey area in specific areas of game play.

Independent learning is a topic that is most often overlooked but is a key part to personal development and progression at all levels.

What’s your thoughts on the 80/20 rule and independent learning?

Shay has many accolades to his name including World, European, Pan Ams & Brazleiro Titles not to mention his is NoGi credentials & his wealth of knowledge!

The seminar will be prominently focused on his passing style & will be open to all academies!
