Yoshino Karate

So.. a little history of the club.

Yoshino Karate was originally Kan-Shu Katate club, started by Sensei’s M Ellwood and P Robson in the early 1990s.. in fact, our own Sensei JP was on of the earlier students, undertaking his first grading with the club on the 15th October 1991! If you ask, he may the photo from his licence at the time. 🤣

As time moved on, the club was handed over to the watchful gaze of Sensei D Pearson in the mid 90s, with JP achieving his shodan (1st Dan) June 97, shortly followed by Peter later that year.

Study, work and life got in the way, and JP unfortunately took a break from training, only to return in 2016, to discover that not only did Peter now hold his Sandan (3rd Dan), but had also taken over running of the club, from our chief instructor D Person.

As such, we have been operating Springwell Village Community Venue for roughly 33 years!

As an organisation, we have always operated as not for profit, with half the subs going to the Village Hall, with the remainder being used for the students, be it the purchase their first Gi, gifts at Easter, Christmas etc.

Unfortunately as such, unlike many other clubs in the area, we do not have budget for advertising, big fancy give away etc and purely operate on the basis of world of mouth and the passion our students show.

We are an ability friendly club, regardless of your ability’s, we can work together to accomdate.

Age, injuries and other ailments hit us all. However, we can all still take part in our own way.
