9 years ago today!
Who would have thought that with no business background, a few years working as a PT and about £8 in my bank, we could have opened such an amazing place in
A lot has happened, covid, floods, life support machines, and bringing CrossFit to the people!
A huge thanks to everybody who has been with us over the years! And a special shout out to our very first member who still uses the place

ITS OUR BIRTHDAY!!!!
12 years ago today, Origins was born!
And 2 years ago today (on our 10th birthday) the legend that is popped in!
As memories go, it’s not a bad one!
Happy birthday to us!
Keeping up with eating home cooked meals, today I tried out my new cast iron skillet, this made my wagyu steak turn up to 11….!!!
The searing…..the crust….the flavour!
Over the next few weeks I will be aiming to cut out pre made food, everything either cooked fresh or meal prepped by
Upping the exercise as well and soon to be jumping on .morrison.training flexibility programme to see if we can get some movement back into my shoulders, hips, back, neck and wrists!
F**k you heart failure…..your not beating me!!…….(he says nervously)
So to be honest, I fell away from eating well and exercising, the gym (CrossFit Paisley) went mental busy there, we took on a bunch of new members, I had meetings, show arounds, new classes, admin Bla Bla Bla and the first thing that gave way was fitness.
But as the ol saying goes, the diet begins on a Monday! So todays breakfast of champs was…
Poached eggs on sourdough bread with Hollandaise sauce with fresh chives……
Monday….I win!
While I quietly (and painfully) work on my injuries in the background, I have put together our new PT packages.
Competitively priced and with a bunch of wee “perks” added on, the goal is to give you every chance to succeed in your fitness journey!
Packages will include discount codes for meal prep, recipes, access to over 100 classes per month, free gym use and of course……Personal Training.
In order to deliver the best service possible, I will only be taking on THREE new clients. That’s it!
So if your interested in reserving a space, you can book a wee chat closer to the time!
Now here is a proper throwback! Almost 9 years in
I still remember when called us to ask if we would be interested in opening a gym in the park!
We pretty much jumped at the opportunity and had a lot of “learning on the job”
What a ride it’s been! And with the relaunch of the PT and bootcamp side of the business coming in January……things are just peachy right now!
With the re-launch of the personal training side of the gym approaching, we have been looking out our previous material we have to our clients!
This was our 50 page “high protein” recipe book, each meal came with ingredients list, a video on how to make it and a barcode for to log it all.
This will be getting a wee review and edit and will then be one of the many additional features you will get when training with one of our team!
Always a happy day when your order arrives! Pretty much a months worth of lean meeeeeeeet!!! Tonight we hit the burgers!
….. back to our first wee 500sqft PT studio right in the heart of Paisley!
It’s nuts to think that after only six months here we had ran out of space, we were booked from 5am to 11pm, and while that’s great at first, doing over 70 PT sessions per week, it soon runs you into the ground!
Then we were approached by and asked if we would like to open a gym in scotlands biggest business estate……how could we say no!
Fast forward ten years and they gym is packed! Running from here has given us a whole new level of commitment from our members, and with the PT side of the business about to make a come back, things are looking rather peachy 🍑 for
Back in the day, we launched our “Shred90” home workout plan, we actually had great results from it and had over 40 participants at one point, this was launched before every PT on the planet became an online trainer! I think about three weeks after we launched it, Joe Wicks hit the market and kicked the “home workout markets” Ass!
We are still proud of our 90 day plan, it helped a bunch of folks and that’s the main thing!
It’s only when you try to shift a 70kg sand bag do you realise how weak and pathetic your strength really is!
Something very satisfying about seeing your weight going down!
This is pretty much “diet controlled” drop, I haven’t been able to hit workouts fully yet so keeping calories down, protein up and adding in some steps is doing the job just now.
This will inevitably slow down soon and this is where the workouts will come in!
Slowly but surly getting there!
It’s a study day today! Currently half way through the “DAFNE” course for controlling diabetes.
The end goal of this is to be put on N insulin pump and thus control blood sugars better!
The timing of the course worked it perfectly as it is also helping with the low carb diet I’m on…… well “lower” carb diet but not low carb as such!
Had a wee 1.1kg drop in weight this week, ideal as all I have done is changed some eating habits, the exercise part has still to come!
Trying to keep carbs low to keep blood sugars at a manageable level sucks monkey nuts!
But a 4 egg omelette (or a 2 egg omelet then buggered the second one so it became scrambled eggs) with ham, cheese, mushrooms and chives hit the spot!
39g protein
Only 5g of carbs!
Could have even added a wee side salad with vinaigrette and that wouldn’t have added much!
Got a wee weigh in on Monday morning, let’s see how this low carb heathy nonsense is doing!
For the first few weeks of my journey I will be concentrating on these three things.
Total daily calorie intake
Protein
Carbohydrates
Stay under your BMR (basal metabolic rate) (Your Basal Metabolic Rate is the number of calories you burn as your body performs basic (basal) life-sustaining function.
For me that’s around 2300 calories, stay under this, and I’m in a calorie deficit, if you are in a calorie deficit….you drop fat, all be it not as fast as I would like, but that’s where exercise comes into it!
Protein, keeps you fuller for longer, helps recovery, is the building blocks of muscle and tastes good ……I’m talking about you sirloin steak!
And carbs, for me specifically, it’s because I’m diabetic, so I count carbs to work out how much insulin to take on! But carbs give you energy! We love carbs!
So to recap, eat carbs in moderation, eat protein, and stay in a calorie deficit to see some wee results!
