Congratulations to Dr Brian Garvey who has received the 2023 Nevile-Plowman Prize for his article, "Cultivating space for contemporary resistance in Brazil’s Amazon and Cerrado".
The Nevile-Plowman Best Article Prize, established in 2019 by The Economic and Labour Relations Review (ELRR), honours the journal's founding editors, Professors John Nevile and David Plowman. The prize - shared with co-authors Maria Luisa Mendonça, Maurício Torres, Daniela Stefano, and Fábio Pitta - recognises outstanding articles in economics and industrial relations, judged on rigorous research, clear communication, and significant scholarly or policy impact.
The article examines the ways in which land-grabbing in Brazil at the frontiers of the Amazon is facilitated by both the state and the practices of financialisation.
The paper was praised for "the innovative use of theory, the robust application of data and...producing research that is highly readable and useful to raise [social justice]"
"The Hunter Centre having a more encompassing focus has happened naturally over a period of years so the name change is not an overnight decision; it’s more that we needed to reflect the changes in scope and focus for the department over many years while crucially – and this is really important – still staying true to its original founding principles."
The Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship has been renamed the Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship, Strategy and Innovation. In today's blog, new head of department Professor Niall MacKenzie reveals the reason for the change and his plans for the future with the Sir Tom Hunter name remaining firmly at the centre.

Congratulations to Dr Anna Spadavecchia, Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship, Strategy and Innovation, whose paper has been awarded the ‘Best International Paper’ prize in the Management History Division at the Academy of Management Meeting, Chicago.

The paper is based on research conducted during Anna’s visiting period at Harvard Business School as ‘Alfred D. Chandler Jr. International Visiting Scholar in Business History Program’ for which she received a British Academy – Leverhulme Trust grant.
Congratulations to Professor Andy Marshall who has been appointed as Strathclyde Business School's new Vice-Dean (Global Engagement) and will be leading the business school's Global Engagement Strategy.
Executive Dean of Strathclyde Business School, Professor David Hillier, said, "I'm delighted to welcome Andy to his new role. His leadership will be crucial as we continue to build our global presence and create exciting international opportunities for our students and staff."
