Just a quick update for Saturday’s Anniversary Murph extravaganza!
Heats are now available to book on “goteamup”. Please get booked in for a time if you plan on coming down to complete Murph on the day. There are 12 spaces available running every 10 minutes starting from 9:30am.
There will be plenty of options given for completing Murph on the day so there will be something to suit everyone.
Please ask a coach if you are unsure of how to complete the workout or if you are unsure which scaling option would be best for you.
Post WOD, we will be putting some food out (provided by our friends at Bica café in the Village). Whether you are planning to do Murph or not, we’d still love to see you come down for a visit at some point during the morning/early afternoon. Please feel free to bring your friends and family as there will be toys for the kids (maybe even a bouncy castle!).
We would also encourage any old members to come down and say hi on the day. Don’t worry Murph will all be done by about 11:30am – 12pm.
A few members have expressed interest in bringing some home baking on the day and we absolutely welcome that on our birthday 😉

Battle Cancer Monday night takeover!
The guys from Battle cancer will be taking two WODs on Monday evening (6pm and 7pm) to help raise awareness for their upcoming Scottish event in the summer.
The workouts will be in teams and a tonne of fun! We would love for as many of you as possible to get booked in for the workouts and it’s all for a great cause.
Please note the WOD times have changed to accommodate this event!
This Saturday is our monthly Team WOD and we are buzzing for it!

Feeling a bit run down recently? Resident nutritionist has 5 top tips to help you beat the winter bugs!
1) Eat your 5+ a Day
Eating a variety of vegetables and fruit each day is an easy action you can take to help ensure you're getting the vitamins and minerals that your body needs to function at its best! Aim for at least 5 servings each day to support a healthy immune system.
2) Get Enough Sleep
You've probably heard a thousand different reasons by now on why you should be prioritising your sleep. Chronic lack of sleep can increase things such as inflammation, blood pressure, stress hormones, weight gain, heart disease and you guessed it, your immune system's ability to fight and ward off illness.
If you seem to catch every cold and flu that's going around, your bedtime could be to blame.
3) Get a daily dose of Vitamin D
It's no surprise in the UK that during the winter months, we struggle to get enough Vitamin D from the sun alone. With Vitamin D deficiency being linked to a lowered immune system (as well as other health complications), it's worth making sure you're including other sources in your diet. While we can get Vitamin D from food sources such as oily fish, red meat and egg yolks, many find it beneficial to use a vitamin D supplement during the darker months.
4) Stay Active
Whether you get in for your classes at BaseFitness 3 days a week or get out daily to walk your dog, staying active can help boost your immune system and help you fight off infections. As a bonus, it'll double up with point 5 by helping to reduce stress levels - win win!
5) Relax and Recover
If you need another excuse to book that massage you've been after, here it is. Chronic Stress has been linked to a lowering of the body's resistance to colds and infections. So next time you feel your stress levels rising, practice some deep breathing for 5 minutes, or plan a nice warm bubble bath to relax in.
By taking some time to ensure you're looking after yourself in these 5 areas, you can give yourself the best chance for warding off the bugs this winter! Oh, and wash your hands!

Barbell
**Exciting News**
We still have a few spaces left for our famous Barbell club that is kicking of this Wednesday at 8pm! The club will run for 6 weeks with each session lasting 1 hour and 15 minutes.
Coach Ken is back and is as excited as ever to get our specialist Barbell class back in action. Not only is Ken a former Commonwealth games athlete himself, he also coached Jodey Hughes to the Commonwealth games in 2018 (and they aren’t finished yet!). He's the man with all the knowledge and if you haven’t taken part in the class before, all existing students will attest to his easy instruction and encouraging attitude!
No experience is required and we will tailor the sessions to your current ability. You’ll get homework every week to maximize your progress and you’ll also receive warm-up videos for all the big lifts including Sn**ch, Clean, Jerk so that you can practice in your own time.
Did we also mention that everyone who takes part will be added to a private members page so that you can send in videos and ask questions about your technique when outside of class?
If you are wanting to improve your lifting technique, chase a new PR or just want to get a bit more practice and coaching, email [email protected] - there are only a few spaces left. You won’t regret it!
The cost for the 6 week course is £60 and all classes will take place in person at the gym. Non-members (with some oly-lifting experience) are also welcome.
