Ricefield Arts is at the forefront in the exploration of Chinese arts and culture in Scotland. We also source and supply craft materials.
We deliver cultural workshops, produce exhibitions, create events and provide support to artists of Chinese descent. Ricefield Arts was founded in December 2004 by two Chinese women, Lin Chau and Julia Hung, their aim to promote and advance education of Chinese arts and culture in Scotland. Within its first year of operation Ricefield received the Empowerment Award (2005) for its contribution to arts and culture and last year (2013) won the Community Champion Award for arts and culture.

Annie is the Founder-Director of the dance school 'Glasgow Oriental Dancing Association' based in Glasgow, Scotland, UK. As a dance artist, Annie is currently engaged in creating new choreographic work collaborating with diverse artists in UK communities. Annie aims to help develop people’s interest in and knowledge of Chinese culture and art. Annie teaches Classical Chinese dance and contemporary dance for all ages.

We hosted an appreciation event to thank all our workshop leaders for their continued support in delivering creative and inspiring arts and crafts workshops. Join Yuen Humble and learn how to make a world-famous Chinese dish: Spring rolls. She'll guide us to prepare, make your dinner along with us!
Yuen says: 'I like to eat spring rolls. I like my home made version which have vegetable and noodles in it. I've tried to re-create it at home, so I could have it in Scotland too'.
You'll need:
1 pack of Filo pastry
50g of longkou vermicelli
Handful of Bean sprouts
1 stick of celery
1 carrot
500ml of oil (for frying the spring rolls)
***The participants can eat it with any sauce. Yuen will make a Tamarind sauce to eat with the spring rolls.***
For the Tamarind sauce:
8 teaspoons of tamarind (If the product is too dry, water could be added.)
1-2 teaspoons of paprika
Small amount of chilli pepper
1-2 teaspoons of fish sauce
Tools:
a big sauce pan, sieve and a spatula
Method:
1. Cut vegetable into small stick
2. Cut the longkou vermicelli into short noodles
3. Pack the vegetables and the noodles into the filo pastry
4. Fry the spring rolls in the oil
The participants could eat spring rolls with tamarind sauce (or any sauce) and rice.
Make your own Spring rolls - please prepare before the workshop:
Per sock the longkou vermicelli in cold water to make it soft.

It’s an uncertain time for all of us so we invite you to stop, look, breathe and do some drawing!
Join in with this mindful art session where you will have the freedom and support to unwind and to get creative in a series of guided drawing activities with artist Pui Lee.
As a warm-up exercise, you will get the opportunity to practise some mark-making techniques on paper. Then for the main activity, Pui Lee will show you step-by-step how to draw a Celebes crested macaque! She will then show you how to complete your picture by either adding tone and/or colour using drawing tools.
Art is always great for relaxation, reducing stress, and, above all, it is good fun! This workshop is well suited for those not so confident with drawing aiming to point you in the right direction and getting started. You will end up with a drawing that you can continue with at your leisure if you don’t finish within the session itself.
No experience is necessary.

TREASURER WANTED
Ricefield Arts & Cultural Centre is a registered charity and social enterprise for the exploration and promotion of Chinese culture and has an excellent reputation for delivering original and inspiring creative experiences, cultural events and workshops to community groups, public institutions and arts audiences around Scotland.
We are currently looking to appoint a Treasurer to join our small Board. The Treasurer will be responsible for managing all financial matters on behalf of our organisation and will be responsible for ensuring that the organisation has robust financial processes to ensure it meets its legal and constitutional requirements. It will also be the responsibility of the Treasurer to report the financial position at the board meetings. While we encourage and welcome applicants of all backgrounds, we are keen to hear from candidates who have experience in charity financial management or are chartered in a suitable accountancy field.
All Trustees are required to attend monthly board meetings, either at our office located in the heart of Glasgow city centre or via Zoom. In addition, we ask Trustees to attend our annual board development day, important meetings with stakeholders and some events and projects, where possible. As Ricefield Arts is a social enterprise, the role also involves serving on our Board of Directors.
Please note that this is a voluntary role. Neither the Trustees nor Board of Directors receive any remuneration, however, travel expenses incurred in carrying out board duties will be fully reimbursed.

Our educational trip today to Whitelee Windfarm, the UK's largest onshore windfarm, and Calderglen Zoo, was a great success. Our volunteers had a fruitful day learning how wind power is used to generate electricity for many households, and get to know more about wildlife and some critically endangered species, such as the Egyptian tortoise and the Scottish wildcat.

Workshop Description:
Taiji Quan (Tai Chi Chuan) is a centuries-old practice that gently exercises the body, mind, and energy flow. It is renowned for promoting health, longevity, mental clarity, and spiritual development. In this in-person workshop, participants will learn a series of slow, gentle movements designed to relax the body and enhance mental concentration.
Whether you're new to Tai Chi or looking to deepen your practice, this workshop offers a peaceful environment to explore its benefits.
What Participants Need to Prepare:
Loose, comfortable clothing for easy movement.
Take a light snack (optional).
Important: Have your meal at least one hour before the workshop. It is advisable to wait 30 minutes to an hour after eating a light meal before practising Tai Chi.
Target Participants:
This workshop is suitable for both adults and children aged 10 and above, depending on their ability to concentrate during the session. Please note that the slow and deliberate movements of Tai Chi require focus, making this activity unsuitable for very young children.

Hello from Ricefield Arts
Ricefield Arts & Cultural Centre leads the exploration and promotion of Chinese arts and culture in Scotland by delivering arts and crafts workshops, organising cultural events, producing exhibitions, and creating various arts development and community engagement projects.
We are excited to work with a range of partners, in Glasgow and beyond, to engage Scottish communities in cross-cultural exchange through art activity. We are led by a team of voluntary board members, a small team of staff and an extended family of enthusiastic volunteers from diverse backgrounds.
Ricefield Arts & Cultural Centre is a registered charity and social enterprise based in Glasgow city centre. It was founded in December 2004 by Lin Chau and Julia Hung.
